2021 Minor League Coaching Staffs

balsamlaker
We are probably 3-4 weeks away from the announcement of the 2021 Brewers minor league coaching staffs. With the decrease in affiliates, it will be interesting to see how the staffs line up. Will Rick Sweet return to add to his impressive minor league win total (11th all time in minor league managerial wins)? If Sweet does not return, does the team simply move Guerrero, Ayrault, and Erickson up a level and name a new Mudcats manager (Joppie or Liu Rodriguez would be logical internal hires)? Both Guerrero and Sweet have been previous managers of the Nashville ballclub (as was Charlie Greene).

Two regime's have spoken highly of Erickson. The fact that he hasn't moved up in years tells me it's either blowing smoke or he's stuck at Appleton because he's local and he's a draw for the TRats.

Erickson has cherished being able to be home as much as possible with his young family, rare for the industry. Even so, he's in Arizona for nearly two months each spring, and of course, away from home for half the regular season. His kids are getting a bit older, so eventually that benefit will be less crucial, but his status is certainly not due to being "a draw" for the locals.

Or sometimes coaches are just at their best coaching players of a certain age group and experience level.

Interesting to see (it appears) many of the cuts were getting rid of developmental coaches. Otherwise Joppie (2020 WI) and a few rookie-level hitting and pitching coaches seem like the likely cuts. Nice "promotions" for Burgos and Stanley both moving from AZ to WI and Childs moving from Carolina to AA Biloxi. On the flipside, Dabney appears to have moved from AAA to low-A in a two-year period of time.

Click on and then expand the tweet here for details on an addition to the Mudcats' coaching staff.

Jordan Getzelman has been with Carolina up to this point. It's my understanding that was on an interim basis, and Getzelman will be heading to Maryvale with Theisen now on board.
