Dylan File out until mid season

Nice job keeping us up to date on Brewers Tom H and Adam M. Imagine a story on a Packer having surgery that will keep him out half a season being delayed by more than three weeks?

Well there's a roster spot when he goes to 60 day IR. Figure Boxberger is in line to get it with Shaw waiting for the spot of either Maile or Nottingham.

Such a joke that guys like Haudricourt are seemingly never held to account for such sloppy work.

I guess I am not sure when the injury happened but if he didn't pitch at all then he would just burn an option and not go on the DL to prevent major league service time and pay.

Doesn't the team or the player have to announce something in order for them to report it?

Maile is almost guaranteed to be on the roster because he has a minor league option. Nottingham (and Piña) don't, so it's highly unlikely both will be on the roster to start the year.

Yup, does not get much worse than Tom or Adam.

Not that 80% of Brewers twitter can see what Tom posts anyway.

You're really faulting them for not reporting an injury the Brewers hadn't released that appears to have happened before the start of camp on maybe the 45th guy they'd probably be checking on in a year when they have significantly less access than normal to the point where even if they hadn't seen someone working out personally it might not have meant anything?

And I say that as someone who I believe has File ranked slightly above average on the prospect poll.

Does File accrue service time while he's on the IL?

yes, but because he didn't sustain the injury during major league camp, the brewers are not obligated to place him on the major league injured list. they can choose to do so, but it comes at the expense of major league pay and accrued service time.

Beat guys should be able to read minds.

a reminder that if a 40-man roster spot is needed, the brewers could recall dylan file (not to report) and place him on the 60-day injured list.

Adam is an MLB employee. He's not going to scoop stuff without the team's say-so. Tom has been in coast mode for 20 years, he has no excuse.

While putting File on the major league 60-day IL would open a roster spot, it does also give him service time as though he were on the 26 man roster, bringing him closer to arbitration and free agency. It may seem insignificant, but there have been players in the past that had enough IL time that the team was forced into difficult decisions by Arby timelines. The Brewers value control so much that I'd guess they would work pretty hard to find other ways to find a roster spot.

rather than starting the service clock on file, the brewers are more likely to review the remaining guys on the 10-day injured list to see if any of them can be transferred to the 60-day injured list, or see if any of those guys can be activated and then designated for assignment.

but it's a reminder that file is currently taking up a 40-man spot with no value whatsoever to the team.

Why is File not on the injured list? I thought he was out for the first half of the season?

dylan file didn't sustain his injury during major league camp, having never appeared in an exhibition game for the club, and thus, the brewers were able to place him on optional assignment instead of the major league injured list. they can choose to place file on the 60-day injured list to open up a roster spot, but it comes at the expense of major league pay and accrued service time.

True story. I told Tom he was sounding like a company man one time and he blocked me immediately.
