Packer 2021 Draft Discussion- Eric Stokes, CB, Georgia; Round 2 Josh Myers, C, Ohio State; 3: Amari Rodgers, WR, Clemson

I think that's how the evaluation procedure goes of most casual fans. They read an article about Player X and how he's going to be the Next Big Thing, they read 3 paragraphs about it, they see a draft projection for him and they're sold. Then the guy ends up slipping 10 spots and falls to their favorite team and they end up in arms when their favorite team does the same thing that the 9 previous teams has done and passes on them.

That, or they read "scouting reports" or mock drafts from some on-line hacks (such as Walter, perhaps the worst in the business) or that haven't been updated in six months (also Walter, and to a lesser extent The Draft Network) and take them as gospel.

Tom Pelissero

@TomPelissero

The #49ers reached out to the #Packers on Wednesday about trading for Aaron Rodgers, but no formal offer was made and a source said there is a “zero percent chance” that Green Bay deals the reigning NFL MVP.

Wouldn't surprise me if something like this happened at this time next year or the year after. Not now, though. The cap hit would be too extreme to make it work, regardless of the return the 49ers would be sending back (which would have to be enormous at this point).

ESPN's Rob Demovsky (formerly of the Press-Gazette) says his source claims there was no call.

That was in response to another tweet from Bill Michaels, referencing a specific trade package...but call vs. no call, it sounds like a dead story at this point.

Both Pelissero and Glazer have confirmed that the 49ers did reach out (after Demovsky's tweet), but no formal offer. Totally a dead issue, but there is obvious league interest there, and it is likely there will be next year as well.

I wonder if SF is getting cold feet about picking at #3? They gave up an awful lot for Mac Jones, Trey Lance, or Justin Fields.

The 49ers are gambling that a team will want one of those three and will give up a lot to get one. If not they will probably go OL or DL with the pick. Rumors are there that Fields is dropping like a rock and could be available in the 15-20 range.

Fields is going to make a team regret drafting him. He will be as bad as Trubisky as he is a very inaccurate passer. I would actually take Trubisky's arm over Fields'.

But they traded #12 plus two future first rounders to move up to #3. I’m not sure a team makes that move for anything other than a franchise QB. They could have gotten a very good lineman at #12.

That is interesting, I really like Fields and think he will end up the steal of the draft from the QB perspective. He has one of the highest ceilings (Lance) and his arm is great. You don't complete over 70% of your passes and not have accuracy. Trubisky really failed with learning how to read defenses and anticipating throws. No one questions his physical tools in terms of arm strength and mobility. Fields has it all, now whether he puts it together and ends up in a system that uses his strenghts is another story.

So given today's news.....would GB trade Rodgers to get a #1 from Denver or the Raiders? Obviously there'd be more than just a player for pick swap. Denver picks #9, Raiders pick #17.

I think this MAY work out better than needlessly trading up one spot to draft Trubisky, but man, how much better would the Bears be if they had just kept some of the GOBS of draft picks they've traded away the past five years?

Not concnered. Pace can't build a winner trading away so many picks.
