The problem was if they had tied the Raiders were set to play KC. So I think they would have done anything in their power to not tie. While they both would have made it, the Raiders would have had a horrendous first opponent.

I dunno how much this matters as a low seed playing WC weekend. You're going into a gauntlet for a month regardless. But, yeah, I'd rather play Cincy.

I never understood this mentality unless it meant getting a home game. So yay you got to round 2 and lost? The goal is to win the whole thing and eventually, you'll have to go through the good teams.

I wish the Raiders would have not made the 1st down and maybe got 3-4 yards, San Diego calls a time out with say 32 seconds left and it's a 54 yard field goal or so. Would the Raiders kick a field goal and risk giving San Diego great field position or punt the ball away to preserve a tie.

NFC North whacking day....my goodness

I will say the firings are long overdue both in Chicago and mpls

With both the Bears and Vikings now looking at rebuilds, along with the Lions being, well, the Lions, it does make me wonder if the Packers will move heaven and earth to keep the band together for next season, regardless of what happens in this year's playoffs? Even having to make some tough cuts of some very good players to get under next year's cap, the Packers will be well positioned to maintain their stranglehold on the NFC North, should they find a way to bring Rodgers and Adams back.

For a team like the Raiders, I think winning a game and then losing is a big deal for them. The Packers, Chiefs, Bucs? Of course not. Sure, the goal is to win it all, but for teams that have little success for a long time making the postseason and winning even a single game can be huge.

Yah, you will have to face a good team eventually...but the Raiders got absolutely curb stomped by the Chiefs twice. I mean, how does that not matter? Pretty sure the Raiders and their fans would prefer to play any other team in football by a wide margin. As a low seed you just hope the higher gets knocked off before you get to them. I mean they could get to the Super Bowl and never play a #1 or #2.

Rodgers-Adams kinda feels like a both or neither situation here. Can't imagine Rodgers would respond well to him playing somewhere else.

Yep, and both understand that as well - Only way Rodgers is back is under a new contract, so his 2022 cap number is much lower and it frees up some flexibility to sign Adams longterm as well.

If Rodgers goes, then I'd imagine the play would be to also look to trade Adams, possibly after franchising him.

Spielman kind of felt like a guy that bumbled his way into a modest level of success without really earning it, and when your team seemingly perpetually disappoints, not a shock that both he and Zimmer got axed.

Similarly, Pace is the guy that REALLY needed to take a lot of the heat for the mess in Chicago and they were smart in canning him along with Nagy, who benefitted from inheriting a team on the upswing, then the duo promptly bumbled away their window and ability to reload. I guess I'm most worried about Harbaugh landing in Chicago since I'd assume there's an appeal there because of his playing days. I think the guy is a dangerous coach for them in that I think he does know what he's doing, even if his personality makes it likely his stay anywhere will be short.

Yah, there is literally no way Rodgers would stay if they got rid of Adams. I saw a report that the Packers would tag Adams, but I don't see where that makes a ton of sense. I would have to imagine for Rodgers to stay he would stick up for Adams and demand they pay the man for all he has done for them. On the flip side if you trade Rodgers why go through the trouble of tagging Adams? That sounds like a whole lot of drama.

I think it was discussed when the 'tag' story was leaked by someone, but the only real way a tag makes sense is if they make it to the point where they've destroyed the roster and gone into a cap-fueled mini-rebuild and they do a tag and trade. That seems to be the only plausible scenario where he's tagged.

Adams only gets tagged if they are planning to trade him after Rodgers leaves, and that's only to buy them more time to find the best value in trading him.

Even with a restructured Rodgers deal should he remain in Green Bay next season, the Packers won't have enough cap room to tag Adams and have him actually play under that cap number for 2022 - they'd resign him to a longterm deal that does whatever it can to push big cap hit issues a few years out.

Harbaugh in Chicago is probably the one NFL job he'd leave Michigan for - but their most important hire needs to be GM, because they are really hamstrung with limited draft picks to do a quick rebuild due to the mess Pace made. Drafting Trubisky and having him flop after spending the draft and financial capital to have a great defense a few years ago crushed their window. They are probably best served to have a scorched earth rebuild to gather as many picks as possible for 2023-2024 and hope the new GM drafts well.

Similar situation in Minnesota, although I think they have more mid term cap issues if they keep Cousins around - his 2022 cap hit at the moment is untenable (~$45M), and their roster is too thin behind it to just roll with what they have in the building.

Both the Bears and Vikings do have talent at key positions, but they don't have roster depth because of what the GM's that just got canned had to do in order to acquire that talent with free agency spending and trades.

It's pretty apparent that Hackett will be a head coach somewhere with all these openings and his name mentioned for a handful of them already to at least interview.

I'm hoping Gute is putting calls in to a few of the special teams coaches who have just seen their head coach canned (not MN, their ST unit sucks, too), and told them to take a nice 1.5 month vacation before heading to GB for an interview to coach special teams in 2022.

Bengals have been my AFC team for years, ever since I went to college in Cincinnati. It is hard for me to imagine that they might actually win a playoff game. I will be watching the game, waiting expectantly for the inevitable disaster. Burfict will jump out of the stands and tackle Derek Carr, or the Raiders will sign Kimo von Oelhoffen to shred Burrow's other ACL. Something.

They discussed Harbaugh and the Bears on NFL network for a minute this morning but the feeling there was Harbaugh would likely only be interested in the Vegas job.

Hackett mentioned for Denver job

You'd think after seeing Fields torch Michigan for 300 yards and 4 TDs he'd want to coach him ;)

Not sure why he'd want to coach LV
