Report: Rodgers wants new contract (Update: May not want to return in 2021)

SeaBass
I can't blame him. You have yet to commit to him financially past this season (cap hit dramatically decreases after this coming season), you drafted his replacement and you spent last years draft building for the future rather than getting him help for this past season even though he was coming off of an appearance in the NFC championship game.

I think this is it. It' snot so much that they should've drafted him more weapons, didn't put a good team around him, tec. It's that they chose to trade up to draft his replacement. The guy didn't just fall to them. He knows he becomes cuttable/tradeable after 2021 so he sees that as definitely something they might be planning on doing and would like control on that, especially having an MVP season. If they're being touch on contracts/guarantees I can't blame him at all for wanting a commitment.

Drafting Love was a horrible decision and might've led to all this. Huge mistake unless he somehow turns out to be very good himself, which could happen, but no way I push out my MVP QB over this maybe.

and note, you have to take this whole report with a grain of salt. Of course could be true, but clickbait to a T.

Hard to blame a guy when he’s arguably the best quarterback of all time and the organization has done little to nothing in the last 10 years to help him or show they are going all in. The Packers have arguably had a shady defense since 2011, with either having poor corners or awful linebackers. The Packers have finally done something about their corners in recent years, but have had a massive black hole at linebacker for essentially a decade outside of Matthews.

The Packers haven’t taken a WR, RB, or TE in the first round since Javon Walker in 2002. They’ve essentially shown Rodgers his entire career to shut up and deal with what we give you. In fact, I thought I remember an article a couple years ago about Murphy or Gutekunst basically telling Rodgers to shut up.

When the wide receiving core was bad, it wasn’t addressed. When the CB’s sucked, it took almost 7 years to fix it. When the LB’s sucked, well, they still do :laughing And it’s been a decade.

Oh, and when he started showing a little frustration, the Packers decided to trade up and draft a quarterback. When it was obvious at the time the Packers needed WR help. All of this after Rodgers, who was 36, said he’s playing into his 40’s. So at least 5 more seasons.

Murphy, Thompson, and Gutekunst dug their own graves. While digging one for Rodgers hoping he would just lie down in it and shut up. Rodgers has finally had enough.

They have one of the best offenses in the league, one of the best coaches in the league, extended Bahktiari, extended Jones, have made the NFC title game the last two seasons and THAT isn't good enough for Rodgers? Don't let the door hit you on the way out. Enjoy Oakland.

I don’t know if I fully buy all this yet. Part of me is still under the impression I had during the McCarthy years, where Rodgers was clearly more critical of things than he let on in public, but not nearly as much as the media seemed to suggest (especially the tabloid rags like pro football talk, etc). However, I could see this being true, and I think the team should definitely listen, but for an absolute king’s ransom. You want a ticket to the Conference championship? Pony up.

That said, I would absolutely hate seeing him in San Francisco or New England. I’d take a divisional trade over that outcome. It would take 1st round picks for the next decade to make me feel good about either of those scenarios.

That would REALLY be a kick in the pants if they traded him to Oakland since they don't even have a team anymore :)

Trey Wingo is saying the Packers told Rodgers they were going to trade him this offseason and then backed off.

If that's true, then the front office has really screwed this up royally.

Huge, if true. That’s...hard to believe, though.

Yeah that seems really far fetched

Sources everywhere! Now there's a rumor Rodgers said Broncos, Niners, or Raiders

This is exceptionally hard to believe. They know what the cap hit is. They spent all off season bringing back all of their team from last year to make another run at it - I don't think they did this thinking they'll have Love starting at QB.

This whole article could have been drummed up based on Rodgers telling a random staffer off the cuff while taping Jeopardy that "it would be cool playing the last few years of my career in my home state of CA, so I could live closer to my fiance' and keep taping Jeopardy"

As for the Packers not being financially committed to Rodgers past 2021...so freaking what? It's not like he's playing out his rookie deal - he's currently in the last guaranteed contract year of his THIRD extension and 4th total contract with the Packers.

I just don't buy it - Rodgers seems like an intelligent enough guy who never has to look hard for a camera or beat writer to get in front of that if he really wanted out of Green Bay because of contract/personnel decisions, we would hear it directly from him or his direct representation. Not conspicuous "league and team sources" that could just be speculating themselves based on all the run his recent game show hosting gig had on ESPN the last few weeks.

ESPN and Aaron Rodgers have agreed to a $5M pre-draft deal in which the star QB has agreed to make a few tweets in order to hype up the drama surrounding the draft. In return, ESPN will gain millions more viewers. ESPN has also announced that 150 articles and every sportscaster on their roster is standing by to annoy fans from now until the season finally starts.

I’m with you there. Money was pushed out to extend this team’s window. Plus, Aaron Jones received a second contract that defied conventional wisdom and cost them a future comp pick.

It could be that they never talked to Aaron until they made all those moves.

I mean...that's possible, yes. The incompetency of that would be completely mind-blowing.

How much would Seattle have to add to their side for a Rodgers for Wilson deal to work for Gute? Does it just boil down to how much Gute hates Rodgers right now?

I’m still not sure I buy all this, but the humor of the two franchises dealing with their disgruntled QBs like this tickles me.

I don’t think they could absorb Rodgers’ dead money hit from the trade and Wilson’s current salary.

I believe that was Murphy, but I also believe that was 'reported' in that horrendous BR article that basically got retracted.

Help me understand how ZaDarius Smith, Preston Smith, and Rashan Gary "suck".

First of all, let me preface what I'm about to say by saying IMO Rodgers is just posturing and is not going anywhere.

That being said, if this is true I don't blame the guy at all for wanting out. No surefire first ballot Hall of Famer has been less appreciated by their organization that Rodgers has by the Packers. Every opportunity the team has had to (tick) him off, they have taken. It's no wonder why Rodgers has only one championship. If he has in fact played his last game as a Packer, be ready for a return to the 70s and 80s for the unforeseeable future.
