Is his situation different? I thought Cleveland, or any team that releases a player, is on the hook for his remaining contract minus anything that is paid by the new team. I thought pretty much any team would just be signing him for the prorated vet minimum?

Reports out there on the interwebs saying the Packers "lowballed" OBJ with their contract offer. Apparently LAR offered $4.25MM guaranteed plus incentives, so if that's true the Packers couldn't have offered that with their current cap situation. While not fake new, pretty lazy reporting at best, misleading at worst.

the Packers beat guys have been making fun of that report.

Guy reported it as though he believed Murphy to be the GM. Seemed completely unreliable, IMO. “Murphy lowballed in his offer.” What?

This is what I just found on it:

The #Rams gave WR Odell Beckham Jr a 1-year deal worth up to $4.25M, source said.

Details:

— $500K signing bonus

— $750K for the rest of the season

— Another $3M available in team-based incentives for how they finish the regular season and the postseason.

If those numbers are true it seems sort of lazy for the beat guys to report that the Packer couldn't have found a way to be competitive with that, don't they have a reported 5 million in cap room? I am not complaining as I am OK with what we have with MVS back just saying it seems like there would be a way to make it work if they really wanted him.

No. Packers have about $4 million in current cap room, but about $2 m in effective cap room due to incentives to be paid. They can’t use all of their. cap room as a result.

OK, over the cap says 4.6 million in effective space but I will take your word for it. But still, couldn't they just add a sure to be cut second year to get to that number? $4.25 million isn't that much in the big picture even with our cap situation next season. Also, are team performance incentives (make playoffs, win super bowl etc) LTBE?

OBJ & CLE reworked his contract before the release.

It converted part of the owed money to a bonus & reworked the remaining time on the deal (if OBJ was claimed on waivers) so OBJ would be a Free Agent after the 2021 season instead of 2022.

That rework was completed on 11/5/21 and due to NFL & NFLPA by-laws OBJ could not be placed on waivers on the same day the re-worked deal was finalized. Hence OBJ was not waived until Monday 11/8 & the 24 hour waiver claim period ended on Tuesday at 4 pm.

Looks like OBJ is taking Robert Woods's spot now.

Wow just realized what you are talking about as he tore his ACL. Puts a little more perspective on the OBJ discussion, and here I thought maybe the Rams were just trying to keep him out of Green Bay but now looks like it could have a major impact.

I get going for it on 4th down is the new NFL, and I do like it that way, but 4th and 7 within field goal range was not one of those times to try.

And the other team goes for it on 4th and 5 and 4th and 3, both in FG range, on the next two possessions and get touchdowns out of it.

Both 5 and 3 are less than 7. Olson said himself there's a fine line between being aggressive and being reckless.

So the AFC is so bad that they have to move NFC games to CBS so they can have a quality late doubleheader game?

I think they've been doing that for awhile where you'll see the occasional NFC game on CBS and the occasional AFC game on FOX.

Yeah I know but I thought it was just a random thing for noon games to balance things out. In this case they moved our game and it is the game of the week or whatever CBS calls it.
