Brewers claim Tim Lopes

Let's get this out of the way:

"Our savior! Sign me up for a ticket package now."

"Throw some more $&@* at the wall, Stearns! Gadang, this team is cheap."

"Churn at the bottom of the roster is reasonable, and to be expected if you've paid attention in the Stearns era."

"Controllable young talent. Positional versatility. Still young. Post-hype prospect. Yadda yadda."

"Some of you guys act like every schmo we bring in is going to be the next Jesus (Aguilar)."

"Nobody's saying he's going to be earth-shattering. But it's nice to look at the bright side."

"Yes yes, we are starving for something to talk about, friends."

All of this has happened before, and will happen again. :)

Immense positional versatility, but his ~.675-.700 OPS thus far (in a modestly small sample) would be a plus in the IF and bad in the OF.

so then, we can be assured that most of his time will be spent in the OF, right?

Batting cleanup, at DH, in Game 7 of the 2021 NLCS...Tim Lopes.

The Brewers are gonna trade him?

I think he'll have to improve to be the next Hernan Perez. He had a fielding percentage of under .900 as a 3rd basemen in the minors. He wasn't very good at SS either. His natural position is 2B. Not as much power as Hernan either, though he'll take a walk now and then. Good news is his strikeout rate is fairly low and he had a bit of a power surge in AAA in 2019. Seems we already have a similar type player in Mathias, who certainly didn't seem overmatched in his limited action.

Versatile guys like this are nice to have on the roster to be able to back up multiple positions. You just hope that they end up with around 200 PAs, and aren't the guy you have to rely on if a long-term injury occurs.

Ideally, they're what allows you to keep your better prospects in AAA until they're ready to start instead of sitting in a backup role on the MLB bench. Unfortunately, our position player depth is pretty thin in the upper minors, so an injury would force us to use guys like Lopes/Peterson/Mathias full-time until the regular is healthy.

"The most successful (people) know that performance over the long haul is what counts. If you can seize the day, great. But never forget that there are days yet to come."

I don't love this move but I don't hate it. Roster bubble guy, it seems. Career .252 BA looks fantastic with what we witnessed from most Brewers' bats in 2020, though his walk rate in 2020 was putrid.

If nothing else, this seems like a better pickup at first blush than Ronny Rodgriguez did at any point last year. If he plays in MIL this year, it shouldn't be disastrous. And if he never plays in the majors, either he totally bombed or the rest of our roster is performing well enough to keep him down in AAA.

It's going to be very confusing having Thomas Dillard and Tim Lopes playing in our system.

In 2019, Dillon Thomas was one of Biloxi's better hitters. I think he's gone though.
