2021-04-16: Pirates (Brubaker) at Brewers (Houser) [Brewers lose, 6-1 -- Bullpen struggles continue]

Eye Black
The thing with Taylor is baffling. Brewers keep signing outfielders and he seems like he's ready to hit. I don't get it at all. Throw in giving away Grisham and they just don't seem to trust young guys.

Yup, the Bradley signing was 100% unnecessary

I've said for a long time, Taylor needs a chance to play, this was the perfect season for that.

Shaw's had a couple of chances and left 5 on base

I mean he hit a ball 108-mph right up the middle. I’m not sure he really let anyone down on that contact.

BTW, that was the second hardest hit ball of the game (for either team) behind only Tyrone Taylor (109.3-mph).

Yeah, he smoked that. I barely saw it. Might've ricocheted into the dugout had it hit Brubaker's foot.

I feel like this Pirates team is just a Tyler Glasnow, Jameson Taillon, and Joe Musgrove away from competing for the division this year. At the very least they’d be better than the Cubs.

Don’t really understand the stolen base attempt when down three runs.

Just stupid.

That Glasnow/Meadows trade has to be the dumbest trade of the decade. At least a very worthy candidate for the honor. I know the Tatis trade in hindsight is awful but I'd still vote for the Glasnow trade.

For sure, the Pirates-Rays trade looked awful for the Bucs the day it was made. I still give the Brewers a lot of credit for making it happen, if the Pirates hadn’t just completed the 5-game sweep against the Brewers to build a [long shot] playoff chance I don’t think there’s anyway they make that trade.

If you go back and look at the reaction to the Tatis/Shields trade it was actually pretty positive for the White Sox at the time.

Look, I love Suter, and I know he's got numbers that say he can handle high leverage innings, but let's be honest about who he is. Suter is a great option to have as a long man/swing man/6th starter. Reminds me a lot of what the Cubs had with Mike Montgomery.

But Suter is a guy who relies on deception and being the smartest guy in the matchup. He is never going to be the most talented guy in the matchup.

That is not someone you want to rely on for high leverage innings.

The reality is that this pen is just not as good and deep as people thought in spring, especially if Williams has pitched himself out of a high leverage role. Unless they get career years out of guys like Perdomo or Boxberger or Feyereisen or get immediate big help from a guy like Ashby, this pen needs help. They would be wise to pursue a rental or two at the deadline.

Imagine having spent roughly the same amount of money as they spent on Bradley on picking up Brad Hand off waivers and tendering Knebel.

I like that roster a lot better. And I think that's the best bullpen in baseball.
