Question.

If the Lions were the Packers, in that exact same situation, would you have wanted them to go for it there?

My bet is that had the Packers lost a game in that same exact scenario, this board would have blown up.

I think it was a stupid call. Get stopped, lose the game automatically. Punt it, and the Vikings at least have to be successful getting back into field goal range, then kick it to win. Anything can happen in that situation, fumbles, picks, miscues. What the Lions did, did all but guarantee the Vikings victory, unless of course, they miss a chip shot field goal.

It was a really stupid idea to go for it there, and in the end sealed the game on the spot.

I can't tell if you're serious or not.

Here is the 4th down bot break down. Other analytics will have it similar, many with a much higher WP change (edjsports has this as 18.9% positive decision).

The big take away here is that it was the right call but if you are risk averse that huge drop in WP% on failure will cause you to punt.

Missing in the Patriots discourse: The Defense. I don't understand how the D Coordinator and the Defensive players always fly under the rader...but they do. It seems to always be Belichick and Brady (I know Belichick is a defensive-minded savant)...just saying their defensive staff and players rarely ever get credit. Case and point: Last night's 4th down to end the game? That was just an incredibly savvy play in the secondary to break off the underneath route and bat down a clear TD completion. The Pats 'D' always makes those types of instinctive plays.

Anyhow, my very meaningless 2 cents.

Living in the MSP area, I fully enjoyed the nightly news-sportscast meltdown Sunday night after the Vikings lost. Fox 9's sport announcer is so comically reactive to everything the Vikings do. They win a preseason game against a bad team and he is telling people to buy SB tickets... The despair and angst this past week was rather delicious.

And yet... people still look at me incredulously for being a Packer fan.

Well, the Viqueens fans have it rough my friend. Firstly, they are Fans of, well, the Vikes. Already at a disadvantage. Then, couple that with their State’s claim to fame is their Lakes...and Wisconsin has more of those too. It’s just an uphill battle.

Agreed 100%.

They had their Super Week with the Vikes beating the Pack and the Gophers beating the Badgers. Sunday was Karma for all of that celebrating.

I think the question has been answered. Who was most responsible for the Pats dynasty, Belichick or Brady? Both.

I think the talent pool had really eroded during the last couple season in New England, to a level that seems more clear now. I don't think there's any way Brady plays for NE last year like he did for Tampa. His total lack of mobility is a liability now if he's not well protected and Tampa can still run pretty effectively when they want to.

The tales of Brady's demise seemed to be overstated and the reality was that the team was in a bit of a downturn. Sort of reminds me of Favre going to Minnesota, to an unquestionably better roster and putting up great numbers again. Maybe he's a tick down from where he was 6 years ago but still really good. And Belichick is clearly a really great coach.

Looks like the division clinch will have to wait another week.

I only tuned in for the expected Viking meltdown. Meh, back to my Entourage marathon…

Might want to check back in about 15 minutes from now just to make sure you don't miss something special in terms of a meltdown....

Edit 5 minutes later - although that 2 pt conversion debacle probably makes it too big a hill to climb now

Demaryius Thomas passed away last night at age 33, reportedly as a result of a seizure/medical condition. Between 2012-2014 he was THE receiver you wanted on your fantasy team, now 7 years later he's deceased. Life is a strange thing.....

Pat McAfee signs a $30mm/year sponsorship deal with FanDuel. The guy couldn’t get a steady gig in traditional media and now he’s making more than Tony Romo.

He seems like a genuinely good dude too. Good for him.

I don’t think he’s everybody’s cup of tea, but I agree. He likes to entertain and make people happy - so much so that he gave up a semi-lucrative career as an NFL punter to pursue comedy.

A Vikings defender knocked the ball out of Chase Claypool’s hand after the play was over. The Steelers did not have any timeouts and there were only 30 seconds left. It should have been penalized as a delay of game. Those sneaky Vikings …
