Bengals have been my AFC team for years, ever since I went to college in Cincinnati. It is hard for me to imagine that they might actually win a playoff game. I will be watching the game, waiting expectantly for the inevitable disaster. Burfict will jump out of the stands and tackle Derek Carr, or the Raiders will sign Kimo von Oelhoffen to shred Burrow's other ACL. Something.

I hope Taylor realizes his team's strengths and commits to a pass heavy game plan. They went away from it after the bye for like four games and really struggled. Then they figured it out again against Baltimore.

They discussed Harbaugh and the Bears on NFL network for a minute this morning but the feeling there was Harbaugh would likely only be interested in the Vegas job.

Hackett mentioned for Denver job

LV would be making a huge mistake not just giving the job to Rich Bisaccia in my opinion. He has earned it and if there was a team that should have folded this season, it was them.

From what I have read and seen is that the Bears are the #1 option for Harbaugh, but he has let other teams know he would be interested in returning to the NFL. I am not sure Harbaugh's style would go over all that well with the Bears ownership.

Yeah, that's the heart of what I alluded to before- Harbaugh's 'scorched earth' personality style may not sit well with the strong-willed McCaskeys or the Chicago media. The other issue with a QB/offense guy like Harbaugh is that he may not want to be pigeonholed into taking on someone else's guy in Fields vs. choosing his own QB. Pace managed to stick two Bears HC's with a QB- Nagy with Trubisky and Nagy's eventual replacement with Fields. A new coach would have to be someone ok with the thought that their own success and/or eventual job loss is dependent more on Fields than anything else, and that doesn't strike me as a match with Harbaugh's personality.

I think the Bears job makes a lot of sense for Harbaugh due to his history in the organization and the prestige of the job, but I'm not sure it's a good match based on the situation the Bears' roster is currently in or Harbaugh's personality.

Looks like the Giants are losing a GM but keeping a coach. What a dysfunctional dumpster fire of an organization. Chalk up at least one victory for Green Bay next year.

The only time the Bears actually won a Super Bowl, their head coach's personality style didn't sit well with those groups either...just saying.

For all I care they can continue to evaluate coaching options based on how well they relate to an incoherent family ownership or a local media full of doofuses - that's their perogative and it probably continues to benefit the Packers. I think Harbaugh would be a great fit in Chicago because he knows how things work in that town based on his playing days there and he's got the bonafides to put together a really good coaching staff. And yes, Fields is their QB now, but there's nothing about that roster as is currently constructed to prevent the new GM/coach combo from trading Fields for extra draft capital if they want to work with "their guy" from jump street, too.

I think it was discussed when the 'tag' story was leaked by someone, but the only real way a tag makes sense is if they make it to the point where they've destroyed the roster and gone into a cap-fueled mini-rebuild and they do a tag and trade. That seems to be the only plausible scenario where he's tagged.

Thanks, that is what I kind of figured, but I wasn't sure if there were rules pertaining to tagging someone and then trading him.

Though true, it was a different McCaskey in charge back then. George seems to have a very short amount of patience.

Well, at least if Rodgers is gonna be traded, this is sure the perfect offseason for it. The draft doesn't have big stars and there are sure a lot of good teams that could use a QB to get them over the top.

Far as I can tell, team CEO and President Ted Phillips is still somehow employed by the McCaskey's - given George's ineptitude at front office hirings and the fact he's likely in charge of the next GM/Coach hires since Phillips is not a football guy by any stretch, I'm certain they'll do a bad job once again.

I think the Bears have Hackett, Day and Caldwell at the top of their list along with McDaniels and Marcus Brady. I think Jerry Gray is another possibility and a long shot would be Pat Fitzgerald.

Sounds like the Bears are using old school dinosaurs to consult on the hirings.

edit: The presser was an absolute nightmare and I love it. :laughing

It's fun that Wisconsin sports fans can enjoy a period in time where, for the most part, the owners/team presidents of our clubs seem to have a good handle on things. It sure wasn't always this way. It lets us really enjoy the schadenfreude watching our rivals struggle.

Really makes you wonder what McCaskey skeleton burial locations Ted Phillips knows about - how is he still involved in any sort of football operations decision-making with that team?

Also affirms my appreciation for the Packers not having a team "owner" or family ownership group - while sometimes it's nice to have a solid owner who has some accountability and move forward with big decisions knowing the buck stops with them, there are just as many situations in the NFL where heritage team ownership is the primary reason an organization can't get out of its own way and build a sustainable contender on the field. The Bears' organizational structure is an absolute joke because the descendants of Papa Bear Halas are buffoons when it comes to running a football team.

How has Joe Judge not been fired yet? Oh that's right, the Giants are a clown organization. Too bad our game against them next year is at home and not at MetLife. We'll be going to Tampa again next season. Would've liked the location of those two games switched around.

I think their GM retired....perhaps if there's some level of competence there one of the 1st items of business the new GM will get to do is fire Judge and be involved in hiring their own preferred coach.

Speaking of games next year, the schedule looks like this, excluding NFC North opponents:

HOME: Dallas, NY Giants, New England, NY Jets, Rams

AWAY: Philly, Washington, Miami, Buffalo, Tampa Bay

I'm not sure what the algorithm is for scheduling the 17th game but I'm guessing it's a home game against either Tennessee or Cincinnati. Maybe Kansas City.

EDIT: It is in fact Tennessee.

I'm pretty sure it's a 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2, against a rotating division from the opposite conference setup, with the NFC and AFC alternating the home field advantage.

Not sure what the rotation is though other than ours must be West followed by South so I'm sure we'll get either the North or East on the road in '23.

Two games in Florida next year. Hopefully games later in the year so they'll get more WI travellers flocking to FL sun.

No games west of Minneapolis.

It's pretty apparent that Hackett will be a head coach somewhere with all these openings and his name mentioned for a handful of them already to at least interview.

I'm hoping Gute is putting calls in to a few of the special teams coaches who have just seen their head coach canned (not MN, their ST unit sucks, too), and told them to take a nice 1.5 month vacation before heading to GB for an interview to coach special teams in 2022.

The Bears generally have had good special teams. Just saying.

I know they’re establishing a rotation for the 17th game, but I still don’t like how the Packers conveniently drew the Chiefs @ Arrowhead for the first extra game (someone in the league office had an extra TV matchup mind). And now it just happens to be the defending #1 seed? It could have been Cincinnati.
