reillymcshane

Here's mine. I really couldn't move many due to the lack of a minor-league season. So, adjustments are primarily due to graduations/releases/free agent departures (Supak).

I think Michael Mediavilla's (https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=mediav000mic)departure is going to hurt. How Stearns and Company desicded to let a guy with a 0.640 WHIP and sub-1.00 ERA over his career go just boggles the mind.

Here is the list:

1. Cooper Hummel, OF/? (2) - The only two hitters in the Brewers system with higher wRC+ in 2019 were Hiura and Grisham. Could be asset at OF, but would be nice to see what he can do at 1B and C (where he played in the minors). - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=hummel000coo

2. David Fry, C/IF/OF (3) - The bat has held, versatility a huge plus, did well in AFL in 2019. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=fry---002dav

3. Dylan File, RHP (4) - Could be the starter to break out in Milwaukee from AAA. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=file--000dyl

4. Aaron Ashby, LHP (5) - Still a very impressive arm, but Sunitsch beat him in some peripherals in 2019. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=ashby-001aar

5. Mario Feliciano, C (6) - Huge breakout in 2019, but can he draw walks? - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=felici000mar

6. Scott Sunitsch, LHP (7) - Had a lower BB/9 ratio than Ashby, and matched Ashby in K/9. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=sunits000sco

7. Weston Wilson, IF/OF (8) - Versatile and added drawing walks. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=wilson001wes

8. Ethan Small, LHP (9) - Very good start, but only 7 games in 2019 - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=small-000eth

9. Clayton Andrews, LHP (11) - Looks like a poor man's Josh Hader with a side of Brooks Kieschnick. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=andrew003cla

10. Alec Bettinger, RHP (12) - Could be a solid 3.50-4.00 ERA guy. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=bettin000ale

11. Noah Zavolas, RHP (13) - The Brewers got a right-handed version of Brent Suter in the Domingo Santana trade. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=zavola000noa

12. Max Lazar, RHP (14) - Lazar could be an ace, but needs to make it higher up. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=lazar-000max

13. Cam Devanney, SS (15) - Has power and OBP skills. Hit for decent average, too. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=devann000cam

14. Bryce Turang, SS (16) - Showed good OBP skills, but 2019 struggles at Carolina cause to worry. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=turang002bri

15. Thomas Dillard, OF/1B/C (17) - OBP skills in abundance, power... but low average. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=dillar002tho

16. Jesus Parra, 3B (18) - Like Dillard, good OBP skills, power, but struggles to hit for average. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=parra-001jes

17. Quintin Torres-Costa, LHP (19) - Came back from Tommy John surgery for AFL, could be another poor man's Hader. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=torres000qui

18. Ernesto Wilson Martinez, 1B (20) - Did okay with Rocky Mountain Vibe. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=martin004ern

19. Ryan Aguilar, OF/1B (22) - Added a hit tool to go with OBP skills, speed and pop in 2019. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=aguila000rya

20. Luke Barker, RHP (23) - Didn't get shelled at San Antonio. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=barker000luk

21. Garrett Mitchell, OF (unranked) - No playing time to judge - what will layoff do? - https://www.baseball-reference.com/redirect.fcgi?player=1&mlb_ID=669003

22. Gabriel Garcia, UT (24) - Draw walks, has power, gets plunked, but can't hit for average. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=garcia005gab

23. Angel Perdomo, LHP (25) - Made MLB, but still profiles as a left-handed Derrick Turnbow. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=perdom000ang

24. Aaron Familia, 3B (26) - Some power, but outstanding OBP skills. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=famili000aar

25. Korry Howell, SS/OF (27) - Speed and OBP, also versatility. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=howell000kor

26. Zack Brown, RHP (29) - Baby seals meeting Canadian fishermen in the Arctic had better 2019s than Zack. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=brown-002zac

27. Victor Casteneda, RHP (NR) - 2019 showed promise in the pen, and a dominant run as a starter in the AFL.

28. Freddy Zamora, SS (unranked) - No playing time last season, and not just because of COVID. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/redirect.fcgi?player=1&mlb_ID=668965

29. Hayden Cantrelle, SS (unranked) - Speed is a plus, a switch-hitter, and versatile. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/redirect.fcgi?player=1&mlb_ID=676463

30. Thomas Jankins, RHP (30 - Didn't get killed at AAA, but not overpowering. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=jankin000tho

31. Anthony Bender, LHP (31) - Made a rapid rise, but need more than 36 innings. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=bender000ant

32. Corey Ray, OF (32) - Was 2018 the fluke? Got 40-man spot. Left-handed Keon Broxton - not bad, but wish for more. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=ray---000cor

33. Tyrone Taylor, OF (33) - Made the majors, and was kept over Stokes in 2019. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=taylor000tyr

34. Lucas Erceg, 3B (34) - Time is running out after 2020 pause. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=erceg-000luc

35. Payton Henry, C (35) - Has better OBP skills than Feliciano, but could be odd catcher out between him, Feliciano, and Fry. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=henry-000pay

36. Francisco Gonzalez, IF (36) - Switch hitter, speed, doesn't strike out. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=gonzal015fra

37. Oscar Castenada, RHP (37) - Could be an intriguing option if he can jump from DSL to Arizona. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=castan002osc

38. Alex Hall, C (38) - Clock is ticking on prospect from down under. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=hall--000ale

39. Jhonnys Cabrera, C (39) - There is an interesting bat, but a long way from DSL to MLB. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=cabrer000jho

40. Tristen Lutz, OF (38) - Not sure a .754 OPS from 2019 will cut it - will pause hurt more? - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=lutz--000tri

26. Jon Olczak, RHP (28) - Had trouble in AAA in 2019, but many pitchers did. - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=olczak000jon

As a note, Olczak was released by the Brewers last May.

No team - at least according to MLB - has signed him thus far. Perhaps someone else knows more about his situation.

My thoughts on the list I know I have Small rated lower then most ( and I hope he proves me wrong) but his fast ball speed concerns me ,I know he's has great movement but in the majors ? I really love last years draft ,our pitching is getting better and deeper each year. Edit. I had a player who is not eligible so took him out ,just move everyone up one please.

I could be wrong, but I believe Aaron Familia, Anthony Bender and Francisco Gonzalez also aren't still with the organization.

I checked and you are correct on all three counts.

2 Drew Rassmussen RHP

According to the ground rules, Rasmussen is no longer eligible. I had to look twice, because I thought I may have forgotten a guy that would have been in my top 3 ;)

Yep, you are correct. A couple of people have put him on lists. This is why I want more than 25 players - for things like this.

Thanks for pointing it out.

While not loaded with blue chip prospects in the upper levels, I like the depth of the Brewers farm system. There’s a decent mix of high floor/low ceiling types, probable major league contributors, and high upside lottery tickets. And as you’ll see from my list, I absolutely loved the Brewers 2020 Draft.

1. Garrett Mitchell - Clear best prospect in the system in my eyes. Plus hit, run, and defense, with untapped power that may reach major league average. Has the look of a real deal lead off hitter.

2. Freddy Zamora - Missing 2020 with a torn ACL wasn’t as much of a development loss due to the pandemic. Very high defensive ceiling and already has shown good strike zone judgement and ability to work counts in the ACC. Good looking swing with room to grow into 20HR pop.

3. Brice Turang - Ranking based on pedigree and probable floor of major league utility player. Good glove, good base runner, and knows what he’s doing at the plate. He will need to show he can hit the ball with more authority in order for me to see a for sure regular but there is definitely time to do so.

4. Antoine Kelly - The only pitching prospect in the system who you can dream on becoming a front end starter, although he comes with a lot of risk. Will need to develop secondary offerings and better control but reports from fall camp are that he’s already begun making strides in those areas.

5. Mario Feliciano - Looks the part when he makes good contact, and when he does it goes a long way. Swings and misses a lot and most likely won’t be more than an average defensive catcher at best. Still, the bat potential alone is enough to place him here.

6. Tristen Lutz - Through slow starts, mid-season streaks, and late season fades, has shown flashes of becoming a power hitting RF with the arm to match. Moves pretty well for a bigger guy. Needs to keep the light on all season.

7. Hedbert Perez - I don’t like ranking kids without an at-bat so high but this is not a very top heavy system and there could not be more glowing reports about him. For some reason, I’m concerned that he’s already more maxed out than your average teenager but his base of tools and acumen should allow him to climb the ladder either way.

8. Ethan Small - Not as high on Small as most but could not bring myself to place him any lower than this due to his high probability of being a contributor to the big league club at some point in the next couple years. Without adding a couple ticks of velocity, his low ceiling prevents me from placing him any higher.

9. Zavier Warren - Fun prospect with real baseball athleticism. Great bat control and a real chance to stick at catcher with enough reps. Looking forward to seeing the strides he makes in his first full season.

10. Aaron Ashby - Top ten based on stuff and production up through the mid-minors, although his control has room for improvement and he looks a lot like a reliever to me.

11. Luis Medina - A swing both effortless and mighty. I’m really excited to see what Medina can show over the next few years. I have visions of the best lefty power bat off the farm since Prince Fielder.

12. Eduardo Garcia - Good glove with good plate discipline. Needs much more strength in his swing but he’s young and his other tools give him decent floor for a teenager, if there is such a thing.

13. Micah Bello - Plus speed, plus defense, plus arm. Has a good idea at the plate but seems stuck between being two different hitters. If he can start driving the ball more consistently without selling out to do it, he can have a breakout season.

14. Dylan File - Best command in the system. Was already an overachiever type who I would not have bet against making it to the show anyway, and is apparently now sitting 93-95mph. Expect to see him in Milwaukee in 2021.

15. Jeferson Quero - Defensive catcher who has already shown vast improvement with the bat, per reports. Had to rank him this high for that alone at such a young age.

16. Nick Bennett - Bulldog lefty who knows how to pitch. Strong understanding and command of his arsenal. Potential fast mover although ceiling may be limited.

17. Jackson Chourio - Ranked here purely off potential and reports of above average hit and power tools at SS.

18. Hayden Cantrelle - Gamer. Can run, work counts, and play both MI spots, although arm more suited for 2B. Got some Independent League at bats after the draft and held his own in a short sample.

19. Payton Henry - I’m starting to doubt Henry will ever make enough contact to matter. But he was always going to be a late bloomer as a cold state catcher and has already improved immensely on the defensive side the last couple years. Here’s to 2021 being the year the bat starts to come around.

20. Carlos Roa - My favorite under-the-radar international signed prospect in the system. Can hit and pick it. Curious to see if he can do both enough to be discussed along side the more heralded international signings by season’s end.

21. Bowden Francis - Nastiest right handed stuff in the system. With refined command and an improved changeup, could be the best starter on this list. Wanted to rank all the way up into the mid-teens but he needs to make the aforementioned improvements to avoid the bullpen, where his FB/SL combo would play.

22. Gabe Holt - Poor man’s Turang at the plate with better speed. Would rank higher if he had more pop and was more of an asset defensively at 2B/CF.

23. Alec Bettinger - Back end starter ceiling. Probable middle reliever.

24. Israel Puello - The most exciting of the pitchers acquired from the Phillies. Already getting swings and misses while locating the ball well as a teenager. Good bet to add velocity and possibly shoot up this list in the future.

25. Jesus Parra - Big swing, big arm. On defense, 3B almost seems like best case scenario as he already has heavy feet and hasn’t filled out yet. One of the few teenage power bats in the system though.

26. Noah Campbell - Wheels and defensive versatility. Hits better with wood bats.

27. Joe Gray - Really needs to improve his contact quality. Untapped power and great run, catch, and throw skills.

28. Max Lazar - Good numbers in low ball but needs to add velocity.

29. Noah Zavolas - Crafty righty, great command. Similar to File before the velocity increase.

30. David Hamilton - Another middle infielder with good plate discipline and speed but no power.

Was the only one to roll with Hedbert as #1 last spring, so have to keep that up. I legit think he will be a top 20 spec in all of baseball by this time next spring.

I'll also predict by this time next spring, the brewers will have 5 top 100 specs. Hedbert, Turang, Mitchell, Kelly and one of Quero or Zamora.
