Tuesday's game against the Royals has been bumped up to 3:10 so as not to interfere with the Bucks game and hopefully their coronation.

EDIT: Then again, baseball games take so long maybe they should've bumped it up to 1:10

Dumb question, but if we win the division as the 2 seed, do we automatically get the 3 seed, presumably the East winner? That's potentially a far better matchup than the wild card winner, which could put us in the weird position of NOT wanting to win the top overall seed.

Yes, they tossed the rule about not playing division teams in the first round a while back. Assuming the WC game is the 2nd and 3rd from the West, the winner of that will play the West champ.

Unless of course we finish with the best record, in which case we'd play the play-in winner.

This is one of the reasons I think this is the best shot we've had. The way it's shaping up we will only have to play one West team, and with a stroke of luck it could end up that the Dodgers lose the play-in, and we potentially still get home field in the NLCS.

In other words, the Bucks, Brewers and Packers will all win championships this year. :)

Mets have made 4 errors in the first 2 innings and have gift wrapped the Reds a 7-3 lead.

Reds bullpen has coughed it up, now 9-8 Mets top of the eighth.

Best part of this game is Gary Cohen talking about Skyline chili.

God, just years and years of Pittsburgh futility. There was a time maybe 4-5 years ago when it seemed they were on cusp but then they tanked. Terrible franchise.

Crazy to think McCutchen was a Top 5 MVP finisher for four straight years and then had a Christian Yelich style implosion at 29.

Between that and getting nothing useful for Gerritt Cole was not a good start to getting back on track.

[sarcasm]I also loved the foresight of Counsell to know that we could afford to get swept in that 5-game series right before the all-star break in 2018 and still win the division[/sarcasm]. That gave the Pirates a glimmer of hope that resulted in them trading Glasnow and Meadows for Chris Archer.

This is a really good point, and a clear case where missteps by management clearly harmed/shortened any competitive window the Pirates had. Another reason to be so happy with the people in charge of the Brewers right now.

And Shane Baz who should be up sooner than later. Meadows and Baz alone would have been more than enough for Archer.

I wouldn't call it mismanagement, they definitely had some poor luck. During their competitive window between 2013-2015 they won 280 games yet never finished better than 2nd place. With McCutcheon they were able to move almost all of his salary (12.25 of 14.75), and got an All Star player in return with Bryan Reynolds, and they timed it out fantastically as McCutcheon put up an .849 OPS in his last season with the Pirates and hasn't matched that number since.

Jung Ho Kang was a fantastic player for the Pirates until his legal/visa troubles in Korea resulted in him missing nearly two who seasons of his prime. Same deal with Felipe Vazquez an All Star talent whose criminal proceedings ended his career overnight.

They may have traded Cole too early but not a total bust of a trade. With Archer he was the best player in that deal at the time. You can't really fault them for a trade where they got the best player who suffered significant injuries after the trade.

If not for the Vazquez stuff, and the fist fights amongst the team Huntington would probably still be there; he did a fantastic job for a team whose payroll never topped 95 million.
