Badgers got a 2022 commit from Franklin, WI QB Myles Burkett today. True dual-threat guy (runs a 4.6 40yard). I think his recruitment would have picked up had he played a full season last year but Covid cut it to 5 games. Hopefully, he can encourage some of the talented in-state guys from the 2022 class to commit to Wisconsin.

Jet sweeps worked very well against Michigan's defense but they exposed their only two quality receivers to big hits and both went down, Davis for the season. Thankfully both will be back but hopefully if jet sweeps are big part of game plan they can use guys like Bracey and Chandler instead of their most experienced receivers.

Gordon was a freak so yes it did work best then. However, that was really early in the jet sweep 'sweeping' college football so teams were less up to speed on defending it. The issue with using a RB now for it is it becomes a dead giveaway it was coming, not necessarily the handoff itself, but the action. Back then UW did use some double fake Stave deep balls off it to help with it though. We haven't really had QB with that arm strength to do it since then until this year though, but can bring that back now. But basically as soon as you knew they had both RBs in the other team knew it was a run.

Even being an idiot in the stands my friends and I picked up on and perked up in our seats whenever we saw Gordon come on the field and the other RB stay. Then you'd see the D start pointing and yelling about and shift down to be heavy on the side he'd be going. Still worked well as he was a freak, that OL then was nuts and the other RB was good too. Eventually it kind of got to be the best play from it was to fake to Mel and give to the RB up the middle for 5-10 yds since the D was so shifted to defend Gordon. Don't get me wrong, if you can get those results I'd still be for it but I think it's much tougher these days as teams are prepped for it so that's why they use WRs on. But specifically recruiting a WR/RB combo guy who can do both isn't a bad idea at all. AJ Taylor was like that. Guerrero kind of is too I think if I remember correctly. Pryor has been a very good runner too but yes not the body type to take the hits as well. A combo WR type like this would be a good slot WR too, think of a Randall Cobb type guy.

Not necessarily - half of the effectiveness of the jet sweep is just making it a credible threat to keep the DBs/OLBs from crashing down in the box. Faking the jet sweep keeps the OLBs and DBs at home, keeping defenders out of the box and allowing for runs up the middle behind UW's road graders. And if you have a RB who is a good pass-catcher (Guerendo came to UW as a WR and lined up at WR for a few plays in the Rose Bowl) he can run a wheel route and get behind the defenders if they come up expecting a jet sweep.

Just having that motion in there as eye candy is enough even if you don't run it.

Right, I mentioned that in there, what you're describing was one of the best results, simple run up the gut became very easy since they had to prep for Gordon coming. If they can still get that result using two RBs I'm all for it. I'm just guessing they don't think they can anymore (since Ds are better prepped now) and that's why they're using WRs. If you put in a RB the D knows that action is coming as soon as the personnel gets on the field and can plan their D as such. Do it with a WR and they don't know until he goes in motion. As Briggs says though, maybe recruiting guys specifically for this as slot type WR/RB combos could be an idea so the WR doesn't get beat up. No one has to convince me on this weapon, I've been on this train for 10+ years now, back to the Abby/Gilreath days. Chryst also ran this to death at Pitt with WR Boyd (I think that was the WRs name, played for bengals in NFL) with great results so maybe he is a bit stuck on the WR and could try this. Just in general though, one of my complaints the last few years is too predictable based on the personnel on the field. Putting in a RB for this would add to that concern. Most teams and UW have used WRs (Uw started with Gilreath/Abby) for it the whole time, Gordon was just such a freak.

Chryst taking over play-calling duties next year. This is good. Maybe he'll be too pre-occupied to punt on 4th and 2 from the other team's 40

Very happy with the Chryst playcalling being back. I've been asking this for a bit now as they weren't being clear who was calling the plays, which to me implied Rudolph was or they'd have just said Chryst. Frankly the O just hasn't been to the level needed since PC came back. They need to get back to the 2009-11ish level again. Pair that with our current D level and you have a shot.

I was worried this wouldn't happen until Rudolph got a HC job so I'm glad they did it anyway. I was hoping Rudolph would get a job at Miami Ohio type place. They'd bring Bostad back to OL and let PC be OC again. Hire a new LB coach. But this is a close 2nd and I like the hiring of another D coach as well instead of another offensive coach. I thought they were unbalanced by one and they corrected it. Still want Bostad back at OL but maybe he doesn't want to do it, I'd guess he would if Rudolph left but no inside info anything, just guessing.

Cephus is suing over the dismissed sexual assault case. I know this was talked about at length while ongoing in this board.

UW is in a bit of a difficult spot here. If they 'just' suspend him from the team and school, then they're accused of not taking it seriously.

I get why Cephus is doing this, but I can't say I really blame the University. That's is an incredibly powerful accusation, and they're now being sued for taking it too seriously.

Good to see Cephus doing well in Detriot though.

The assumption of guilt and his expulsion with such flimsy evidence is a real black eye for the university. But oh well, a person's rights don't mean anything if there is a possibility of a corporation's or big government organization's reputation being just a bit tarnished.

I don't think they took it too seriously they just over reacted. Taking it seriously would have been suspending him and not doing what they did. This wasn't taking the accusation seriously this was just UW looking more at the optical social media rage which is 90% of the time just a mob of lunatics that know absolutely nothing about anything but claim to know everything about anything. UW took the social media mob lunatics too seriously and not the accusation.

Rachad Wildgoose pro-day numbers-

40-yard dash = 4.41

10-yard split = 1.49

Vertical = 36.0

reps at 225 = 11

3-cone drill = 7.00

40-yard dash is a plus number and the 10-yard split is a plus-plus number. Rest is pretty much average. Cannot find an exact height measurement, still listed at 5"11" everywhere I look.

Have to think he's probably a third or fourth rounder when looking at the on-field resume and workout numbers.

Reggie Pearson entering transfer portal. He missed all of last season because WI doctors wouldn’t medically clear him. Said second and third opinions from outside doctors say he can play, so he’s transferring out to be able to still pursue a football career.

DE Isaac Townsend is transferring from Oregon to WI. Was a 3 star recruit who used red shirt, then doesn’t look like he played at all last year. Guessing not an immediate impact type of guy.

That is a pretty disappointing cone drill for a CB where cutting and changing directions are so critical.

Average for CB at the 2020 combine was 7.01 seconds. At the 2019 combine it was 6.93 seconds. I'd say Wildgoose's number was pretty much average for the position.

Got a link?

NFL Savant has the average 3-code drill for CBs at 6.88s. 7.01 is right around average for a safety. A 7-second cone drill isn't great for a CB or WR, whose game is predicated on cutting on moving. I think Kahlil Mack had a 7-second cone drill.

Doesn’t appear to have any ill will towards Wisconsin regarding this and understands it is a long shot to have any team clear him to play but wants to at least try. Sounds like a situation where you can’t really blame either side for how they are handling it.

OT Walker Little of Stanford posted a 6.9 although that was the best time ever for an OL
