the best news of this is that Urban is so toxic I can't see any major college program bring him in or obviously his NFL career is over. Never really like that guy.

NFL teams will have to think twice before bringing in the hot college coach to run their program. The success rate is basically Pete Carrol and possibly Kingsbury .

You mustn't pay much attention to college football. He'll probably sit out 2022 but he'll have a job for 2023. Scum of a feather flocks together.

Meyer has always been a known womanizer and really abrasive person. There is no way that Jacksonville's owner was unaware of this when he hired Meyer. But Meyer has always won a bunch of game in the past, so everyone just looked the other way. If the Jaguars were 9-4, everyone knows he'd still be coaching that team.

Not to defend Meyer, because I really dislike him. But Jacksonville's problems go much deeper than Meyer. They are the laughing stock of the NFL. They have won a total of 41 games over the last 10 years. Jacksonville fans, what few that are left, are likely hoping the owner can find a way to fire himself.

I understand how college football works. He did quit from OSU to focus on his health returned to the pro's and has been caught kicking his kicker. Not exactly someone I would want to send my son to play for. And if I did, no guarantee how long he would be around anyway. This was a cash grab, which I get, but it was as big of a failure as I can remember as a coaching hire in recent memory (based on his contract, expectations, etc).

Lions fans would like to have a word with you. Jacksonville was one game away from the super bowl only 4 years ago.

I checked before posting and over the last 10 years (actually 9+ as I included this season in the 10)-

Jacksonville = 41 wins, 1 playoff appearance

Browns = 51 wins, 1 playoff appearance

Jets = 55 wins, 0 playoff appearances

Lions = 62 wins, 2 playoff appearances

Not sure if there are any other teams that would sit in this group, but I don't think I missed any team that would challenge Jacksonville in terms of awfulness over the last 10 years.

If you take out the one fluke season where Jacksonville won 10 games, the record falls to 31-110 starting with the 2012 season.

They are truly the laughing stock of the NFL.

I'm not familiar with their current coaching positions, but I wonder if FL State or U-Miami would go for him to try to return to some prominence in the CFB realm. Given the issues in Jacksonville, remaining the same state might not fly, but those are two big programs historically that haven't been very good lately.

Or maybe Nebraska. :laughing

As others noted, Meyer will sit out a year (unless there's an unexpectedly good opening yet in the carousel in CFB after the bowl season) then hand-pick his situation for next season at some cushy job at a 'name' program.

ESPN today = This guy hires racists, takes advantage of young women and abuses other people.

ESPN 6 months from now = This guy looks good and would boost our ratings, let's hire him!

It's more likely he goes back to Fox....assuming he didn't kick anyone while working there.

I often wondered if Meyer realized he did not like it, but didn't want to quit so he could still get paid. *tinfoil hat

I don't think this is outlandish, at all! In fact, I told my wife this morning that this whole charade of Urban Meyer's antics this season just reeked of him trying to "George Costanza" it (i.e. trying to get fired on purpose.) The only difference is, Jacksonville didn't have a Lombardi Trophy for Meyer to chain to the bumper of his car and drag it around the parking lot.

He knew full well he'd be fired at the end of the season, so there's zero doubt he made a ton of phone calls to his agent and lawyers to find out how he could keep his contract money. Maybe they just forgot to tell him not to kick people.

History says over and over that if you've got talent but you're a total loser of a human being, it invariably blows up in the team's face. That teams rarely learn this lesson is surprising.

I saw this clip on SportsCenter shortly after he was fired where Adam Schefter commented he had heard from sources around the league that the team likely had sufficient evidence to have fired Meyer for cause. Said it will be up to the lawyers to figure things out going forward regarding his contract.

That's what I believe as well. I think Khan just wanted to do some research into if he could save himself from paying Meyer at least some of his salary. Considering Meyer is a crap human being, I hope for Khan's sake he saves a boatload of that money.

Sounds like Badger great Darrell Bevell will be interim HC.

How sad is it that Bevell is considered a Badger great? At least as quarterbacks go.

Tough crowd. He threw for almost 8,000 yards and 60 TDs, and had a career passer rating of 133.9.

Who is Marquette’s greatest QB? And no, Norte Dame players don’t count.

This isn't the insult you think it is.

Looking at all the names of players going on the covid list it feels like March 2020 again. I saw something about a new rule where vaccinated and asymptomatic players could return sooner. Not sure if I saw that right or what the details are.

The U was the first landing spot that came to mind, but I don't know their current coaching situation either.

I mean, in 1993, he lead the big 10 in td passes PER, completion %, he was 2nd in yards passing...

If you look at his stats compared to guys now who routinely throw for 7000 yards and 60 TD per year he doesn't look like much but in 1993 it was a substantially different game.

Besides what others said…brought them the Rose Bowl victory. That TD rush against UCLA remains my favorite, most iconic play in my lifetime of watching Badger Football.

Miami is off the table. They just poached Mario Cristobal from Oregon (local boy) for big money, spent big money to buy out Manny Diaz and brought over Clemson's AD. They made a big investment and I highly doubt they would throw all of that away to bring in Meyer. Now Florida State is kind of reeling and losing out on the top recruit in the nation to Jackson State is a huge black eye. Coupled with their lackluster performance on the field, they could go hail Mary coaching hire.
