Game 16: Packers @ Bears - Sunday, January 3rd , 3:25PM CT

homer
So given that the Bears are in the playoffs (AZ losing), we would end up playing them if they can beat NO. Not much chance of that, but...

Unfortunately it's lining up for us to be playing Tampa first. The one team I want no part of.

I'm not concerned if that's who it is. This is going to be a freezing game at Lambeau, with a better Packers team. That game was just off. They opened up dominant and then just came unglued after the picks. Just a bad day. Nothing's automatic but the Packers really should win the NFC the way Rodgers is playing.

And if this year results in coming up short of a Super Bowl again, how can you say the result is unexpected? Imagine if Bill Walsh had said "Who needs Jerry Rice? We've got Montana."

You are trying to correlate an argument where MVS is the problem for the ENTIRE WR position group and thus the entire offense. Just stop, it's beyond awful.

I'm really not. Would you consider any other receiver on the team a legitimate #2 behind Adams? I certainly wouldn't.

Here's the thing, that's not in dispute. Yes I would like a better #2. That put MVS at #3 or #4 and still on the team. My original post was simply pointing out that adding better WRs is what they need to do before moving on from MVS, it doesn't stop at one or two players ahead of him on the depth chart. And they already didn't draft a WR so bringing that up over and over really doesn't address the problem in the now.

While it's great to be the #1 seed and I wouldn't want it any other way, the HFA is being overplayed. Since the Packers lost their first ever playoff game in Lambeau Field in 2002, their home playoff record is just 6-5. That's hardly a guarantee we'll be on our way to Tampa next month.

So the Bears live to see another day and get obliterated in New Orleans. Anyone know the likely day the Packers would play. Saturday vs Sunday?

Looks like Tampa is a likely opponent, but Sea/LAR is an intriguing matchup that could send the Rams to GB too.

I always thought the #1 seed played on Saturday to preserve their advantage (extra day of rest vs, the #2 seed in a hypothetical NFC championship game), but since that would benefit the Packers, I’m going to say it no longer works that way.

I thought they were playing all 3 games from each conference on the same day. Like AFC Saturday and NFC Sunday, or vice versa.

I don't agree, think you are underplaying it. Rodgers has said multiple times they need to get a NFCCG at home. Some of the games the Packers were not even favored to win despite being at home. Other times they were just not very good. This year they are the best team and have home field advantage. Their "first ever loss at home" was always a bit of a ruse seeing how they went about 30 years without playing a playoff game there.

It's not about having home field as much as it's having to go to Seattle or New Orleans. I don't know what relevance games back in 2002 have to now. Right now it's advantageous for the Packers to be at home.

I think 43 year old Brady in Green Bay in January is a far cry from letting him play in Tampa, and the Packers now don't have to travel, sleep in hotels or use someone else's facility for a month. It's a huge advantage, the players think it's a huge advantage. It doesn't win games on its own and it doesn't mean you'll go 11-0 at home.

I love Saturday playoff games but don't care quite as much since I avoid the bars during COVID. But still nice to have a sleep in morning after a playoff game. I will put in for PLT the day after the SB tomorrow, did it last year and it didn't work out but still enjoyed the SB more.

I only care about the bye.

I would say that lack of HFA cost the Packers a trip to the Super Bowl in 2014, even though they should have won anyway, I don't think it's even very close if played in GB. I don't think it would have mattered last year, but I don't think they lose by 30.

That season is especially demoralizing because they were analytically the best team in the NFL and all they had to do was beat a bad Bills team to get HFA.

Going to NOLA or SEA would be worse with fans, but I still have a strong preference to not do either one.

Defense did what it had to do today:

- held Montgomery to 3.1 ypc

- Mitchell had a QB RTG of 81.7

dink and dunk and dink and dunk is fine by me as long as you hold them to field goals which they did.

Meh ... I’m happy to have the bye, but guys get hurt in practice too. Losing Bahktiari has really bummed me out.

The bye is so huge, winning 3 in a row against good teams is a much different calculation than 4 in a row. Plenty of SB caliber teams get clipped in the first round.

Yeah, it sucks. Didn't matter today though.

Yup. Two more turnovers too. Plus a couple dropped picks & another fumble overturned by an offsides penalty.

That brings the tally to...

First 8 weeks: 4 turnovers.

Last 9 weeks: 14 turnovers.

What was the bush league move by Carroll and the Hawks at the end of that game all about?

Nobody ever knows. That's Carroll Ball for you.

The receiver David Moore was one catch away from a $100,000 bonus incentive.

Being the only team in the conference that only needs 2 wins to reach the super bowl and won't have to travel for either game is a big deal with how the nfc is structured. Getting the #1 seed is a huge deal this season!
