I sort of picture him like the pickup truck driving down the highway with stuff flying out of the back of it. Lorenzo appears to have hit the age where stuff just breaks and falls off when he moves.

Hopefully he can get healthy and contribute on the field instead of just as a clubhouse leader.

Having Bradley makes this 10x easier.

But I miss Lo in the lineup already. Makes it feel way more like 2020 the past few days.

Exactly why they went out and got a veteran 4th OFer who has historically given fairly competent offense+defense.

Looks like they need to add a 5th to cover for Yelich’s recurring injury issues.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

McKinney has looked the part so far, albeit in an extremely small sample. He's done enough, though, to warrant a longer look I think.

I wonder if he will consider retirement after this year if he has a lot of injuries. It seems like a possibility after opting out last year.
I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

I really hope he's ready to go tomorrow. Painful to see JBJ in the everyday lineup. I know he's a streaky player, and at some point he'll probably have a good run too, but at this point I'm just hoping he plays well enough to opt out, not expecting anything more. Players like him with zero plate discipline who swing at everything (Like an OF version of Baez) will always be frustratingly inconsistent I suppose.

That isn’t an accurate description of JBJ or comparison either.

Bradley’s career walk % is 9.2 and Baez is 4.6. Now Bradley has been terrible this year (2%) but his next lowest for his career is 7.3%, whereas Baez’s career high is 6.3% (in only 229 AB’s). ML average is 8.2%.

It's a reasonable comparison this year, even if their career numbers are very different. Normally I'm very much a small sample size sceptic, but there's a caveat here. Walk/strikeout rates stabilize a lot faster than any batted ball statistics, so I'm not really bothered by his HR rate or BABIP; it's way too small a sample for that. But he's walking less and striking out more than in the past, because his plate discipline is worse than the past; swinging at more balls and fewer strikes, and making less contact (Swinging strike rate this year is up 5%, and is now at Baez career levels). He's still a bit more patient than Baez so no, it's not a perfect comp, but the swing and miss is real. It's also not something that's going to get better just by doing more of the same and counting on the randomness inherent in thet game to do its thing; he needs to drastically improve on his swing/take decisions for there to be any change. Which he might do, but I'd like him to not be in the everyday lineup while he works on that.

He's probably going to be, because they're paying him a good amount of money, his history shows that even as a pedestrian offensive performer he will usually hit for a little bit of power, and play good defense. Unlike last year when they dumped Brock Holt after 30 at bats, they're probably not gonna give up on JBJ after 30 games. At least I'd hope not.

It may be a reasonable comparison over 92 ABs this year but you called JBJ a player with zero plate discipline (without any indication you were just talking about this year) and that just isn’t accurate based on his career. That is all I was objecting to in your post.

Agreed that he needs to make adjustments so he can, hopefully, revert closer to his career norms.
