What's bugging you? 2021

Still not as bad Bella Thorne making $1mil in a day on Only Fans with a 3 pack of "normal" pictures and replying to DMs. The newly 18 year old Bhad Bhabie is apparently going to be a lil more...revealing/NSFW.

Her earnings for 6 hours is kind of incredible though. Bella Thorne's massive 24 hour earnings caused OF to put limiters in for new users on how much they can make until established. Under old rules Bhad Bhabie's earnings would have been easily north of $2mil.

Am I the only person who doesn't have a clue what this post is saying, or who the people are being referred to?

lol

This is what you want, you're much better off not wasting brain cells on it. I'm jealous. lol

To be fair I know all of that from two articles. Once when Bella Thorne went viral for making her million and then the one today about the Dr Phil girl. Then I think I read an article about how all the 'adult content' media creators all had mental breakdowns because of the limits Bella Thorne caused for them. Which something about girls crying because they could only sell a picture for $30 instead of $100 was just kind of comical.

This is funny because it reminds me of Zoolander, when it used to be a joke how someone could be "professionally good looking". And now it's more true than ever.

I'm happily ignorant of who Bella Thorne is but I am familiar enough with Bhad Bhabie to know who she is and why she's "famous". I've also heard of Only Fans but mostly as a meme, from content creators that wouldn't typically be the type to have an Only Fans making jokes about starting their own account on Only Fans.

The story on Bhad Bhaby is that she appeared on Dr. Phil a few years ago as a troubled teen and had a memorable catch phrase that became an internet meme. In response to a comment to which she took offense, she said Catch me outside, how about that? (meaning she wanted to fight after the show), but it sounded like Cash me outside how bout dat?. She leveraged her meme status into a marginally successful rap career; however, her most notable work (aside from Dr. Phil) is now probably selling adult photos on Only Fans, from which she earned over a million dollars in a few hours after she turned 18. The whole thing is odd.

Not really, I think that is a pretty good summation of current popular culture and what it means to be a celebrity today.

Just for you, Turbo:

Bella Thorne = actress

Only Fans (OF) = subscription site (w/ adult content)

‘Normal’ Pictures = not porn

DM = direct message

Bhad Bhabie = Dr. Phil show villain / teen rapper

NSFW = not suitable for work

Limiters = OF’s cap on creators’ earnings

This made my day, thanks. :laughing

I hate anything that requires me to gather quotes or shop around. Trying to find the right mix of quality, customer service, and decent price seems impossible. I contacted a company for a concrete patio install and while they get good reviews the price was in line with including gold flakes in the concrete. Then I need to replace windows and suddenly get 3 calls a day from four different people at the same company to set up an in person quote.

Why must it be so complicated?

I do think we're in an age where there are tool to help with this (Angie's list, general internet ratings, etc.), but prices are comically inflated for some things. We too are replacing windows on our house for the first time, and we quoted out two of the most known/respected windows (Andersen/Pella). The quote we got from Andersen was 2x what I expected. The quote from Pella was identical. All family members I ran it by thought they were high, but asking around my area and obtaining multiple quotes suggest it's the going rate. Which is outrageous.

I've heard horror stories from people who have used the TV replacement window/door companies, but after seeing the dollar amounts on the respected ones, I understand why people go that route in the first place.....

I’m terrified to get a quote on any home improvements these days. When I bought my home 6 years ago, I figured it would cost $10K to add a bathroom in the basement. Now I’m sure it’s $20K. Heck, my Zillow value went up 6% just in the last week. It’s crazy out there.

So accurate. I have no doubts that any homeowner would do well in selling or in tapping equity right now. But home improvements are insanity based on a couple of projects we've done over the past couple of years. Handyman stuff is still fair and reasonable, but any sort of major replacement/project is $$$$$$.

I was hoping to keep my window project under $10k (not a huge house and just a one story), but am guessing that will not be the reality. The windows would probably be fine if the previous owner had cared for them, but thus the wood crank out windows are completely garbage at this point...and I hate crank out windows.

I really didn't want to take on the window project, but thus I didn't have much leverage in the 2020 real estate market. I suppose I should be happy I was able to sucker a little money after the inspection to put towards windows when in some areas of the county $20k+ over asking was happening.

I was assuming $10k for nicer, brand-name windows (I'm replacing 9 double-hung) non-wood (our old ones are wood and I generally hate how they wore over the years). The quote was double what I assumed. Nearly identical quotes from Pella and RBA.

Aren't contractors in high demand these days which is driving up prices? I thought I read that somewhere.

Yes. Since most people couldn't travel last year and people got extra funds via stimulus, etc., the assumption is that they chose to put those funds towards home projects and such.

We are in the same boat - moved into our house in 2016 that was built in 2001, and it was obvious the previous owners didn't know how to run an air exchanger in the winter or do preventative maintenance on the wood-frame windows. We did the best we could over the past 5 years sanding down and sealing over what was left, but the damage was done. While we havent necessarily agreed with the blanket approach of printing money and throwing stimulus dollars at everyone within certain income thresholds regardless of whether COVID has significantly limited earnings, we've banked most of the stimulus for a window and 2 patio door replacement project....1st quote we got was insanely expensive, next two were pricey but more in line with what we were expecting. Not getting top of the line but having to do full replacements (not inserts). Increased costs for these type of projects are a combo of higher material costs due to demand/lack of supply and demand on licensed/bonded contractors. The surge in new construction homes/development is driving window prices steadily up due to that pent up demand - at least temporarily.

All in we are looking at $25K for the project, but we have quite a few windows and the pair of patio doors is a big chunk, too.

Materials shortages are also having an impact both due to shipping and factory disruptions as well as rapid changes in demand. I'm racing to get a window estimate because they are adding a surcharge Friday to their prices and they already are saying the windows wouldn't be available until July.

Out of curiosity and if you're willing to share, what did the patio doors run you?

Thanks for the insight.

When I looked at the house we bought the inside of the windows were insanely wet and had mold on them...it looked like a tropical rainstorm had happened inside the house. I would guess 24/7 365 days a year water was sitting at the bottom of the window soaking the wood. The first thing I did was plug in the air exchanger and changed the filter that hadn't been replaced since 2006. Good thing the other filter in the 2-pack bought in 2006 was sitting right there. Now it is nice and dry.

I don't understand how the previous owner lived like that and all they had to do was plug a cord in to let the automated system do it's thing.

Windows must be a theme. I bought my house knowing that the 20-year-old wood frame windows needed to be replaced. Finally got around to getting them done. 14 windows in 7 casements (currently crank - going to slide/double hung) came in at $25k. I kept telling the guy "no" until he came down to $16k. They weren't Pella or Anderson, but had pretty high rankings. Should be installed sometime in May.

Still have two big ones to replace (4' pane glass with a semi-circle top), but he quoted a price for them and will honor the price for 2 years.

This is accurate. We were fortunate to have done a basement remodel and kitchen remodel right before everything hit last year. We added a half bath in the basement where they had to dig up the 'crete and it ran about 6k. However, we had my wife's dad's company do it and he doesn't charge labor for us.
