[sarcasm]So sorry it didn’t work out for the Hauser brothers.[/sarcasm] :devil
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Big Ten = overrated.

I feel like we could say this most years.

Which years? It looks like the Big Ten does a pretty good job overall representing themselves in this tournament.

RE: The B1G. The tournament is random. This was a good league whose best team ran into a bad matchup. Loyola was a Top-10 KenPom team. They're really good. More of a 4 or 5 seed than an 8, and it wouldn't be crazy to have them as a 3.

MSU lost a toss-up game to a hot team. MD, Rutgers, and Wisconsin all beat major conference foes.

The Pac-12 has been great in the tournament, but none of those teams are that good. Colorado blitzed a bad team. Oregon State beat a mediocre, inconsistent team that's been bad lately. UCLA beat a team with less overall talent and athleticism and won a coin flip in OT.

OSU and Purdue played bad, and it hurt them. It's matchups and luck if you ask me.

Was the Big Ten overrated? Yah, probably. I find when your conference is touted as “The Best” all season long it tends to lead to generous seeding for the conference and unreasonable expectations.. I also think having no real terrible teams in your conference aids to overrating some teams.

Upsets happen and the more high seeds you send the more opportunity to come up short. I do find the Big Ten usually performs well in the tourney, this year not as much. Though still time for the remaining teams to go really deep and make everyone forget how the rest of the Big Ten played.

This chart is 9 years old, so it's really dated. One thing that has not changed in that span though is the number of championships brought home by the B10.

The B10 most years is deep but not very top heavy. They produce a lot of good but not great teams which usually gets them pretty good representation in the tournament and even sweet 16 but few championship runs.

I mean, they have pretty good representation in the final four over the years too. Just scanning it over and there aren’t too many years without a team in it and there have been a couple seasons with two teams. I just don’t get the overrated talk. The Big Ten produces good basketball teams. They usually don’t got the ways of the one and done type player either. So that also may be why you don’t see as many champions. But to say overrated is not correct in my opinion.

Oral Bob again!
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Yeah I don't think it's a case of the Big ten being overrated so much as it's just a weird year with a weird tournament. Lots of higher seeds getting knocked out.

I will be surprised right now if Gonzaga doesn't finally take it home. They have been annihilating everybody they play. That being said I won't be shocked if they lose, but I think this is their year.

Watch now this is the year a double-digit seed wins the whole thing

Yeah, Baylor and Gonzaga look the part. Only takes one game, but they've been by far the best teams all year, I think, setting aside Baylor's COVID interruption.

We'll see how the Zags side of the bracket fills in. Baylor's got a tough road for all the chaos. A Nova team that's gotten on track a bit and then Arkansas, who's been excellent.

I am really hoping for Gonzaga. They've built so consistenly for 20 years, and are only missing the hardware.

Well my bracket is busted! I had Gonzaga, Illinois, Alabama, Arkansas. I had Illinois winning it all. I thought they'd have their hands full with Loyola but would out last them, being more athletic, and pull away second half. Well that didn't happen. Some awesome games this weekend.

How's everyone dealing with the new schedule, having games today?

Just want to mention an old friend has a daughter playing for FCGU. Played her final game yesterday and my first chance watching her. Looks just like her dad. Pretty neat to see someone two degrees of freedom playing in the dance on ESPN. Her grandparents and my parents are in the same retirement home, a few doors down. My dad says he will talk him up about it during group exercise today.

I still have 5/8 elite eight teams alive...so my bracket isn't a total disaster.

My daily picks:

2 Iowa over 7 Oregon

1 Gonzaga over 8 Oklahoma

14 Abilene Christian over 11 UCLA

5 Creighton over 13 Ohio

1 Michigan over 8 LSU

5 Colorado over 4 Florida State

2 Alabama over 10 Maryland

6 USC over 3 Kansas

I am guessing Abilene wins today or one of the other double digit seeds wins today (outside of UCLA, obviously).
