TURBO

Something I would love to see, and yes this is my card hatred talking, is to see teams intentionally break the unwritten rules against the cards. Goad them into more of this stuff. Eventually fighting those battles will cost them.

That would be fun but how about opposing players and coaches simply calling them out on it? Castellanos licking Yadi's boots to the press after the game was beyond weak. All you have to do is point out that the Cards and Yadi specifically are involved in by far the most bench clearing incidents every year. MLB has constantly said they want to crack down on beanball wars and especially benches clearing now because of COVID. How about they give a real punishment to the biggest instigators in all this? Suspend Molina 10 games, 20 games. And any player that leaves the dugout or bullpen or charges the mound gets the same. MLB needs to grow a pair and do something about this. Especially serial turds like Yadier Molina.

Is it safe to make a guess that the White Sox will be joining this list? LaRussa is the king of the retaliation.

Probably at some point. In the book "Three Nights is August" Tony says one of the hardest things about being a manager is figuring out if and when you retaliate after one of your guys gets hit.

Since the thread was locked I'll just put it here, sportscenter reporting Denver gets the all-star game this year.

That is dumb. They should of just moved it to a non MLB city or to a AAA city it is the least MLB could have done after killing MILB this off season.

From the blurb I had read about the Denver selection is they were due to get an AS game in the near future and had already been making preliminary preparations for it. So from that standpoint it made sense.

Here's the actual blurb from mlb.com:

MLB chose the Rockies because they were already in the bidding process to host a future All-Star Game. The Rockies had supplied a detailed plan for hotel, event space and security that took months to assemble, and MLB staff had already made several site visits to Denver. In addition, Governor Jared Polis and Mayor Michael Hancock have both committed to provide the necessary facilities and services needed to support this year’s festivities.

Yankees acquired Rougned Odor. You have to imagine he is mildly annoyed by their absolutely strange no facial hair policy

What if he refuses to shave?

I've always wondered about this. It has to be inevitable that they trade for a player and said player flat out refuses to shave...and when that day comes I will be very interested to see how it plays out...especially if it's a good player like Justin Turner. It's one thing if you're choosing to sign a contract with the Yankees...you know very well what you're signing up for, quite another getting traded to them.

I am speculating that it was discussed with Odor prior to the trade. I recall reading about Brian Wilson being a potential target and then removed from consideration as he stated that the beard stays.

Either that or NYY/Hal has decided George has been dead long enough?

Which proves what an utterly asinine "rule" it is. To pass on an opportunity to improve the club over some guy's hair preferences. I can't believe Yankees fans defend it when it periodically becomes an issue.

If I had a big old beard, and was offered millions of dollars to play baseball if I shaved it, I'd shave it.

Wouldn't even consider otherwise.

Nothing wrong with teams having rules, and actually following through on those rules.

If someone wants to get paid to play baseball, and are asked to follow simple rules to do so, it isn't that ridiculous to do what your future employer asks.

If that is an issue with you, then you look for other employment opportunities.

Quite simple really.

I believe the Yankees have made exceptions in the past. I believe Gossage was able to keep his mustache and I think their was one more but can't remember who.

Also if you watched the MLB special on Griffey Jr. he wouldn't sign with the Yankees because of how they treated his dad and he had a no trade clause that he wouldn't waive either. I believe Bonds also had the same issue with the Yankees and a lot of other teams also.

Mustaches on Yankees players was pretty common back in the day. To this day Reggie Jackson looks odd to me without one. Don Mattingly had a nice stache as well. Billy Martin. The mustache only style just isn't as common today as it was back then, maybe it will make a comeback.

He had other employment opportunities. The Yankees traded for him.

But sure, you probably shouldn't give up millions over a beard. I think the larger point is that it's an antiquated and ridiculous rule in the first place. It's Baseball. Don Mattingly wore his hair too long...so they changed the rule. Showing just how arbitrary it was in the first place.

They're the Yankees. It is funny just how seriously they take themselves...but it's nonsense.

I work for UPS and we just relaxed the beard/visible tattoo policy and now (at least to me) many of the drivers look as homeless and unprofessional as the Amazon drivers. :) We have literally always paid almost twice what Amazon paid its drivers so we were always able to get drivers who were happy to conform with the beard/tattoo policy but with the last contract a new much lower paid driver position was created and to recruit people into that they had to remove the policies for everyone.

You are seeing it everyplace.

I worked at a box store for a 2 year stretch during college.

Tattoos, piercings, etc were not allowed. period.

If you had them, you didn't get hired from the get-go.

It has probably gotten to the point of not having a hiring pool if those rules were still followed, so you see what you have now in the work force.

There was a time when you told high school kids that if you want to get hired for good paying jobs, don't have visible tattoos. (hands, wrists, necks, etc)

That is no longer the case as it seems harder to find people without tats than with them.

It's what happens when society no longer has rules in place because the people who are supposed to follow them no longer care.

Business continues to bend even lower because they feel they have to if they want employees.

I wonder if the pendulum will ever swing back to a more conservative look, but I doubt it.

Tats, piercings, oddly colored hair, long shaggy beards and hair seem to be entrenched with today's younger work force.

I don't see that changing.

I feel like Gyorko definitely had MLB offers so he must have just wanted to coach/manage. Definitely adds context as to why we didn’t sign him.
I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

Baseball has a brand new Super Star. Trout's time is over.

Seen this in a twitter comment, lets just leave you with the highlight and a page that breaks this down.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/ftw.usatoday.com/2021/04/braves-ronald-acuna-jr-speed-on-grounder-fans-in-awe/amp

And he has hit a 456ft bomb to go along with at least 3 other HRs. 2 off Scherzer.

Not to mention this play after a triple.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/watch-braves-ronald-acuna-jr-scores-from-third-on-a-pop-up-to-second-baseman/amp/

Seen another highlight of him throwing Bryce Harper out at 2nd on what seemed would be a double. Another highlight racing back to warning track leap and snag a ball destined to hit the wall for a double. We're 10/11 games in to this season.
