Bucks 2020-2021 season thread

adambr2

On paper, this is a series the Bucks almost certainly should win. Atlanta could get hot from 3 and win a game or two for sure, but overall, the Bucks are a much better team. Not that Vegas lines mean anything, but they obviously weren't built with terrible lines/odds/etc. They have the Bucks at -500 to win the series and the overall favorite (Barely) to win the title at -109. Needless to say, it would be a pretty big upset to lose here, assuming everyone stays healthy. Though the same could be said about the 76ers/Hawks so....

The one thing that does scare me is that the Bucks get complacent and overlook them. The Bucks seemed to pour every once of energy into that Nets series (obviously they had to), but it's certainly possible they have a let down here, especially in game 1.

Hopefully Bud is quick to adjust as the drop coverage with Lopez will get torched by Trae Young and our tendency to overhelp on defense could leave some of their elite level shooters wide open. The Bucks really didn't play well on offense against the Nets, kinda figure they make a few more shots and the matchups should allow Forbes/Portis to play more minutes, I think that gives them a boost as well.

It's hard not to look at everything right now and think that this probably is the Bucks best shot (yes, 2019 was probably an elite chance too), but we have the talent, we were built to win right now, there's essentially no super teams left (especially if Kawhi is out long term). Makes me excited and nervous all at once.

Hopefully this Giannis guy turns out to be something. Seems like a reach at 15, but maybe he'll develop into a decent bench player. Hopefully we'll see a Larry Sanders extension soon, as he seems to have a good head on his shoulders.

[sarcasm]That reminds me, has the Tim Thomas contract come off the books yet?[/sarcasm]

Here is a detailed draft profile if it helps:

"The Greek Freak" doesn't exactly have freakish athletic ability to go along with his nickname. Compared to some ‘freaks' in the NBA, Giannis Antetokounmpo might appear relatively normal. Giannis doesn't 'explode' out of the gym with his leaps and he won't blow past anyone with his speed either.

Oof.

I remember reading the pre-draft on Steph Curry and they just whiffed bad on him too. Something like "could be a useful role player/6th man".

I wish I could find it, but I remember reading a profile on Giannis shortly after the draft that mentioned his ceiling was a Kevin Durant-type player. Either this author was spot on or they just named an NBA all-star to match every draft prospect.

To be fair, Steph Curry COULD be a useful role player/6th man. He just hasn't had the opportunity to try it yet. He's bee too busy with all those starter minutes and league-leading scoring years.
