How is that even possible for a team that only won 7 games last season with a roster full of holes? Hell, 8 of those picks were either OL, front 7 defenders, or DBs - at positions that commonly at least give a few snaps on a rotation to stay fresh or in dime coverage packages.

Spielman has to have a pile of Wilf skeletons stashed in storage unit somewhere out here...

Off the top of my head, just yesterday the Packers used:

Kylin Hill

Amari Rodgers

Stokes

TJ Slaton

Royce Newman

Josh Myers

And it's very possible that Jean-Charles and McDuffie played snaps on D.

edit: Jean-Charles was a healthy scratch. McDuffie did not play a snap on D.

How is that even possible

Exactly the first thought that popped into my head. The Vikings are weird. Their drafts have universally been praised the past two seasons, yet the team is trending significantly downward and those draftees aren't stepping in. So odd.

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/09/23/report-brett-hundley-took-majority-of-starter-reps-for-colts-on-wednesday/

With Carson Wentz hurt, Brett Hundley might start for the Colts. They would have to elevate him from the practice squad to do so.

Seems like poor roster management. What’s the point of carrying a #2 QB if you’re not going to trust him with a spot start?

I’ve always liked Brett Hundley. He gets a bad wrap in Green Bay because of his 3-6 record as a starter, but the roster around him was bad. Rodgers went 6-9-1 with essentially the same team in 2018. Look at the 2015 NFL Draft (especially the QBs). He’s outplayed his draft slot.

Brett Hundley gets a bad wrap because he was...terrible. Further proof is the fact no one else wants him to actually throw a football in a meaningful game either.

Could he be an okay back-up? I guess...he did keep the Packers in most games. Yah, his roster wasn't great, but he still wasn't good himself.

You’ll never convince me Brett Hundley is terrible (not starter material? sure). He was a 5th round pick that was eventually traded for a 6th round pick. Teams don’t give up draft picks for terrible players unless they are run by Jon Gruden.

I mean it's a 6th round pick. He is currently on the Colts' practice squad, meaning no NFL team considers him even worthy of a 53 man roster spot. The fact that he may be in line to start for the Colts is more of an indictment of the lack of any backup options that the Colts have.

Hundley is your classic journeyman backup/3rd string QB. About what would be expected of a 5th round QB.

Of the current crop of starting QBs what is the lowest draft pick of the bunch?

Who was the last good undrafted QB? Was Kurt Warner drafted?

Probably still Brady of drafted qbs. Don't know if there are any undrafted or 7th rounders starting.

Looked it up, depending if you include currently injured qbs, it's Fitz as a 7th rounder otherwise his backup, current start heinicke was undrafted.

Including Tua and Wentz, there are 21 first round current starters, fields would make it 22.

I think the current financial and practice structure of the NFL really doesn't allow for many late round QBs ever getting a shot at enough playing time to find out if they can be competent starters. Most teams at some point have to pay a decent starting QB such a large chunk of their salary cap that there's really no room for competition from undrafted or late round draftees at that position - basically if the 1st rounder handpicked by a GM flops, he's out of a job and the next GM gets to pick his guy in the next draft. And if the QB is decent, it's not like any training camp begins with a legit competition to see who enters the season as a starter.

Because of that, just about any quarterback that looks like he could be a decent NFL starter gets a 1st round grade and often their stock rockets to the top of the draft because of how important that position is for teams to be competitive. I remember Romo was a backup for several years before he got a shot as a starter, and he was awesome in preseason games and mop-up duty before being given the reins for a roster that was cap-strapped enough to warrant rolling with a cheap quarterback for awhile that was familiar in their system.

Seahawks @ Vikings this afternoon on FOX.

It’s always nice tuning in and knowing one of these teams is guaranteed to lose! I once had the same level of contempt for the Cowboys, but I like Big Mac too much to put any team he coaches on the same level as the other two (I thought it was time for the Packers to move on from MM, but he’ll always have my respect).

So ... Justin Fields doesn't look anywhere close to ready.

I’m surprised fans were so excited about him. History tells us that only 1/3 of QBs taken in the first round become true franchise QBs. I like Jordan Love, but my expectations are sufficiently tempered.

Holy crap tucker makes a 66 yard field goal to beat the lions. It bounces off the crossbar, up and over.

And I was just coming to say what an ugly last few plays for them. The wr not getting out of bounds and the play with 7 seconds left not even looking like they actually wanted to gain a few yards.

One play after the refs missed an obvious delay of game penalty on the Ravens, the Lions are just plain cursed.

That could only happen to the Lions.
