Justice League Snyder Cut (SPOILERS)

paul253

I just had to start a thread on this because I just finished the movie on HBO max and it was fantastic. It clearly set up a sequel with a larger storyline and even introduced Martian Manhunter! If only the DC extended universe and whoever is in charge would admit their wrongs and move on from here.

Cyborgs story was much clearer, though given what’s going on with Ray Fischer I highly doubt he’d be welcomed back. But a cyborg movie with a new star? Why the hell not?

Aquaman and Wonder Woman seem to be doing fine in their spin off movies and there is a Flash movie coming out I believe. Seriously just figure out what the heck they are doing with Batman, bring Henry Cavill back as Superman and make a Justice League sequel based on the Snyder Cut.

This release has given WB and opportunity to get this back on track.

Funny, I watched it today as well, and finished it probably around the exact same time. Huge improvement over the first one, which was so bad I couldn't finish. This one was better and exciting, but still some oof. The entire epilogue was WAY too long and fell into Snyder's old bad habit of trying to cram too much into too short of a space, which apparently is still possible in a 4-hour movie.

I thought Martian Manhunter was really clumsily done, personally. Just awkwardly forced into the story. Gal Gadot really can't act. If the first movie didn't exist, I think this would have spun off the universe nicely, but they are moving on from this regardless. It's a shame what could have been but at least WB has shown they can make a passable film. I'd give it a solid 4/5 for the genre. It was a lot more fun. Still some misses on Batman's character but it was enjoyable.

Snyder's cut was ok. Better than the original monstrosity, but that was a pretty low bar to clear. My biggest gripe is is seems like Snyder forgot he was directing a comic book movie. A lot of that flick took itself WAY too seriously. I could certainly do without the Whedon-isms, but a movie based on pop culture superheroes should be way more fun in my opinion. A huge part of the charm of the old Chris Reeve Superman flicks was the humanity Reeve and humor Reeve naturally added to the role. That is missing with the Justice League actors, other than a little bit with Jason Momoa and Ezra Miller.

One thing that annoys me with almost all of the DC films is the color filter they use on almost ALL of their shots. I understand that so much of it is shot with a green / blue screen background, but it simply doesn't look good to me.

I like how they also gave Flash some value. In the first movie, he was simply comic relief and didn't add too much. They went deeper with each character that didn't have a major motion picture up to that point.

I think they had to put in a lot of extra stuff in the epiloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong... Marvel had around 15movies to set things up where they could really go forth with the Infinity Saga. DC needed to do something. They needed continuity and they finally have a foundation to stand on.

Chronologically, a lot of the events of the movie make a bit more sense now, and there's a lot of small loose end plot threads that kind of don't just hang in the breeze. I have never had a problem with the Snyder slo-mo action scenes, so that didn't bother me. I enjoyed the fleshing out of the backstories of the characters a bit more, if maybe the exposition was a bit drawn out at times. I think it could have been closer to 3 hours than 4 hours and still gotten as much out of it as we did.
