I wonder though about how much better a play from the 30(if Dak slides earlier and gets it spiked) is than 2 plays from the 40, it’s still sort of a Hail Mary from there as niners will put everyone back in the end zone. It maybe depends on your players and what they are good at, maybe MM had another hook and ladder play in mind or something else short of the end zone.

Sounds like MM will be back but of course Jones may be taking some time on it and everyone is going to say absolutely be back until he isn’t.

Curious to know what kind of odds you get for 2 shots from the 40 vs 1 from the 30.

You can have a defender cause just a slight delay and have it not be penalized.

This happened, and happens with just about every one of these kinds of plays.

Which Mike McCarthy does not apparently account for when he says "we practice this play all the time", which is kind of inexplicable for a coach who had been around as long as he does.

Practice cannot simulate all the intangibles of a situation and it kind of blows my mind that MM could possibly ignore the real in-game variables and separate them from a practice environment. I'm guessing in practice that his first team defense is running dutifully over to the line of scrimmage and isn't doing everything in their power to subtly stall.

Mayock out as GM for the Raiders.

Man, the Raiders.

No mulligans for the way they treated Reggie McKenzie. That team absolutely defied the odds and hats off to the players and the remnant staff that held it all together. Mayock, tho, it seemed he was good for a handful of head scratchers every draft. I distinctly remember the Ruggs pick and how much I disliked it at the time. Prior that, the Ferrell pick (Clemson DE) in the top end of Rd. 1. Just reallly reallly bad form for a man in that position.

That td feels like one of those plays that the replay should have fixed without needing a challenge.
Remember what Yoda said:

AZ has really gone down the tubes since Rasul stole their souls.

I've been an AZ skeptic and viewed them basically like Dallas most of the season. Good enough to be a playoff team but once there was nobody to beat up on I didn't think they'd be all that good. I don't get the Murray hype at all. Just continually unimpressive every time I watch him play. As soon as he actually has to make a difficult throw he just looks like any other bum.

I'm going to go 6-0 this weekend which is crazy...wish I'd put something down.

TB/LAR should be a really good game.

Point taken about Murray. That's as bad as it gets.

Kliff knows there is no game next week if they lose, right?

Anyone else opt for the Manning commentary tonight? I don’t understand why they have to show them. I’d prefer heard and not seen.

I watch them. I think it's much better than listening to the regular crew on ESPN. Is there a less dynamic announcing crew than Levy, Griese and Riddick?

To be fair...Ruggs looked well on his to becoming a star before the whole thing went down.

Huh???

He was looking mediocre at best, a one trick deep threat. Before he killed a girl driving drunk the following players would have jumped over him in a re-draft: Jefferson, Lamb, Jeudy, Aiyuk, Higgins, Claypool, and Pittman. It was considered a reach at the time for him to be the first WR off the board and that was cemented in stone prior to his exit from the league.

Disagree. He had a meh rookie year (which isn't really that uncommon for WRs) and was putting together a nice Y2 campaign. He would have probably been an 1,100ish yard WR at 22 with better numbers than a few guys on your list. It's normal for WRs to take some time. Calling him "mediocre at best" a handful of games into his second season is more than a bit disingenuous. It's fine to call him a reach when drafted but he was starting to look productive this season.

I don't think judging players based on where they are picked in their position group is too fair. Most picked first don't end up the best in their group.

It is easy to see why Mayock and Gruden were enamored with Ruggs. When you see what Tyreek Hill has turned into for the Chiefs, you could see a lot of very similar traits, like the speed, quickness, elusiveness and overall explosiveness. There was some perceived untapped upside there, along with some teams who downgraded both due to off-field concerns and maturity. Hill has managed to put most of that past him and become one of the most dangerous weapons in the NFL, even though he's still a scumball and screwball at times.

Unfortunately Ruggs amplified Hill's scumball and screwball behavior multiple times over and it cost someone their life, and Ruggs his career.
