Although if you offer a tip and he refuses, at least you'd get credit for offering.

I sold my old car to Carmax a few weeks ago and they listed it for $1,500 less than the price I paid two years ago...used car prices are simply insane these days. It was a 2019 vehicle that I took the mileage from 16k to 58k. The only thing I did to it was change the tires out a year ago, still had original brakes and everything else. Incredible it's value pretty much didn't change over two years of heavy usage.

If you don't mind, how much difference was it between what they listed and what they gave you for it?

$5k, gave me $20k and listed for $25k.

That being said the highest a dealer offered me was about $16.5k. When I appraised it online through Edmunds the private party value was about $22.5k. Hardly more for the hassle/risk in selling it privately so I was pretty happy.

Carmax was super easy to deal with though. They barely look over the car and they just drive it around the block for a quick test drive. No in depth mechanical inspection to uncover the original brakes with 58k miles on them for example. They just handed me a check for exactly what Edmunds appraised it for online (they must have some agreement) and I left.

It that a straight sale then and not a trade-in? Sounds like a pretty good deal. Granted, like you said, used cars are pretty hot right now. New cars have been having COVID-related supplier issues which has increased their cost and lowered supply.

Yup, just walked in and said I wanted to sell it.

My understanding is Carmax gives wholesale/auction value. Dealers seem like they want to give a price where they can sell it for huge bucks on their lot or if it won’t sell they can just send it to auction themselves while still making a good chunk of money.

I posted this in another thread but we bought a Carmax car in October 2020. In Feb of 2020, someone bought the exact same car from the exact same Carmax for $2000 less than we paid for it (then they sold it back to Carmax in September).

I don’t think I understand how Reddit works. Is it like a giant message board for every topic? I seem to have a hard time navigating the site after I’m directed there following an internet search.

So, you have reddit.com, which is what it is.

Every subreddit, like, reddit.com/r/milwaukee is it's own message board (or folder) full of messages (or files) that you only see if you are browsing that subreddit.

It's similar to this site in the sense that you won't see Off Topic messages in the Major Leagues board.

Alright, so I bought a ton of stuff online at Home Depot because I had an online coupon (trimmer, mower, grill). Now I could have just done store pickup, but I decided to be lazy and just let it all come to my front doorstep. So my first item arriving was the trimmer and umm...they sent me an extra one. An extra $200 trimmer.

Not sure I have ever gotten an accidental free gift before, usually I just get the wrong item.

I think this is a fair word of caution- it seems so easy to 'double add' something to an online cart and not notice. I'm assuming you double-checked the total prior to checking out, but if you haven't looked back, it might be a good idea!

I did not double buy, I checked for that. That was my first thought, but this, quantity of one.

We watched an online comedy show yesterday that was surprisingly good. Mike Birbiglia is always good on stage but I didn't think it would translate to zoom. We had a great time. I recommend it if you're looking for something different to do. Who knew you could tell so many jokes about pizza?

There's another show tonight and two more in mid April.

About 2 weeks ago my wife ordered a season of a show from Walmart. On its way here it stopped updating its location and they ended up sending another one. Both arrived today. :laughing

I can't believe I have been into serious boardgaming for almost a decade now. Like not Monopoly, Life or Catan.

I used to play Warhammer 40k and a WWII miniature game. Some of those games would take a few days to complete sometimes multiple weekends.

One time the group I played with we played one scenario for WWII for a whole month took pictures of the battlefield after each day. Fun times.

Some of the models that people build for that can get a bit crazy.

I learned today that nachos are named after a guy whose nickname was Nacho.

Isn’t that kind of the dream? Get some amazing food or menu item named after you?

It is like getting something on the periodic table named after you, you are a legend forever.
