2021 Brewers Optimism Thread

Urias has reached base 10 times in the last 5 games. 8 walks and 2 hits. He could walk more in the first two months than Arcia would have in a full season. In 2018 Arcia walked 15 times. In 2019 it was 43 and then last year in was 14 in the shortened season.

Urias should stay in the 8 spot. Perfect type of hitter before the pitcher.

Another reason for optimism is that right now our weakness looks to be 1b and SS on offense and maybe 7th inning guy in bullpen. Urias is improving already so maybe we won't need an upgrade so if that leaves 1b that is a position that shouldn't cost as much in trade capital. Bullpen arms can cost a little but non closers are usually cheaper.

Main point being improving this team will be easier them trying to add a top end starting pitchers, a closer or a 3b power bat.

Again all that could change if shaw slumps, urias doesn't improve and a pitcher falters or gets hurt

Also could change if/when Hiura figures it out. And because this is the Optimism Thread, he will.

Very true. Hiura figuring things out would go a long way on this team. After last year not many people would have picked Narvaez, Garcia and Shaw leading the way on offense

Crazy that the Brewers have two TOR pitchers that are homegrown on the same squad (Peralta more or less is but we didn't sign/draft him originally). We've literally had ONE of those in the last 20 years and he was on a gawdawful team.

Given the level Peralta was at when he was acquired, I have no problem claiming him as homegrown.

I'd even argue that Hader was homegrown as well.

What the Crew does with the minor-league prospects it gets matters, even if they're at AA or AAA.

When’s the last time the Brewers had four quality starting pitchers all of whom made their major league debut with Milwaukee. If they would have had these pitchers in 2011 and 2018 they’d have a couple of rings now

I love this damn thread! Brewers on pace to win 99 games and we haven't really hit a weaker portion of our schedule yet!

Christian Yelich is out, and hadn't found his power even when he was in the lineup. Lorenzo Cain is out. Kolten Wong is out. Devin Williams hasn't found his groove yet. Keston Hiura may as well be out, because he's been atrociously bad.

All of that, and this this team is still on pace for 90+ wins, while mixing and matching guys like Vogelbach and McKinney. This team is so much more fun to watch than last summer's, when Sogard, Holt and Smoak were taking collars every night. When this team gets those guys back and the offense gets humming, watch out!

This team feels like Counsell's dream. The bench is so versatile and good in different roles. When healthy we have so many interchangeable of, Vogelbach and McKinney can start but are also really good pinch hit bats. If Williams and Yardley get things straightened out he has options out of the bullpen.

Once Yelich and Wong come back this offense should really good but props to Stearns for building a roster that has withstood key injuries

Pitching, pitching, pitching. Good pitching wins game over the long haul. Getting to the seventh inning without the bullpen is a huge key for any team. I hope the back end of the rotation can match the front end and continue to get us to the seventh inning. Knocking on wood.

A sweep tonight will pretty much wipe out one of the losing series.

Today. 3 o'clock start (so you don't miss it.)

10-7. Took a road series from everyone's #2 pick in the NL without 3 of their top 8.

This team could be really special.

We will be very difficult to beat in a playoff series with Burnes and Woodruff starting and Williams/Hader relieving.

Just get in the playoffs and shorten that rotation to Burnes, Woodruff, and Peralta...

With the days off in the playoffs you could go Burnes, Woodruff, Anderson rotation and have Peralta coming out of the pen piggybacking the starter every other game. In a 5 game divisional series you get Burnes and Woodruff starting 4 of the games and Peralta pitching in 3 of them.

Narvaez needs more love. 173 OPS+. Yet you rarely see any props for him here or anywhere.

As far as the roation goes, nobody has any earthly idea who the 3rd SP will be come playoff time. 5 months is a lonnnnng time. If Peralta is consistently at hus best in September, he's your guy. If not, could be Anderson, Houser, somwone called up, or trade acquisition.

He's been flat-out awesome. I loved the transaction and thought he would do just fine for us. Well, he has been way more than fine. We have the best catching duo in the league. When Pina is rested, he is pretty darn good as well.
