What's bugging me is the fact that starting Monday, I'll be wearing a mask again for 8 hours a day when I go back to teaching. I had 11 days off for Christmas break, and not wearing a mask has been one of the highlights of the break. (except for the rare times we actually go out in public anyway)

True. At least our district is doing a virtual week before face 2 face, so I'll be alone in my room at least. :)

The major networks have national broadcasts of the countdown to the new year, and the clocks they utilize are off by as much as fifteen seconds. It's not that hard to get it right.

P.S. I am an engineer, so I'm anal.

Nice. I'm not sure why I even bother to watch the "ball" drop. This year there was no ball and we watched a digital clock count down with a Kia ad on top of it... :rolleyes

Does anyone else have a young professionals association in their area? As best I can tell, they meet once a month to network and then vote themselves awards at the end of the year to honor the best networker.

Oh gosh, yes. That is the perfect way to describe it. I went to a YP event a few years ago and it was basically everyone patting themselves on the back at how good they were at being young and having a job that wasn't manual labor. Never went back.

Tape and satellite delay or am I missing something?

I don't think it would be a satellite delay thing since ABC was fifteen seconds *fast* and FOX eighteen seconds fast.

I've been to few. I go in knowing there will be no one in my industry, so getting to know anyone will be useless in getting me a job. I just go to meet people and have intelligent conversation and see how other people make their livings.

That reminds me of most local business associations we've ever been part of. They're supposed to be about networking to improve the business climate in the area. Yet virtually everyone there is either a financial advisor or insurance salesman looking for clients.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

They're definitely around, wish I knew of the one in Madison when I was there in my 20's. Networking success can vary depending on industry, but if you've moved to a new city and don't know many people outside of work it is a good way to meet people.

I went to one my second go-around in Madison when I was not so young (at least late 30's). I do remember a couple of good looking women at it.

Checked the news this morning to learn the remaining Family Video stores are closing, ASAP. Yeah, go ahead and laugh (at me). We all knew the day would eventually come, but I was hoping later than sooner. I wasn't big on going out to the movies when I was young, so I had been making the effort the last ten months to catch up on the 70's and 80's films that I missed out on. I don't currently stream and have no desire to subscribe to a service at this time. Edited by Jimbo

You might want to check out free streaming services like Roku, Pluto, Tubi, Vudo (walmart), etc... The often have an assortment of older movies to watch (with some commercials). Hulu also has a lot of older TV series and movies. I get it free (with limited commercials) through my Sprint/T-Mobile cellphone service.

I still visited the one by us with the family. It is connected to a Marco's Pizza and would browse the aisles while waiting for the pizza. Kids videos were free so never very expensive. Certainly liked them more than Blockbuster.

Do they have Red Box where you live? They still do the kiosk thing.

Thank you for the advice. Just before Christmas, I had to go in to Spectrum and swap out receiver boxes as the old one was getting old. Putzing around the new one with the remote and it appears I have access to Netflix. I haven't done a deep dive to see if it would be a monthly fee or PPV. Really have no interest in monthly fees as we watch a movie once every month or two.

I'm surprised that Spectrum doesn't have a lot of those 70's/80's movies available to rent. Cable companies have a lot of movies available to rent, you just have to search for them. I have xFinity and just looked up The Jerk and Animal House and I can rent them for $3.99. The Kentucky Fried Movie is free through Pluto.

not being political, but mentioning something I said to my class today.

Pop Quiz...if President Trump re-signs today, Mike Pence becomes president for 2 weeks. If ever elected president, how many more terms can he serve as president?

Still two terms. The VP can serve up to two years of the outgoing president's term, and still qualify for two four-year terms ... so in essence, in a perfect-storm scenario, someone could serve nearly 10 years as U.S. President.
