Free Agent Signing Thread (Non-Brewers)

Eye Black
I simply cannot believe Bauer will be getting a contract at $30 million per year given his track record. Am I taking crazy pills?

Could just be his agent planting a false story and he's going to end up signing very late (or not at all) at a much lower deal.

I'm with you about Bauer. There have been some crazy moves lately, but I think you are spot on what you think about his agent planting crap to drive up the price. Tomorrow you and I will probably be dead wrong and somebody will sign him 4/$125. Thankfully it won't be the Brewers.

Since 2018, Bauer is 6th in IP (433), 10th in K%+ (133), 12th in HR9+ (74), 10th in ERA- (69) & 12th in FIP- (76).

Add it all up & he is 7th in runs allowed based WAR (12.6) & 6th in FIP based WAR (11.6) the last three seasons. Scherzer, Verlander, deGrom & Cole are the only pitchers over that time that beat him in both varieties.

ZiPS projects him as the 6th best starter for 2021 at 4.4 WAR with the only the three active guys above plus Bieber & Giolito projected higher.

No way he comes close to Cole's 9/324, but I'd guess he ends up picking between like a 7/225 deal if he wants the long term security or like a 3/120 deal if he wants to set the AAV record.

Certainly wouldn't argue that he is very good, arguably an ace (though only arguably), but those stats include just two full seasons, one of which happens to be Bauer's only elite season. He's topped 3.3 fWAR just once in his career, and he's the wrong side of 30. He's basically had 1.5 seasons (2018 and 2020) in which he was anything more than a #2/#3. Plus, he seems like a nightmare to coach.

I guess he is benefiting from the lack of competition in the market this offseason.

I thought Bauer was only doing 1-year deals?

Opt outs gives him the 1 year option if he wants it.

Trevor Bauer decision is expected soon. As said yesterday, Mets are in at about $100M for 3 years with at least an opt-out after year 1.

@Joelsherman1

says it’s $100-110M with opt-outs after year 1 and 2 with deadline set. Dodgers are the competition.

That Moose deal was bad from the onset with Suarez in Cincinnati. Gotta think they would move that contract if they could. Moose for Garcia?

I think if the Brewers had any interest in giving Moose that kind of contract, they would have just given him that kind of contract. You are right, it is a bad contract. I know the Brewers have a hole at 3B, but unless the Reds are going to pay off a bunch of Moose's deal in a trade, I'm not interested.

The Mets may have finished second place in the Trevor Bauer sweepstakes, but they didn’t leave the weekend completely empty handed. The Mets have signed free agent center fielder Albert Almora Jr.
Not just “at Night” anymore.

Jed Lowrie signed a minor league free agent deal with the A's today.

Lowrie finishes his time with the Mets getting paid $20 million for just 8 total plate appearances (he went 0-7 with a walk).

If it was me I would probably just retire a champion.
