In order for us to get the the NFCCG, we have to beat the Rams, who I did not want to play. I was rooting for the AZ matchup, but obviously that wasn't going to happen. lol

It's not a sure thing the Packers get past the 9ers, even though most here think it's a gimme.

I'd much rather play the 9ers at Tampa for the NFCCG than go to Lambeau, but that hasn't been decided yet, and as I said earlier, the Bucs beating the Rams is going to be a tough task, even with the GOAT...

Every potential NFC matchup from here on out is great. I love it!

I feel like nobody here has said SF is a gimme. I've probably come closest to saying that of anyone here. My take is really that they should beat SF, and if they don't, they weren't all that good.

A lot of people criticized JJ Watt for saying that he wanted to play for a contender and then signing with the Cardinals. When the Cardinals were 8-2, it looked like he may have been sincere. In retrospect, is it fair to say he just took the bag?

I wouldn't go that far, he went to a team that won 10+ games so he was right that they could win. He didn't go somewhere like Detroit for a few extra mill, which is where a phrasing like you had would come in. Plus, if he and Hopkins don't get hurt AZs season could've ended much differently.

That's pretty harsh to say "in retrospect". They were 8-2, cruising along... hit some road bumps, played some tough teams, and still finished with 11 wins. They were an up and coming team with a good offense, a hot shot QB, putting together a defense that needed some pieces. They started 6-0, and looked headed somewhere. Rasul Douglas stole their Juju.

Only one team can win the super bowl.

I guess it depends on his definition of a contender. If by contender, he meant ‘10+ win team from prior season who offers the most money,’ then I guess the Cardinals fit that bill. But when I think of ‘contender,’ my head goes to the Bucs, Bills, Chiefs, and Packers.

Where is this 10+ team coming from? Arizona was 8-8.

I think it was a little of both. He didn't want to play for a doormat but he wasn't going to play somewhere for $2 million. I think there were legit reasons to see AZ as an upcoming team. And the offer he got was better than what most expected, so...I think his reasons were justified.

I used it because they won 11 games this year, thus 10+. I wasn't referring to the year before.

As someone said, only one team can win once in the playoffs. They won 11 games without him and Hopkins for the second half of the year. Flip our game with them on that crazy play and Hopkins is healthy the talking points on AZ could be drastically different right now. He didn't go to a crap team, he was thinking that AZ was gonna be good this year and they were good. So to me it wasn't just taking the most money like if he'd picked a Det/Bears/Giants etc type team so I thought the phrasing went too far.

Sorry, I read the 10-win # too quickly.

So an 8-8 team? In the league’s toughest division? And he was going to win the Super Bowl? C’mon. He had $23 million guaranteed reasons to choose the Cardinals (and who can blame him?). At the end of the day, he was just being a company man by saying he liked the Cards’ chances.

I’m probably just a bitter Packer fan who had a sliver of hope he’d sign a team-friendly deal in Green Bay. :)

I believe counting the playoff loss to the Rams, the Cardinals were 3-7 without Hopkins in the lineup most of a game (I included their Packer loss when Hopkins did play early but had to drop out with a hamstring). They were 8-0 with him healthy enough to start and play most of the game.

Murray is a good young quarterback - but he isn't great and needs elite talent at WR to make his current skillset really shine. What made AZ's offense dynamic early in the season was Hopkins on the field forcing defenses to dedicate multiple defenders to him in coverage and open up the rest of the field for those read option/RPO quick hitters that put Murray back in college football mode with easy reads and everything being keyed of the threat of him running. Whenever Hopkins would get single coverage it was almost an auto throw his way. Without a stud WR demanding double coverage most of the time, the field wasn't as open for AZ to run the basketball on grass style offense and both the passing windows and running lanes were much smaller, and Murray struggled.

The Cardinals went 2-1 without Murray in November and McCoy made some plays - then Murray returned and wasn't the same player the rest of the season, particularly after Hopkins went down with a MCL. He's got to develop more as a drop-back passer that can read coverage and throw average receivers open from the pocket if he's ever going to take the next step to being truly elite.

Murray is severely over rated. We've seen his skillset a hundred times in the NFL, and rarely is it sustainable.

He'll flame out and just be a guy in the next couple of years.

Kingsbury's record with Pat Mahomes at Texas Tech was 13 - 19. He was 35 - 40 overall as a college coach. He might be more of the issue than Murray is.

I can't believe that the NFL feels the need to employ Mike Vick as a pre game guy for the playoff games. Is there no one else available?

I guess I shouldn't be surprised, they still act like Ray Lewis isn't a murderer or at the very least, knows who murdered someone. They also seem to be fine with putting Ben Roethlisberger on a pedestal.

Pretty disgusting.

I've thought the same on Michael Irving. Plus, besides all his issues he's just really bad at the job.

Yeah, there are probably others as well...

Why not have Antonio Brown do pregames?

Randy Moss is another one, but not on the level of Vick, Lewis, etc...

I mean, if we're being honest: we are talked to - in a public format - by corrupted and unsavory characters on a routine basis. Sure, we'd like that not to creep into our entertainment. But, I think what we've learned in the recent past: it is alllllll up and in the entertainment industries too. The NFL is a League driven by Star Power and Big personalities. These former players continue to live off their 'larger than life' personalities. The NFL absolutely loves that...even if we don't.

Yea Moss while having attitude issues really didn't have any major legal things compared to others here. I'd also add that I generally find Moss decent at the job and one of the few people I don't mind listening to if I happen to flip to it(I assume he's still on ESPN/MNF but IDK). But the real takeaway of all this is what is the need for 5-8 people blathering on multiple networks at once, generally just don't watch the stuff and I'd guess most informed sports fans on a site like this know almost as much as these jabronis and don't need someone telling them what to think. I rarely watch any of it, pretty much never on a Sunday morning. I only came across that Irving still had a job like this during either the Thanksgiving or Christmas games on NFL network so it would go to him at half or after the game. Couldn't believe he was still being paid to this. Would've thought the live broadcast coke bender on ESPN for a Miami game 3-4 years would have been it, but nope.

One of my repeated questions I find myself asking these recent weeks of NFL games is:

How inconsequential is Rex Ryan or his opinions and how in the heck was he given so many opportunities as a Coach? Goodness, what a blathering bag of air.

Derrick Henry is playing today. Love to see it.

I’m not exactly a fan of his, but reaching two AFC title games with Mark Sanchez as your QB is about as impressive a resume opener as you can get.
