Random thoughts that are pointless and too dumb to say anywhere else thread: 2021

This is not directed at you Wallus, just society in general, but why do people go into lottery craze when we get 500M jackpots but when it's 100M it's just the regulars?

Do the people that believe the lottery is worth playing feel like 500M is life changing money but 100M is not worth their time?

I only buy them a couple times a year so I just wait til they are super high.

This is rational behavior. Under most circumstances, the expected value of a $2 lottery ticket is far less than $2. However, after a jackpot rolls over enough, the expected value of a $2 lottery ticket can become greater than $2. At this point, it becomes prudent to play the lottery.

This is why slot machines with progressive jackpots have very large and beautiful casinos and hotels built around them.

I started reading "Living on the Black" which follows Tom Glavine and Mike Mussina during the 2007 season so I did some digging into Mussina's career because I really don't remember much about him. He must be the most underrated and unheralded pitcher of all time. I remember when he got into the HOF a couple years ago thinking he wasn't deserving and only got in because he spent half his career with the Yankees. Looking at his numbers had he been with a halfway decent team early in his career instead of the Orioles he's probably a 300 game winner and would have gotten a lot more notoriety.

I've always been curious of all the analytics that go into all the food delivery services and how they determine extra pay for drivers. Obviously its tied to supply and demand but today for example I got paid quite handsomely for working in the "snow" during lunch but won't get an extra dime for actually working in the snow.

Either way I'll take it, I got to get paid well today and I don't have to work while driving on the bad roads.

How have your tips been during the pandemic? We've been tipping way more than usual for deliveries.

Surprisingly well actually. This was only supposed to be a very temp gig and several months later, I typically average 20 to 25 bucks an hour.

El Paso is closer to San Diego than it is Houston.

I always found it odd that Atlanta is farther west than Detroit yet Atlanta is considered as an "east coast" city and Detroit is considered a "midwest" one.

Atlanta is about 175 miles from the ocean and it’s state has a huge part of the coastline. 3.5 hour drive to ocean.

Detroit is about 500 miles from the ocean, it doesn’t border the ocean, any state it borders doesn’t touch the ocean, and any state bordering the states it borders doesn’t touch the ocean. Nearly 10 hours to get to ocean.

If I want Skyline chili I go to Real Chili in Milwaukee. Same thing.

These posts compelled me to read up and learn about skyline chili. It sounds and looks like something you'd regret eating once it's down the hatch, but I'd try it.

What struck me as weird was reading about how rigid the locals are about eating their pseudo-chili the "right" way. A pound of cheap cheese must be on top. Oyster crackers are the only cracker allowed. Must be eaten with a fork only and whatever you do don't twirl the spaghetti noodles on your fork unless you want a fight. Whatever. It's like the Chicago lunatics who consider it sacrilege to put ketchup onto something that is made from pureed miscellaneous scraps, guts, snouts and butts.

The only thing I miss about Chicago are the beef sandwiches and the deep dish pizzas. Gets me all Homer Simpson like when thinking of a Chicago Beef Sandwich.

You sure that's not St. Louis chili?

Last time I was there, I ate it with my shirt untucked.

Imagine if the NFL had to have pushed the season back 1 week at some point this past year. The super bowl would have been on valentines day. Women would have rioted.

I don't know about that, I know a lot of women that are as big of fans as a lot of men I know...lol
