It seems like Trevor Cahill has been around forever (made his major league debut in April of 2009), but he just turned 33-years old in March. He had a solid season for the Giants last year, beginning the season in the rotation and moving to the bullpen after six starts. Between last year and this season he hasn’t gone deep into games. Last year his season high for pitches was 88 (5.1 IP), but his second highest was 68 pitches. This year he’s gone a bit deeper at 73 pitches (4.0 IP) and 82 pitches (5.0 IP) in his first two starts for the Pirates.

Here’s hoping the Brewers offense can get some quality at bats that drive up the pitch count early.

Regarding the bullpen, the Brewers relievers have now allowed 39 hits, 25 walks, 7 hit batters, 28 runs (25 earned) while striking out 48 in 46.1 innings pitched. In terms of bullpen ERA (4.86) they rank 6th worst, but only one NL team has been worse (Rockies). If you’re looking for a silver lining the total number of hits allowed actually isn’t that terrible, it’s really been the walks and HBPs that need to improve the most.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

That contract is going to be something, isn’t it?

In case you thought the home plate ump was worse than usual last night rest assured you weren’t just imagining it. This is one of the worst Ump Scorecards of the year so far (missed a ton of pitches at the bottom of the zone)...

Unfortunately Christian Yelich is once again absent from the lineup.

Awesome roster efficiency, Brewers. :rolleyes

Also, Craig Counsell sure does love himself some Jace Peterson. I figured Robertson would be getting much more playing time with Wong out, but seems that Peterson is the #1 option there.

More Jace Peterson?

Sick of this show already.

CC can't stop himeslf.

Every year he has a guy that he just has to play no matter what.

Peterson is the 2021 version I guess.

I’d take Arcia back if it meant no more Jace Peterson.

Someone like Brad Miller, who is not a fantastic player but can hit (103 career OPS+), and is versatile, got 3.5M in this market for 2021.

Why don't we fill out our bench with players like that? Why does it always need to be someone named Scrappy Nostick in the lineup every day every time we have injuries?

To be fair, they took that approach last year with guys like Sogard, and it was pretty much a failure.

I mean, sort of, but some of those guys were signed even to start. And Miller is a far better hitter than Sogard ever has been.

Sometimes I think Counsell plays these guys over and over again hoping that one will someday break his record for consecutive hitless ABs.
