I can’t watch this game and convince my brain Milwaukee is the team wearing blue.

Obviously too early to judge this team, but my gut feeling is they have the same issue as the past few seasons. They don’t have a true #2. I’ve always viewed Middleton as a #3 on a championship team. They haven’t added a true 1B or 2. Seems like a top 3 team in the East, but not a championship team. Hope I’m wrong.

One game is supposed to change my perception of him as a player? He did it against a Warriors team who will be lucky to make the playoffs. Can he do it for a 7 game series vs LA? He’s had games like that every year. He’s a legit all-star, he’s a #2 on 90% of NBA teams, but I don’t think the Bucks win a title with him as the number two option.

AD aside, who is a better #2 than Khris?

Paul George would almost be unanimously considered better than Middleton. After that it's more subjective. Kyrie. Simmons. Jamal Murray. Bam.

I mean these last few are arguable but there are quite a few guys you could subjectively say are better than Khris.

How much is Khris being undervalued just because he's a 'does everything well' player and not a 'does two things exceptionally' player? There's a value to not having to plan around one player's deficiencies. And I don't get the impression that Milwaukee runs many plays through Khris, but instead he plays that "bails us out" role by hitting all those contested shots at the end of the clock. His box scores would look better if he were a bigger focus, but that wouldn't really make him a more valuable player, only a guy who scores more.

I don't think it's undervalued Khris to say he's not as good as Paul George or Bam Adebayo. He's good. There are just better #2s, I think.

Yea, I like Khris, and wasn’t ripping him. He’s a legit all-star, he’s not a super star. The NBA and super teams have morphed into needing two super stars to win a title. I don’t think the Bucks are good enough to win a title as constructed. I also don’t know if it was ever feasible to add another super star, probably not. It is what it is, I hope it’s enough, but I just don’t see it.

That's the thing, though. "Superstar" is a subjective label & the only team that objectively has two is the Lakers.

Sure, PG, Bam & Kyrie might be slightly better than Khris, but their impact is much closer to Middleton's than it is to AD's.

Last year Davis finished 4th in All NBA voting. Middleton, Bam & PG finished 14th, 18th & 19th.

Developing team or not, any game like this against the Knicks is embarrassing.

If a team shoots 60% from 3 while you shoot 15% from 3, you're going to lose no matter what.

Sounds pretty much like the inverse of the Warrior/Bucks game on Christmas Day. Did anyone watch the game? Were we giving up wide-open threes or were the Knicks just hot?

Bucks were 6/25 on wide-open threes. Knicks were 7/11

Bucks were 1/12 on open threes. Knicks were 8/13

Yeah isn't Wood on his 6th team in 5 years? I have no idea how his defense is but he is a black hole on offense - if he gets the ball it's going up.

Rockets are paying him 41/3. So he better be decent. Bucks really don't have the cap room to pay him that. This seems like a non issue. He had a few bright spots while here but it was mostly in preseason and garbage time. I grant you he has improved, but as others said there is a reason he has bounced around so much

So, our defense was at least closer to the Knicks (fewer wide-open attempts than not, and far fewer wide open than we had), but the Knicks were just unconscious shooting it.
