2021-04-17: Pirates (Cahill) at Brewers (Anderson) [Brewers win, 7-1 -- Offense explodes early; Anderson goes 7.0 IP allowing 0 ER while scattering 6 H & 1 BB]

Eye Black
Come on Urias......

People like to hype up his defense like it is some positive, but really, at SS it isn’t anything special. Not saying it is bad, but it isn’t going to help him keep a roster spot if his bat doesn’t work. He needs a plus bat to be valuable.

Whenever the IGT is at 4-5 pages, I know it’s been a good night for the Brewers.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Anderson really is like the perfect #5 for this team with the defense we have. Not that said defense has helped him out much tonight.

Hmm Counsell letting Anderson pitch out of 1st and 2nd 0 outs. Anderson 7ip 1 R.

Houser 4 1/3 1R 73pitches record for starters of 5IP giving up 1R or less in progress? Pulls him. This could be 10 Straight performances.

My counter to that would be two things:

1) I would hope Counsell couldn't care less about some record of an arbitrary 5 innings and 1 run from a starter.

2) Houser simply isn't Anderson. Brett threw over 175 innings in his last full season and is accustomed to a full season workload. Houser barely cleared 111 in his longest season.

I know there's a perception that Houser has been dealing this season, but in reality he's the same guy he's been as a starter. FIP is over 5 and he's sitting on a career high WHIP. Strikeouts are down, walks are up. Results will catch up with him sooner or later if he doesn't improve.

Suter was a reasonable choice in the 5th yesterday given the situation and options. Just didn't get it done.

One of the biggest knocks on Houser has been the need to develop his arsenal to become adequate against left-handed hitters. He has a career .855 OPS against LHHs (411 plate appearances) compared to just a .648 OPS for his career against RHHs (423 plate appearances). This season however, he’s gotten hit hard by right-handed hitters (.858 OPS against). It’s obviously a small sample (just 14.1 IP), but if he does indeed take a step backwards against RHHs then he likely won’t be sustainable in a starters role.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Didn't get to watch this one but holy cow, three throwing errors for noodle arm at SS? How is that even possible in one game?

One thing I’m fairly certain of at this point is you and I have very different definitions of the term “noodle arm”.

I didn't watch it, were they all over throws like Baez the other day? Or what I would imagine, three shorthops that Huira couldn't handle?

No shorthops. I think a taller first baseman may have been able to save one of them, but Urias just seemed to think about them too much... double pump and zoom, they were gone

They were all over-throws. One was off the mark to the left of 1B and high. None of them touched the dirt, just needed to be more accurate.
