PUIG

TURBO

Why not?

Stick him at 1B, seems anyone can play 1B.

Why is he not signed yet? Why was he not signed last year?

Personally, I can't stand the guy, but if he can be had at a reasonable price for a 1 year deal, why not klick the tires?

God, it would be hard to root for him though...

Puig is basically living of his notoriety. He had 2 big seasons with the Dodgers 7+ years ago. Since that time he has essentially been league average as a hitter. His hitting prowess is not such that it’s reasonable to hire him and play him out of position. Secondly, he’s not clearly better than the OFers the Brewers currently have under contract. Based on the above he’s not a good fit for Milwaukee without ever having to reach a discussion about his antics/behavior on the field

He's not an All Star but he's got a 122 career OPS+. Other than Yelich, what Brewer outfielder has better OPS+ than that? Answer is none. Even if you take out the two big years with the Dodgers, his OPS+ has fluctuated between 98 and 120. I'd take 98 as a floor. He's been around forever but just turned 30. A year off from the game, maybe for a year you can get the best out of him both on and off the field.

All that may vey well be true, but a 98+ OPS means exactly what I said, a league average hitter. Not even the most outside the box thinking team is going to sign a league average hitting outfielder in order to play them at first base; and signing Puig to start in the outfield doesn’t make the team better.

No thanks. I don't need to be more annoyed watching our team than I usually am.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Puig's 162 game average numbers are about what I expected from Avisail Garcia when he signed:

.277/.348/.823, 25 HR, 78 RBI

Garcia 162 game average:

.271/.324/.746, 19 HR, 77 RBI

When looked at in a vacuum, sure does seem like Garcia was an overpay given Puig can't find work.

Taking this a step further, since Garcia is a sunk cost, you might as well roll with him rather than adding Puig.

If he comes cheap enough to not prevent still finding 1B/3B options (and if any possible clubhouse cancer concerns are overblown, which I don't know if there are any, but he does seem kind of like a knucklehead), he would make a good 3rd/4th OF option and platoon partner with Garcia.

I get that Puig has kind of odd reverse splits, but it would still be weird to have two RHH OFers in a strict platoon.

Avisail Garcia was a terrible signing...but now we are stuck with him so I doubt going for a guy like Puig is really an option. Maybe if you can get him to play first and the corner OF positions it’s not a bad option.

I doubt it we would do it, but in our budget if he is dirt cheap it’s exactly the kind of move we could use to hopefully inject some kind of offense into this roster.

if we were to sign him u would not put him at 1st.....Yelich has an arm like a girl....i would move avi to left and have puig play right....i saw a weekend series in yankee stadium in august of 2019.....the yanks never even tried to run on puig.....and his throws were right on the money.....no one would run on us if we had an avi....locain ...puig outfield
