Report: Rodgers wants new contract (Update: May not want to return in 2021)

SeaBass
Adams will almost certainly be gone after '21 as well. The cold reality is we are looking at a rebuild in '22. We can only hope, if Love is the real deal, that it is only a soft rebuild. If he isn't, there are some painful years ahead until we find our franchise QB.

Honestly, this has been the case since about the day after Rodgers signed his last extension several years ago - the only change is we've all learned that Rodgers probably won't invite Gute to his wedding (along with his family).

And the same was said at the end of Favre's run, really that rebuild was just letting their new starting QB get his feet wet and they were back to being a perennial playoff team ever since. In the NFL, rebuilding basically means you don't have a Pro Bowl-caliber QB and are hoping to get one ASAP....we won't know what Love is until he gets regular season snaps, so it's not worth wondering how bad a Packer team without ARod will be until that day comes.

I could see Cobb coming back at a vet's minimum, if the Texans release him. He is being paid as an average #1 receiver. Regarding Adams, the interesting question with Adams is how much does he have left after this year? Even though the Cardinals gave Hopkins a lot of money, they may have been smart doing it on a short-term deal. Most receivers decline fairly quickly once they reach their thirties.

What if the new rumored restructured deal is because the Packers may hold on to Rodgers for this season and the next? Dropping the last year makes a bit of sense then to appease Rodgers, then he gets to enter free agency the same way Brady did.

Yes keeping Rodgers for 2 more seasons messes up the Jordan Love situation but the Packers are well past having to swallow the blame for that one.

So this Randall Cobb thing has legs?

I mean, it makes some sense from a chemistry standpoint. Cobb has brother-esque connections to both our Rodgerses, so that all adds up. But the idea that the move was a prerequisite to 12’s return seems silly—and to be clear, it’s a silly thing to ask for, though I can see 12 making this demand. Cobb wasn’t really all that special by the time he left years ago, and Amari Rodgers has a chance to be as good, if not better, than he was anyway. Maybe having Cobb in the locker room and at practice for a year or two makes Amari better, but maybe Cobb taking some of his snaps slows his development, too.

Also, I am already sick of the “Last Dance” narrative, and this Cobb thing only fuels it. Rodgers has been a meme lord all off-season, and the media has been all too happy to oblige, since that’s what a very active subset of online fans like, apparently. But Rodgers’ end game has to be a documentary. He wants his own 30 for 30 so hard he can taste Jordan’s cigar smoke. Maybe he should win another ring or two before he merits the red carpet treatment. Until then, he can always hold Woodley’s handbag at her premieres.

Odd that his initiation of all this crap at the NFCCG post-game presser was a concern that he wouldn't be back and that he wanted to retire with the Packers and now just before training camp it's a negotiated peace with Rodgers getting out of his contract 1 year earlier...

Yeah clearly he started all of this to make sure he could stay, but since the Packers didn't respond to his second request to have a major leader fired he now wants out... Good, hope we can trade him for a good haul next spring.

Cobb? Really? Can they just pay him as a coach and not waste a roster space on him? I would much rather they get Amari and Degura touches way before a washed up Randall Cobb, but hey I guess Lord Aaron thinks he's not only the greatest GM never to be a GM, but also the greatest Head Coach...

Tough to imagine any scenario in which Rodgers returns to the Packers in '22. If they go on to win the Super Bowl they accomplished what he wanted and he moves on. If they lose the NFC Championship then we've all seen that story before and it's the last straw and he moves on. If 2021 is a disaster season he definitely moves on.

The only possibility I could possibly see of a '22 return, and this is highly remote: Packers have an amazing year, win the Super Bowl, Adams is either signed or tagged and Rodgers and Adams want to try to run it back one more time in '22. That's about the only way I can see.

I’m so sick of this entire thing. The biggest temper tantrums and cry babies in this situation are Rodgers apologists.

Fixed it for you. I can only assume these people are clearing out room in their closet next to that Favre Jets jersey that they’re too embarrassed to take to Goodwill.

Rodgers first few interviews with the GB media should be interesting. He should start with, “ Look, I’m a jerk for some of this offseason commotion and the media really blew this up to where it shouldn’t have been.” Some humility would help the fan base let this go somewhat. Yet, I expect a wry smile and pompous half answers to legitimate questions on the offseason mess. He is smarter than us hicks up here, ya know. He won and hosted Jeopardy.

This is going to end badly.

Not sure how. I think GB made out pretty good. They get one more year of Rodgers, can still trade him after the season, can keep him another year after that (doubtful), get another year to see how Love has progressed, got some cap relief....doesn't seem too bad to me. I think the only way this ends badly is if Rodgers tanks the season on purpose and as petty and grudge-filled as he is, he also has an ego and a concern for his numbers and legacy so the odds of that are minuscule.

This is going to end badly.

Please define "badly"

I, for one, am happy that there is now a logical endpoint to all this crap.

It could end very badly. Like, disappointing 8-8 season, terrible clubhouse chemistry, constant internal strife and distractions, Rodgers booed frequently on his home field, mockery from opposing teams and fans, etc.

Or it could be a non-issue the whole season. I really don't know. But I wouldn't assume that everything is great now.

I mean, of course. But all that could theoretically happen had there been no "drama" this offseason. Maybe not the "Rodgers booed" part, but pretty much everything else.

Nah, it is obvious that there is some internal strife. But I also expect Rodgers to have a pretty big chip on his shoulder, and try to play out of his mind this year as a result.

I think players understand the business side of football much better than the fans. I don't think any player on that roster will care about the offseason. At the end of the day, he missed mini camp.

This cloud of uncertainty will be hanging over them all year along with the media circus that that follows it. Anything less than a Super Bowl will result in more finger pointing.
