I can't say I am super sad the Brewers didn't sink a 2-year deal into a 35 year old 1B/DH coming off a poor year. Though having a guy who walks more than striking out would have been cool.

Bring back Jedd then and pair him with Vogelbach. Honestly since the brewers are (rightly) not going to sign a bigtime 1st basemen, they are going to have to piece it together until they can develop their own.

 

I was looking at FA 1st basemen the other day and Cron was the one that caught my eye too.

If Santana gets an AAV of 8.5 million dollars, the Brewers probably aren't going to get a free agent first basemen for less than 5(Cron would be taking a cut from 6 million down to 5). Which of course, also then makes the decision to decline the team option on Gyorko foolish in hindsight.

 

Moreover, given Gyorko was their best hitter statistically in 2020, I'm not so sure he would have any interest in coming back to the Brewers with a paycut, unless he has no other guaranteed offers.
