No, but it was unnecessary and a departure from the way he normally carries himself.

So if you didn't think what he said was unprofessional, how has he otherwise missed the bar of professionalism expected of a team president?

Just trying to understand the reasoning for those that are viewing him so negatively right now....

He’s just an easy punching bag. TT and MM are no longer here (RIP, Ted) and Murphy has been the only constant in the organization during this decade of futility (besides Rodgers).

It is interesting the different standards that the fans hold guys to- Thompson couldn't draft, etc. in his last years here, but we ignore Ron Wolf's draft struggles (and similar futility following his SB win, including a disaster of a coaching hire in Rhodes and picking Sherman as his GM successor). Mark Murphy is considered unprofessional despite a very successful new GM/coaching hire (thus far) and a SB win, but Bob Harlan's 11 'years of futility' after the XXI win aren't scrutinized and a plaza is named after him at Lambeau.

I saw the suggestion maybe he did it to just troll the Packers. That seems far fetched (he didn’t), but this thing is such a circus and Murphy is so annoying I hope he hops on a plane to Green Bay for the day of training camp just to not show up. Maybe have his equipment duffel bag, eat breakfast by the stadium, drive past the player entrance, and then go golfing before hopping on a plane back out of town. That would be kinda funny.

I’m a little perplexed at the apparent belief here that what Murphy did was annoying but that nothing Aaron has done is…..

That’s not what I was saying at all. If you are referring I am saying that…no, I am not.

Then I do apologize. I read it as 'Murphy has been so annoying, I hope Rodgers sticks it to him', which I interpreted as ignoring how annoying Rodgers' behavior has been. Again, I apologize if my interpretation was incorrect.

Again, though, I'd question whether 'complicated fella' rises to a level of "annoying"....

Decade of futility? When did that happen?

I was more referring to the entire situation in general. It is such a joke I almost want the most comical next chapter in the story possible. I see how you would take that the wrong way as I only mentioned Murphy. I have never been a Murphy fan though and his constant mentions to the situation is kind of annoying to me. Rodgers is pretty annoying himself with the cryptic stuff every once in awhile.

At this point any time I see something related to Rodgers and the Packers all I can do is laugh...the whole thing is dumb and its just a media circus.

12s legacy of being a me first player happens by sitting out with a great team built purposefully around him. The kicker is that I feel 100% of his teammates view him the opposite way, being a team first guy. Yet, if he misses A GAME this season, the staring contest will cost him.

If Aaron Rodgers wants to sit out the season he can do so and retain his entire, approx. $20mil, signing bonus. Problem is he would have to make the decision by July 2nd. It was previously thought that he wouldn't be able to utilize the COVID opt out because he played last year, however, now it appears the NFL/NFLPA agreement will let anyone with no questions asked.

I don't think Rodgers would go this route....but it is a juicy plot twist for the next week or so.

I'm not necessarily sure that changes much, though. If he sits out, the Packers would still control him for two MORE seasons. It's not like he's in the last year of his contract and potentially willing to ride it out.... if the Packers dig in and are willing to let him sit out, they could do so for three seasons, effectively ending his career.

True. That'd be a waste of a resource though. If he is gonna sit out this year, then they need to trade him. That has always been the tipping point for me. Up until now, we know there's some kind of kerfluffle with upper management and that he sat out mini camp but that's about it. I am more than willing to take him back this year if he wants to play. In fact, I really want him to play. But if he wants to sit out the season? Then see ya.

At Rodgers' age, it's really hard to see him being willing to sit out a season. He only has so many more left in him.

But then - he's a complicated fella - so you never know. He's known to be a world-class grudge holder, so maybe he'll just opt out for the year, take his $20M and go enjoy life without any distractions for the next seven months.

If Rodgers really wants to play in 2021, I just don't see it anywhere else but Green Bay.

I guess we could trade him, but you'd have to get an absolute haul of assets - both draft picks and players. I realize it only takes one team to take the bait - but there are only so many clubs that want/need Rodgers at this point, have the players/picks we'd want, and aren't a threat to the Packers in the NFC (such as the 49ers). The Packers would just keel over if Rodgers led another club to the Super Bowl - especially if that run went through GB. That makes the NFC a lot less of an option. Not impossible - but less likely.

Ultimately, I think that means Rodgers comes back and plays for the Packers - assuming he wants to play this year. It's a good team. He'd have a chance to win it all. Can't beat that. He'd just have to endure working for Murphy another year. I'm sure Rodgers would find a way to be a pain to the front office (but not to coaches or teammates).

In the end, if Rodgers holds out or opts out or whatever, the Packers can still make a deal next off season - saying, "Hey, we did all we could. He had a contract. We offered to amend the contract. We did [insert items] to make him more comfortable in GB. But Aaron insists on not playing for the Green Bay Packers. We can't change that. So, now it's time to move on."

I don't think Rodgers is as valuable next off season. The year away and his increasing age probably just chip away at his value - even a little. However, you do have more potential teams in the mix for him. He'd still be worth a lot.

I hope he plays for GB and sucks. Getting benched would be the cherry on top.

No. Why would you want this unless you are a Bears or Vikings fan.

I will never understand fans wishing for a player on their team to suck and for some reason this seems really popular for Wisconsin sports.

It goes to the belief that we would rather play and lose with guys that want to be here/proud to be Packers than win with a bunch of pompous jerks. I get that to an extent.

I don't know about anyone else but I have a finite number of years left. Being a WI sports fan is tough enough as it is. I have no wish for my teams to suck so some guy gets it stuck to him. I wanna see a championship. I don't have time to be petty.

Quoted for truth. I'm in my last 365 days of my 30s. :embarrassed

I remember driving to the bar with a buddy after Super Bowl 45 and telling him we should savor every bit of that day because we didn't know when it would happen again in our lifetimes.
