Eddie Rosario

With the rumors of us looking at multiple OF's, does anyone here feel that there may be some legitimacy to us potentially trading Cain and his contract along with Hader?

Aren’t the Mets looking for an OF? They missed out on both Springer and Hand.

I think Yelich would look great in a Met's uniform. He'll have a big year in 2021 too. Mets should strike while the iron is still hot!

I think that if they're trading an OF, and not just moving one to 1B (Or hoping that there will still be an agreement on the DH), it's Garcia. Even as he is getting older, there is a massive difference in run prevention between Cain in center as opposed to Garcia or Yelich. They'd ideally want a CF if they traded Cain, so it'd then be Rosario *and* someone else.

But I gotta say, without the 1B/DH plan I don't see the logic of Rosario. You can create at bats for 4 OFs, so that's not a stumbling block, but it still spends a good chunk of whatever money there is on something that's not corner IF. And that would be fine if it was to fit in a special bat, bur Rosario is a 106 wRC+ bat for his career, who is limited to LF.

If I was in charge I'd just roll with Cain and Garcia instead of selling low.

As for it being Yelich? No, just no. Not happening.

Another CF to Mets? What and having them cry again? And maybe the player we may trade for could cry also.

I'm not good at linking tweets to this message board, but there was just a tweet this morning from a Jon Becker (anyone know who that is?), and it claims that Eddie is most likely going to sign very soon here (maybe even today), and the Brewers, Braves and Dodgers are pursuing the hardest. It also mentioned an interesting nugget that Brewers are asking him to play 1B if he agreed to deal with us. It would seem to me though that the Dodgers and Braves have pretty crowded OF's as well right now - so not sure where those teams are looking at having him get most of his playing time?

Rosario's 230+ games at 2B in the minors suggest he'd be able to transition to 1B fairly easily, but without the DH where does that put Vogelbach? Still I like the idea.

Highly doubt the DH is coming to NL this year... So Vogelbach will be a bench bat now.

If he's able to bounce between 1B and the OF, I think a rotation of Rosario, Garcia, and Vogelbach could be pretty productive.

Putting a guy at 1B, that's NEVER played there before...... Uhhhh, Idk.

Come on, man, how long have you been a Brewer fan? Making moves like that is 100% in their playbook.

34 years.... And I know.... What if he sucks at it? Then the right side of our infield is TERRIBLE.

I like Rosario, just nervous about putting him at a position he's never played before... I mean they thought Braun could do it and look how that turned out.

Not that this matters but a 6'1 180 lb 1B, can't say I've ever seen someone that light be a regular 1Bman.

That doesn't mean it's a good idea, how many times has it worked out for us? I mean really worked out?

It's in our playbook because we are always desperate for a 1B. Why do we not address that position in the draft?

Exactly, thank you!

I agree. Draft a 1B and just shove him in the MLB lineup. Now that should be in our playbook!

The fact that they are even considering this is pretty much proof that they must see the current free agent and trade market for established first basemen as downright terrible. And looking at the names out there, it's hard to disagree.

Rosario can likely play all 3 OF spots, in addition to possibly 2B. If he can play a passable 1B, that LH stick would be a boon to this lineup.

Right now, Dan Vogelbach currently holds the #1 spot on the 1B depth chart. I've been assured by several here (including you I believe) that his defense at 1B would be terrible. I would assume that if they are serious about signing Rosario, and converting him to 1B, that either they are confident that his athleticism would allow him to make the switch rather easily, or that many of us, as fans, tend to dwell on the value of defense at 1B much more than we probably should.

If the front office thinks he can play there, and he's up for it, I'm willing to give it a chance. It worked pretty well moving Moustakas to second base. I would like to also grab a Gyorko or Cabrera to help at 3rd and provide a little insurance at 1st, but if Rosario doesn't work out well there, he'd still be a good platoon partner with Garcia in the outfield (and provide days off for Yelich and Cain and maybe even Hiura at 2nd) and while that would be a pricey platoon, that would still be a valuable use of him to the team.

Absolutely! It's as much a part of being a Brewers fan as Secret Stadium sauce belonging on brats!

Seriously, I took RRB's comment with thick dose of blue font. I get the skepticism and every Yuni Betancourt inning played there justifies it (along with others both before & after).

In the end, I'm up for whatever impactful moves can make us a better team. I'm not convinced Rosario at 1B is our best play, but it may be that it's our best option. Regardless, without getting into what position he'd play, adding him would improve the roster.

It sure seems an Eddie Rosario addition is ripe for one of clancyphile's wonderfully creative if impractical lineups with several guys playing positions they may have never played before.

Jon Becker does have a fairly well established record on Twitter, I don't think he's pulling things out of mid-air.

Here's his Tweet:

Source: Eddie Rosario is expected to sign in the coming days, perhaps as soon as today.

The Brewers' interest is predicated on Rosario playing 1B, with the Dodgers and Atlanta also interested in the lefty OF. The Giants are no longer believed to be in the running.

And his follow-up Tweet:

Cleveland is also interested in Rosario, source says.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

I'm not a scout and this was a long time ago so I'm not sure how much this adds to the conversation, but I got a chance to see Rosario play a few games at 2B (granted he was just 20 years old at the time). He looked like the best and most athletic infielder on the diamond every time I saw him play. At the time he was a far better defender than teammate Miguel Sano.

I am hopeful that he would be an adequate first baseman defensively, but would prefer it was more of a rotation getting him innings in the outfield also as MrAllen suggests.

Don't like our chances vs these teams someone will pay him more than us .
