Brewers sign Jackie Bradley Jr. (2-year/$24M with player option after first year.)

Well, this is an upgrade over McKinney or Fischer on the roster for sure. That just seems like a lot of money for our 4th starting OF. I would have preferred a guy like LaStella instead as he would make a greater impact on the lineup (replacing Shaw or Urias against righties is a better than replacing Cain or Garcia).

I see no need for McKinney or Fischer now so one of the two will likely be cleared to make room for Bradley. Not sure how Taylor makes OD now either. I am really pulling for him as he could be a good bench bat.

Taylor has an option so I'm sure he's ticketed now for AAA until an injury happens. Fisher & Mckinney are most likely going to be DFA'd as both are out of options

I really like this signing. Our defense has to be the best in the league now. Every night we'll have one of Garcia, Cain, & JBJ ready to pinch hit. It'll allow plenty of rest for our outfielders. We all know Counsell loves to play his fourth outfielder a ton so I'm sure there are plenty of ABs to go around

JBJ will not be our 4th outfielder. He will be the everyday CF. Now, having Cain or Avi as our 4th outfielder is indeed a lot of money for that role. I’m assuming that either Cain or Avi are on the trade block. I would not be surprised if that is e next move. We have several other 4th OF options available that are serviceable.

Poor Tyrone Taylor.

I do like the idea of the Brewers strengthening their defense further. As mentioned in a different thread recently, the Brewers had the second most defensive runs saved in baseball in 2018 which was obviously part of them outperforming expectations. They should be among the best in baseball in defensive runs saved again this season.

These Stearns comments via Will Sammon suggest the run prevention strategy is on their mind:

Recently, David Stearns had mentioned on what sounded like every interview how the start of spring training didn't mean the Brewers were done adding.

He also talked about how their defense could be best anyone around Brewers has seen in a while.

Now, enter Jackie Bradley Jr.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

I don't think this has anything to do with the idea of Cain opting out again. Everything (and I mean everything) that has been written so far about Cain indicates he intends to play this year. The only perceived negative thing I've read about Cain is that he feels like he needs to get his legs under him after not playing last summer.

I also don't think Cain or Avi are going to be traded. Stearns is not the type of GM who regularly deals guys who are at their low-water mark value-wise. I'm not sure how this is going to work out playing time-wise, but it's going to be fun to watch.

He is a great compliment to Garcia/Cain in my opinion. A bit pricey, but in the end he will still probably have over 400 ABs.

If you are simply looking at small sample size stats from 2020 or are living in the year 2016 this is probably a lot more exciting to you. A closer look at his three years prior to 2020 tells us an average offensive player overall is probably a more realistic expectation. Of course if he sits a bunch versus lefties he may end up looking a bit more favorable in a platoon situation.

Can we now put to bed any notion that this team won't spend money or has no money? That has been strongly disproved.

Though I like this signing, for me anyway, this doesn't tell me or show me the Brewers won't spend money. It's a two year deal with an opt out after 1 at 12 million/yr. VERY team friendly. To show me they are willing/can spend money I would need to see some long term deals..3 years minimum(preferably 4-5) for Free agents before I'm inclined to think they will spend $$. No, re signing Yelich doesn't count(in my book). Now get 2 or more other guys locked up like that, THEN I will be convinced they spend money.

Wow, tough crowd. Money is money, especially when payrolls are looked at on a year-by-year basis.

I can't remember the last time we have had a left handed lineup with as much potential.

Agreed in terms of quantity of LHH. Going into 2019 having Yelich, Grandal (S), Moustakas, and Shaw as LHHs looked like a pretty talented set of lefties.

Not just “at Night” anymore.
