I would be willing to bet the city of Chicago has the least reliable mail delivery in the country.

A manager at work (we are peers) likes to answer zoom conference call questions with "Well, I have some experience in this area..."; normally after several people have already given good answers...

It would be one thing if it was once or twice, but it seems like every meeting we have, he tends to do this. Quite an insult to those who were just giving answers too. Last meeting he did this, he quite literally summarized everything the presenter said while adding nothing new... :rolleyes

We were in a meeting and introducing ourselves to a new President. I gave basic stuff about myself but my co-workers added "And GAME05 also hiked the AT." So the new president said "Oh, well have you ever hiked ___ trail (some trail in an expensive, far-off place)?" and then proceeded to talk about himself another 20 minutes. I wish I would have just said 'yes'. Two weeks later I was talking to him over a cigarette, and when his phone rang he just turned away as I was talking and gave zero 'oh excuse me' nod.

Dude had gotten rich in the dot-com craze and was every "I'm better than you" rich-guy cliche you could imagine. He later got sued by the board because the company risked everything on him building a website and it totally failed.

"And GAME05 also hiked the AT."

My son just did the AT 2 years ago. He went North to South, started in June and finished in October.

He did it alone, which we were concerned with, but it worked out.

He has great stories about the people he met and interacted with on the trail.

Chicago has always been known to have trash mail service, it’s a common complaint from Chicago area eBay sellers.

When I lived by Chicago for a few summers they lost countless things.

Has eBay every tried to pull some weight with the Post Office and threaten to pull them as a preferred shipper if they don't improve their service?

They won't get better pricing from UPS or FEDEX so the USPS knows it's just a empty threat. For all the complaints the post office gets about Chicago, the worst service I had was in Milwaukee where a package was mailed downtown and it took 7 days to get to New Berlin. Or the one that went from Oak Creek to NB to Milwaukee to Oak Creek to NB and took 3 extra days bounding around Milwaukee. Chicago is a pretty big issue as almost everything from anywhere else in the country or to anywhere else has to go through Chicago and can take a few days to get processed. The latest dodge from the USPS is that they will acknowledge they have the package, but they have not "accepted" it...

I lost my court case. I charged for dog off leash but the judge dismissed the charge because the owner never intended to let it in the park. Nevermind that the elements of the crime don't require intent. The implications are that this was a hunting dog, which means every hunter in the area (and there are a lot of them) now know that they can run their dogs through the park and I can't do anything about it.

Nobody is going to want to come hiking here if there are loose dogs all over the place.

My girlfriend's dad builds houses. She overheard him getting a price on 1/2 inch OSB sheets and they were $50.

I know for our business we cancelled one building project because of the insane prices.

That is INSANE. I paid $30 for 1/2" OSB sheets last August and I thought I was getting ripped off at the time. I also accidentally bought 5 too many which are sitting unused, might have been a better investment than the stock market!

I can already see that people's spending patterns are going to rapidly shift back to travel and social gatherings in the second half of 2021 so I bet the market will correct.

Talking with my father and others, they say that everyone they know who had planned on some type of construction/remodeling is putting it off for the time being because of the price of materials. My father was planning on tearing down his garage and building a new one but he's putting that off for a while.

Now I'm hearing that China is stockpiling rubber. Great, because between plywood and rubber the cost of replacing the flat roof here is going to be much more than the assessment, and I think that's scaring off buyers.

So my vet has a policy since Covid started of having the dog owners stay in their cars and they come out and get your dog, if you are lucky the vet may actually come out and talk to you about your pets health after they examine them. I took one of my dogs in this week and what used to be a half hour appointment tops now takes an hour and 15 minutes, it was 20 minutes after my appointment time before they even came out and got my dog and this has happened EVERY time. It was just a yearly checkup and vaccination. I am fully vaccinated for Covid and I am sure most of them are, at this point I am convinced they are going to milk this as long as they can as they prefer not to have to deal with us directly and they can take their time. It's not like they have to rush, who cares how long I have to sit in my car, right? I have a job too and my time has value. I mask up and go to the doctor and pretty much everything else in life, why do they get to leave me in my car? I would like to be there while they examine my dogs and they feel better with me around too. :angry

HELP!

I figured someone here would be better...best?...qualified to point me to a solid resource in my decades-old quest. I'm looking to buy a 1970 Brewers road uniform top.

In my opinion the powder blue re-purposed Pilots road uniforms were the coolest in team history. They had those 4 gold stripes on the sleeves and the lower case 'brewers' across the front in gold.

Davey May and Gene Brabender wore them. I've looked online, even trying to buy a game-worn Eli Rodriguez or a Ted Kubiak, and I can't find anything available.

I might even turn to having a T-shirt shop here in Chicago recreate one for me somehow.

Does anyone have any leads?

Thanks so much!

This isn't a jersey, but 47 Brand has a really cool jacket in that style and it's currently 50% off: https://www.47brand.com/products/milwaukee-brewers-cooperstown-heritage-iconic-trac

We live in a world where people have to be told not to fill plastic wal mart bags with gasoline.

It's absolutely astounding.

I can only assume the people hoarding gas right now are putting those plastic bags in their garage next to the 4 years worth of toilet paper they hoarded last year...

[sarcasm]Using a plastic shopping bag to store gasoline? That’s nuts! When hoarding, you should always double bag your gasoline.[/sarcasm]

I thought using a tote bag would be more environmentally conscious.

Closing the park last night and a girl was in the parking lot because she'd run out of gas and her grandfather was bringing her some. She said the only place in the county that had gas was selling it for $15/gal.

Why if I am only printing in black and white does it matter if I don't have any yellow or magenta ink? How do I run out of magenta and yellow if I never use it?

I'll answer that as if you were serious. You aren't printing black and white. You are printing grayscale on a white background. It isn't that easy to adjust the black on a white background to get grayscale so they use the other dyes to make the "grays" that are part of the grayscale.

I have had that happen more than once and I have usually been able to change to true black/white depending on the manufacturer (text is readable, put pictures get wonky). I believe it's Cannon that doesn't care what you change and will not print at all until you replace the empty tank (or is it Epson, or HP). They all suck.

Anyone buy one of the newer Epson printers with the "bottles" of dye instead of cartridges? Most reviews say they get huge page numbers with minimal ink drop. May need to replace my old Cannon with one of the Epsons. Also, why does my HP laserjet say to close the door for the paper tray when it's closed and I have a paper jam. Just tell me I have a paper jam. Twice got the same "wrong" error.

Our swivel kitchen faucet has gradually gotten harder to rotate between our side-by-side sinks, and tonight while trying to do so the on/off lever snapped right off. Hooray unexpected $$$ for a new faucet.

Is is possible to install a new one myself with limited home repair skill without immense difficulty, or am I better off hiring a plumber?

I usually have terrible luck with plumbing, but I have been able to swap out faucets some of the time. The two big question are do you have shut-off valves just for that faucet and can you get your wrenches back behind the sink with room to turn? Plumbers have a weird small head extended neck wrench that can just reach up behind the sink. When I've run into problems it was not being able to get behind the sink to get enough leverage due to limited space.

If he doesn't have a point of use type shut off changing out a faucet is a fairly quick job where shutting off the water for the entire house wouldn't really be a big deal either.

Watch a couple youtube videos, that is how I usually decide if I can and want to take on something myself.

My neighbor's dogs haven't stopped barking in nearly two years. At no point in the day or night will I not hear dogs barking. I can hear them right now through my window. There is also private hunting land nearby with barking dogs. Has anyone ever tried one of those ultrasonic bark boxes? Trouble is these dogs are about 75 yards away.

Yes, I've done it several times and am by no means a plumber. Getting under the sink to actually reach it is the hardest part.

With the economy opening up, I've had 3 (of 20) people resign for other jobs and I was short to begin with. I hate hiring...

Thanks everyone- I did manage to do the replacement this morning with minimal issues. The hardest part was getting the old one off, as the previous homeowner jerry-rigged an extension to the water inputs so that they'd reach the pipes (new faucet had long enough input hoses that this wasn't necessary) and the hoses were a pain to get off as a result.

No leaks thus far.... :)
