Corbin Burnes currently leading the league in K9, BB9 and HR9. The FIP-ple Crown, if you will.

No pitcher has ever lead the league in all three categories.

This is crazy. Let the social media let all the voters know...

I am seeing Eovaldi ahead of Burnes in BB/9...am I mistaken?

I'm assuming leading his league, the NL.

Also assuming that Peralta isn't qualified in K/9 because Burnes is behind him there too.

September 1st, Magic number is 20, Brewers have taken two from a probable playoff opponent at their place, Adames back, Vogelbach looks like he's back, Peralta this weekend, Escobar should be back on the weekend as well.

Optimism thread cannot be allowed to drop to page 2!

I haven't gone back to compare those very good Brewers' staffs of the early 80s, but I have to think that it's likely we're witnessing the best pitching staff in the history of the franchise.

2021 staff has posted an 80 ERA- so far with 1988 (87 ERA-) and 1992 (88 ERA-) in 2nd/3rd on the franchise leaderboard.

It's been a kind of weird season, hasn't at all conformed to expectations, but I believe that this is the best Brewers team I've ever seen. (And that goes back to include the late 70s...so basically best Brewers team ever.) Best pitching, best defense, and an offense that has improved dramatically in season. It's been incredibly fun to watch and I am frequently surprised at the complaints in, for example, the average in game thread. If you can't enjoy this Brewers season, I am genuinely at a loss.

Even if you don't buy that they're the best ever, there's a good case that they are the best-configured for a short playoff series, with three ace starters and an already strong pen bolstered by several decent starters for the playoffs.

At this point in my life I have no predictions, no expectations, I'm happy to have baseball to watch and I'm going to follow them thick or thin, but there's a voice in my head saying this might be as good a bet for the World Series as you'll ever see. Of course, since this is the optimism thread, you have to note that they don't lose a lot in FA, and the lineup could be considerably better next year...

Garcia is a pretty big piece that they likely won't be running it back with...but since its the optimism thread I'll also add that while this looks like it might be the best Brewers team in history, they have pretty much had this success despite the performance of their cornerstone player. With Yelich looking more like the all-star caliber player as of late, I don't think its crazy to feel that this team hasn't really come close to their ceiling yet even with their performance over the past few months.

Ohtani is a deserving lock for AL MVP, but did you know that Corbin Burnes is second in the majors in fWAR and first in the NL?

He probably won't win NL MVP because he hasn't been an innings workhorse, but he really does deserve it (as of right now).

After beating the Cardinals yesterday (September 5th), the Brewers now have an 11-game lead in the division. This is the largest the Brewers have ever led a division by in franchise history.

Ironically, the previous record of 10.5 games was first set exactly 10 years to the day before (9/5/2011) with… a victory over the Cardinals.

The 1982 team was tied for 31st best (104 ERA-). I know it was the wallbangers offense driven team, but hard to believe we have seen 30 better pitching staffs in team history.

That staff was just a lot of just below average pitchers, and Pete Vukovich, and a really good closer.

Pete Vukovich won the Cy Young with a 1.5 WHIP, lololol!

I heard a story from some old Brewer, might have been Gorman, that Vuckovich would purposefully walk the bases loaded just to get to a guy he knew he could get out. Considering he had 102 BBs his Cy Young year I don't doubt that story for a second.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

I believe it. Vuke's 82 (looking back) was really pedestrian. 2.8 WAR (not bad, but not CY worthy). He went 18-6 on the back of major run support and 9 CG. basically a 1-1 K/BB ratio (lol) The 1.5 WHIP and 4.03 fip kills me dead. If they had access to advanced stats in that era, he probably doesn't sniff top 8 in the voting. I mean, we're talking Burnes and Woody as legit CY candidates and neither has 10 wins, and most of the voters probably won't even care. Pitcher wins don't mean a thing now.

How crazy is it that it's Labor Day, the team is on pace to win 99 games and none of the starters have 10 wins?

Crazy indeed. The bullpen has a 41 wins (3rd most) & 17 losses (tied for fewest).

Big part of that is that the Brewers have done a lot of their scoring in the 6th/7th innings...

1st (78 R | 107 OPS+)

2nd (67 R | 103 OPS+)

3rd (55 R | 84 OPS+)

4th (66 R | 85 OPS+)

5th (60 R | 78 OPS+)

6th (87 R | 109 OPS+)

7th (81 R | 103 OPS+)

8th (62 R | 100 OPS+)

9th (54 R | 126 OPS+)
