I can't overstate how bad the defensive playcall before half was. It blew 4th and 26 out of the water. It was inexplicable for any coordinator beyond the high school level let alone a professional.

The irony is that Mike Pettine finally found a situation where he should have used his precious prevent defense and failed to do so.

Yeah, one play doesn’t get you fired but this ones as close as it gets.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

One play got Ed Donatell fired. And it (allegedly) wasn't even his play.

MLF is gonna, rightfully, get roasted for not going for it on 4th

Idiotic, and I don't care what chart he has that says otherwise.

Even if the Packers miss they are counting on a stop and then scoring 8 points. If they make it they are counting on a stop and touchdown, likely going 90 yards in 1:35 with no timeouts.

Situationally, it made no sense either, taking those odds against that defense.

Atrocious call. Just atrocious. I was shocked to see Crosby come out on the field.

Anyone else think Patrick Queen would have been good for one extra stop today?

No...Queen was AWFUL this year. If you're going to go with the LB'er route, Brooks in Seattle was better than Queen.

Like...Queen was literally one of the worst Off-ball LB'ers in the entire NFL. I don't know what he'd have done for us that...Ty Summers couldn't do, much less Barnes, Kirksey or Martin.

And even Brooks was worse than our LB'ers this year(though they do offer more upside, none of them would have made us better.

Pettine NOT using the prevent at the end of the half was almost like him saying, “okay, they know I’m gonna throw the prevent out there. So let’s call a time out and then confuse them with something different! They won’t expect that. It’s gonna work!”

Ugh.

Either that or the fix was in and this was just a part of it...

If they don't get it there...the Buccs have the ball at their own 8(assuming we gain no yards)...and they're probably less likely to try and throw the ball.

I think that was MLF just choking in the big game. His first real big game where he had to make an influential call. That was ridiculous.

I don't agree with people on the 2 point, that was fine by me...kicking a FG down 9 with 2:09 to go and giving the ball back to Tom Brady needing to stop him AND still score a TD...that's a historically bad call. In fact...can someone come up with a worse call in Packers history? Literally...I could not believe Crosby was coming onto the field.

Hopefully today is what we see from MVS all next season

Same thing got the Jets DC fired for the one play.

There is just too much talent on this defense for them to be so up and down. Todd Bowles just OWNED Mike Pettine.

He's a terrible DC. The ONE good thing to come out of this game is that he'll be gone. I know Capers wasn't popular, but when he played man across the field, he AT LEAST sent extra rushers and didn't just man up 5 guys, drop his LB'ers into hook zones(Which covers like 3 yards for them).

I don't see how you do worse than Pettine...with the exception of Gregg Williams who I called for earlier this year because I liked his aggressive style, but his arrogance has made that suggestion look foolish.

MLF lost this game in the 4th qtr. 2 TOs down 5 and you come out with passes and passes. AJ Dillon makes a great catch, carries TB defenders 6yds. The guy"drafted" to win you games in Lambeau 4th qtr. Never on the field both those 3 and out drives. You know why the passing game went stale right there? Because there was no threat of running the ball. Finally last drive 1st down run with Dillon 9yards carrying White Again on the tackle. Whatcha going do MLF? Put the kid back in your pocket and pass pass pass.

18games coached this year. I feel MLF only won 3 or 4 2nd halfs this season. My god 4th qtr at home down 5 and complete whiff on taking over the game running over what should have been a tired defense.

I hate Pettine but it will take some cajones to ax a DC on a 13-3 team that looked pretty good defensively for the final 1/3...and basically have up a field goal in the second half and forced 3 picks.

The reason it could happen is that he's a holdover, but I will still be surprised if it does.

On another note. I don't want to see the Packers EVER draft another Iowa defensive back.

????? How on Earth are you using THIS as a time to pick on Jackson? They don't give him a chance. He's a talented Corner who Pettine apparently doesn't like(which right there makes me think he's alright) who in VERY limited playing time was in position this year....but he did struggle to get his head around and panicked about. But that'll happen when you don't get regular snaps.

Desmond King came out the year before him and has been a multiple-time All-Pro.

I mean...I really don't think THAT mattered. The only guy I think would have REALLY made a difference would have been someone like Shenault Jr.

Yeah I don't really have an opinion about the pick one way or the other. As shown by Rodgers it's always best to get your QB earlier than you need to. Just blowing off some steam with a wisecrack lol.

MLF lost us THIS game(or at least didn't give us a chance to win it).

But to say he only won 3-4 half this year? I don't agree with that one bit. Again, the FG was maybe the worst decision in Packers history, but his offense revitalized this team and Rodgers.

This skill group led the league in separation yards per route. That's scheme, not pure talent.

I get being frustrated, but I think you're being a little hard on MLF overall. Put this game on him though.

According to everything I've read, he did. King just went rogue and got burned.
