Bucks 2020-2021 season thread

Article I read noted the Bucks are giving up 5% more 3-point shots than last year.

I'm going to assume that shooting percentages are up in general with no fans in the stands. I would imagine that this hurts the Bucks more than other teams given their style of defense. I don't know that this is much more complicated than that.

That is back to back 130+ point games against two playoff caliber teams in the Pacers(5) and Blazers(7). Showing some life with the offense now just need to get the defense to be a little more consistent and they will start to look like how they were before the pandemic hit.

I think they're just coming together with the new pieces and ...... man, Midds is just playing some great ball. Can't say enough how much better his entire game looks this year. It's not just that he's averaging a few more assists.... he's just really playing a completely overall better game and yeah, he really looks like that solid, bonafide #2 guy.

I agree, they are starting to gel. I went in to this season telling myself not to freak out if they start out slow. I was thinking once they get to mid season they will need to start playing better ball. My hope is they will look really good down the 2nd half stretch.

Jrue has COVID, so he's probably going to miss a few games besides yesterday's.

Better now than later. Still, not good News. I've watched fewer Bucks games this year than most years, but it seemed like they were starting to gel recently. Start to play better as a unit.

Can't believe I'm sitting in an SLC Arena watching another garbage performance by the Bucks here. Don't ever leave a game early...but I just can't anymore with this squad. Just listless. Joe Ingals, of all people, just doing whatever he wants. Giannis looks like he has zero interest in defending or going at Gobert.

Giannis needs to give up on the three. He shoots 28% for his career. He also only takes wide open ones that the opponents gladly give him. The offense seems worse when he tries as no one is rebounding at these times.

Outside of Portis, our bench really sucks.

Lopez looks cooked. He's turned into a complete liability.

DDV had a nice night tonight but really hasn't emerged in the way we had hoped for. Would be a heck of a 6th man, but I'm not sure he'll ever be anything more.

All in all you still have Giannis trying to carry a supporting cast that simply isn't good enough. There's been a lot of turnover in the last 2 years. But they certainly haven't gotten better.

Yes, Jrue's been out. Bench is weak, which is great because that may force Bud not to use it in the playoffs. Portis and Forbes are the only guys off the bench who should get minutes in the playoffs. Maybe Craig for a few minutes here and there. Connaughton and Augustin should never see the floor.

Then they need one more guy, an athletic big who can eat some minutes. Preferably someone to replace Lopez, but I don't see how they could pull that off. So next best thing is any big who can play some defense, get boards, etc. off the bench. Any offense would be a plus. Not sure if that's enough to get it done this year, but not much else they can do.

I remember causing an uproar on this forum last season (pre Covid) by suggesting that Bud would be in trouble if the Bucks won 60 games last year and didn't win the East. At some point someone said they could do that for 4 years and his job was safe.

Anyone care to reevaluate things? Without a deep playoff run, Bud is toast.

I agree, it's definitely a make or break year for Budenholzer at least barring injury. He's already on strike two. Well, unless Giannis really loves him, but I get the impression that if things go poorly again Giannis will be on the warpath for some major changes and I wouldn't blame him. There's just a point you can't keep blaming the players on the court, at least not when you've already done so well in the regular season.

I remember, and I agree. Bud should have been replaced after last season. My philosophy on head coaches in pro sports is when in doubt, move on. Not wait another year, or two, or three to see what happens. Especially in the NBA. Even Skiles, Kidd...most of them were successful the first year and looked promising. But once things aren't right it can turn bad pretty quickly.
