Report: Rodgers wants new contract (Update: May not want to return in 2021)

SeaBass

I've seen a few freeze frames on that play where he could of ran, and no doubt he probably would of got ran down by one their speedy LBs. You're right. But this is AR, the king of pump fakes and running for extra yards with more his brains than his legs. I bet with a classic AR pump fake he could of got in, or got pretty damn close which would of made the decision to go for it that much easier on 4th down the next play. He had a great one for a TD against the Rams the week before, bragged about it on AR Tuesday the following week, he was playing with mad swag I would of thought he'd go for it and run there.

I still feel that game was lost on the TD to end the half, that killed everyone. It made me think of of the Seattle game. I'm sure that thought crept into his mind. Offense had their chances 2nd half too after all those INTs and they did nothing with the ball. They got too one dimensional got away from the run and balanced approach and tried to force it to Adams too many times. They had their chances to win despite all the things that went wrong. Still stings. Not as much as Seattle though for me man that one was so depressing but this was close. Still gets me mad when I think about it haha :)

There is literally zero chance he runs in for a TD. If he would have never looked Devante’s way he probably get somewhat close..but mind you that is if he makes it his mission the second pressure comes to just run. That’s just not realistic and especially not at his age.

The reason he would never had gotten close is because there was a lineman (#93) dead on his tail. Not only that but the lineman was farther to the direction Rodgers would have ran. If Rodgers would have ran one of the CBs would have pulled off to cause Rodgers to go more horizontal towards the end zone than directly towards it. In the case #93 would have absolutely destroyed Rodgers from behind. Rodgers probably would not be expecting such a hit and the ball would have gone to the turf.

Even just a pump fake to Adam’s would have slowed him down way too much and the lineman would have gotten him.

Well, he slows down to pass. He gets a step or two if he just commits to run. Then it’s close.... probably needs to bust a move. However, to my point, I think at 27 he runs that in because he would have commit to run earlier and because he was fast.

Do people wish Rodgers ran to the three yard line because MLF said he would have went for it then? I can't recall.

If you are Rodgers and think 4th down will be a thing regardless it makes complete sense to take a shot at a throw instead of getting to the three yard line. Once you get that close to the endzone it is almost better to be on the ten instead of the three. Being on the three yard line doesn't really open up the play book because you aren't going to run it from that far away. You have such little space to work with and there isn't much space for receivers to get open.

No, being on the 10 is way way worse than being on the 3. The window you need to fit a pass in from 3 yards out is pretty small compared to at 10 yards out and a QB run from 3 yards out is always an option. In fact if there's any spot where it's most difficult to gain 10 yards it's from the 10 yard line because the endzone endline works as an extra safety over the top.

And if I recall correctly, GB was at elite level in that close to the end zone situation. Just think how ridiculous Adams/Rodgers were in those spots all year mostly due to Adams' elite quickness/shiftiness. Granted they botched one earlier in that game, I think an Adams drop, but they were lights out in those situations and had an array of designed plays exactly for it.

I'd strongly prefer to be on the 3. Also need to add in that when it's only 3 Rodgers can easily run if needed, 10 not so much.

I'm firmly in the camp he wouldn't have gotten in if he ran on 3rd down as that LB would've got him, barring a ridiculous lucky juke or something. But yea I think if he runs they're then close enough to make going for it a no brainer decision instead of the gray area they were left in.

What about what some nba teams do and try to take some long out picks to hope for a higher pick. Basically, try to get one or two later down the line when Rodgers will theoretically be done and Denver is bad. Not worth it to delay years in NFL since the difference between top 5ish and top 20ish isn't as drastic as it is in the NBA?

I mean I'm sorry but if Denver offers this I would be accepting immediately.

Would take it as is but would prefer to get Bridgewater over Lock. Have always been a Teddy fan.

IMO If you're getting 3 first rounders from Denver, anything other than just taking their next 3 first rounders would be overthinking it. There's no way to tell what happens in the future, Rodgers could severely decline or just revert to '18/'19 form. Denver could have some tough breaks and just finish 8-8 especially in that division. Who knows.

NBA trades of picks are often a little different, picks are commonly protected to ensure they don't actually convey until they're near a certain part of a round.

I look at that deal and I'm like "Why does GB have to include a 4th round pick? If they don't does that mean they don't get Dalton Risner?"

It just depends on how much you believe in Drew Lock as a prospect. If you like Lock then you get a year to see if he is your future, and if he's not then you get another year of development from Love.

Bridgewater you know what you've got but he probably makes you more competitive in '21, then presumably Love is ready and if he's not the guy you have numerous 1st round picks to find your next guy.

Both make sense for different reasons. I'd personally opt for Lock and get as many stabs at our future franchise QB as I can get.

Lock might suck, but he might not. I think he's got a higher potential ceiling than Teddy B. Maybe he doesn't reach it, but in Lafleur's offense, he's got a chance.

His numbers haven't been great, but he's definitely got upside. Hasn't had a ton around him in Denver especially with Sutton's injuries, and he was thrown into the fire pretty quickly.

He wasn’t going to get in, but maybe the 3-yard line. But he was also something like 1-10 in the red zone in the game. I still stand by LaFleur’s decision from that yard line as it would have set them up to win with the fewest necessary things going their way.

Scenarios:

-kick FG, nearly 3 minutes to hold Patriots, then drive and score

-Go for TD and don’t get it, then you have 3 minutes to get a stop (albeit deep in their territory), drive for TD, go to OT, win coin toss, score a TD (or potentially give then chance to win)

-go for TD, get it. Now stop them with under 3 minutes, win coin toss, drive down and get TD in OT

Both decisions sucked and either left us a small chance of winning the game.

The far more impactful decision would have been to not call cover freaking 1 right before halftime and leave the corners on an island on the outside with the Bucs having no timeouts left.

Your third scenario forces them to go to overtime, why? If they stop the Patriots why can't they 'drive and score' to win the game in regulation? Not to mention all Rodgers would need then is a field goal. Why are they forced to win the coin toss? Way to make that scenario seem more complicated than kicking the field goal when it is not.

If you are forced to eventually get a TD in regulation most coaches would logically take their chance at the 10 yard line, especially when they are down 7 or less in that situation. You are still down one score if you miss. How can one be so confident in Rodgers MAYBE getting to ball back with 1:45 left and going all the way down the field against a Bucs defense with zero timeouts remaining yet they don't trust Rodgers to get 10 yards for a TD? Kicking the field goal first is putting trust in your defense to make a miracle stop and then turning around to have your defense have a miracle drive.

Scoring the touchdown on 4th was a very reasonable outcome and then all you would need is the defense to not give up a field goal to at least extend the game. Neither of those things would have been that crazy to have happen. But stopping Brady, essentially on three downs, and then mounting a massive offensive drive...that seems a bit more pie in the sky.

I don't care about how many steps it takes...what is the most likely and best chance of victory. I can't say kicking the field goal was the best of options for that.

You're going nowhere with Bridgewater. All you need to know is Carolina traded him for a 6th round pick and prefers Sam Darnold. Darnold and Lock are pretty much the same guy and Lock is still on a rookie deal. Bridgewater's ceiling is starting QB on a bad team or quality backup on a team that can afford to invest a lot in a backup. Lock's got upside and you let the winner of he and Love be your guy.

Yeah if you want to point to one play that lost the game, that is the one right there.
