Random thoughts that are pointless and too dumb to say anywhere else thread: 2021

I'm trying to remember the first time I started carrying a wallet. I know I had at least one when I was a little kid but I don't think I started actually carrying one until maybe high school? I can't see a reason I would have toted one around before that. If I went to the mall in middle school I'd just stuff some money in my pocket to get a burger at McDonald's.

It had to be at least mid 90s for me, because I used to rock a fanny pack in the early 90s as a kid. Such a shame that you can't walk around with them anymore without snickers and suppressed laughs, they were really handy. :laughing

Anybody remember when they got their first wallet? I vaguely recall a western themed one I had as a kid with some kind of rope patterned etching around the edges but I don't know if I actually used it.

Velcro wallet with this logo that I got out of a claw machine at Walmart. I win best first wallet.

Oh man. I hated that logo.

Notre Dame ripoff.

I was so happy when we dumped that logo.

Not that what we went to after was a whole lot better, but that logo just reminds me of some really bad teams.

Back when this logo was first revealed I was telling a friend at work about it and she said, "Please tell me they didn't put a "BM" in their logo," and I just had a stunned moment of silence, laughed and said, yep that's what they did! I could never not see it after that.

When the Brewers announced they were going with a new logo, I was excited because IIRC it was the same person who designed the neat Seattle, Baltimore et al logos. Then "it" came out...

I made mine. One year for Christmas I got a arts and crafts kit that had all the pieces to stitch together a wallet. It also had a stamper thing that I could use to imprint the leather. I chose the rodeo cowboy riding a bucking bronco.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

I keep on seeing these ads on social media for Old Fashioned mixes. This is the site I see the most https://proofsyrup.com/. Has anyone tried something like this? I got an old fashioned mix for Christmas a few years back from some town in Wisconsin but the person who bought it for me can't remember where they got it from. I have been searching for a good old fashioned mix but haven't found one I like.

I have a bottle of Gary's, which is fine in a pinch, but I have found that taking the time to muddle cherries, orange, sugar, and bitters is well worth it.

Yeah the one I got was perfect it wasn't overly sweet and was just about right. Reminded me of the ones I ordered in the bars back in WI. The ones out here taste like sugar water with some alcohol.

I decided I didn't like the flecks of orange and cherry in my old fashioneds, so I only add the simple syrup and then cherry, orange and pecan bitters.

I have to have a whole cherry in my mine not sure why it just has to be there.

I thought about putting this in the what’s bugging you thread.

Anyone who has had a burger like some of the ridiculous ones I’ve been seeing on tv shows and restaurant pictures online care to explain something to me? I’m talking about burgers that are too tall. Too big to possibly take a normal bite out of unless you’re a circus performer with a disjointed jaw or something. How do you eat them?

All I can figure is a) eat the top bun with half of the stuff and the bottom bun with half the stuff separately b) use a fork c) hold on with both hands tilt head sideways and take little sideways bites, never set the burger down, and end up wearing half of it. I don’t get the appeal of a sandwich so unwieldy.

My brother is getting married this weekend. The officiant is a local judge. Do you still tip the officiant in this case? Or would that be in bad taste? I’m also worried the judge cannot accept tips and the exchange would be awkward. Google says no to tipping civil employees.

Might want to ask ahead of time maybe a donation to their favorite charity instead?

I sold my old car to Carmax a few weeks ago and they listed it for $1,500 less than the price I paid two years ago...used car prices are simply insane these days. It was a 2019 vehicle that I took the mileage from 16k to 58k. The only thing I did to it was change the tires out a year ago, still had original brakes and everything else. Incredible it's value pretty much didn't change over two years of heavy usage.
