Supak = Gone

TURBO

Athletics signed RHP Trey Supak to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Supak, 24, put up some pretty good numbers in the minors with the Brewers, but they removed him from their 40-man roster in September. He'll look for a fresh start in Oakland.

Supak = Gone

not necessarily.

the 2014 rule 4 draft pick still could be on the 2021 brewers 26-man roster all year as a rule 6 player if he's selected by the club in the 2020 rule 5 draft.

The A's signed him...

But he's Rule 5 eligible, so if the Brewers wanted him back, they could select him. Something tells me they are also ready to move on, though.

it's highly unlikely that trey supak will become a rule 6 player in 2021. earlier this year, any club could have claimed him when the brewers placed him on outright waivers, immediately optioned him to the minor leagues, and would have had the flexibility to option him again in 2021.

as we all know, rule 6 players cannot be optioned in the season immediately following the rule 5 draft.

but, supak does remain eligible for the rule 5 draft.

remember brewers pitcher victor santos? in 2005, the brewers outrighted him to the minor leagues. no other team claimed him, and he elected free agency. he signed with the royals in november to a minor league deal, and the following month, the pirates snatched him away from the royals via the rule 5 draft. he spent the entire 2006 season with the pirates as a rule 6 player.
