19-year old Venezuelan Catcher Manuel Ruiz released by DSL Brewers-1.

He had originally signed in July 2019 and got his first action this year. He'd played in 6 games this year, with 4 starts at Catcher, producing a slash of .250/.438/.688 in 16 plate appearances.

Hopefully he has other exciting opportunities in life and/or baseball lined up. Good luck to Manuel.

Sal Frelick is, indeed, moving to the T-Rats per their twitter feed.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

According to Hedbert Perez’s Instagram Story, it appears he is on his way to Low A Carolina! See David Gasper’s Tweet with the screenshot.

Awesome news! Good luck to Hedbert!

Per the embedded tweet above, OF Mike Wilson was also released from Low-A Carolina.

A 16th round pick in the 2019 draft out of SUNY Stony Brook, who reportedly signed for $100,000, 23-year old LHH Mike played in 73 games over the 2019 and 2021 seasons, displaying a bit of pop (8 HRs in 282 PAs). Contact issues appear to have been his undoing (121 Ks across 2 seasons, including 39 Ks in 83 PAs this year).

Good luck to Mike in all future endeavors, baseball or otherwise.

A few more moves:

OF Tristan Peters (7th round draft pick) assigned to ACL Blue.

OF Jhonny David released from ACL Gold.

- Signed in 2018, 20-year old Jhonny had a nice start in DSL (.797 in 38 PAs) before injuries and Covid robbed him of 2.5 years. Moving stateside this year, he struggled in 40 PAs (20 Ks, .394 OPS). Best of luck to Jhonny.

RHP Wilkerman Chourio released from ACL Blue.

- Signed in 2018, debuted with just one DSL game in 2019, 20-year old Wilkerman moved stateside this year and appeared in another 9 games. He posted a 4.63 ERA and 1.80 WHIP in 11.2 innings this year, with 11 Ks, 10 walks and 2 hit batsmen. Good luck to Wilkerman.

Four pitcher promotions(!), one unfortunate release, one return from injury:

- RHP Kent Hasler transferred from Carolina to High-A Wisconsin.

- RHP Nick Belzer released by Milwaukee.

- RHP Junior Montero added to Carolina from ACL Brewers Blue.

- RHP Alexander Cornielle added to Carolina from ACL Brewers Blue.

- RHP Brailin Rodriguez added to Carolina from ACL Brewers Gold.

- LHP Brendan Murphy reinstated from injured list to Carolina.

https://www.milb.com/carolina-mudcats/news/montero-cornielle-rodriguez-added-hasler-to-wisconsin

- Undrafted, Belzer played for ACL Blue in 2019, was released in November 2020, made one start for Sioux City (independent ball), re-signed on May 30th and looked more like a promotion candidate than a release candidate for most of the year, with a 2.98 ERA through his first 9 starts. However, the numbers weakened over his last 3 starts (ending with 3.55 ERA, 1.22 WHIP in 63.1 innings), his age (now 26 years old) and a low K rate (6.4 per 9 innings) appear to have triggered a second release from Milwaukee. We hope he quickly lands on his feet. Good luck Nick!
