Pelicans Jrue Holiday to Bucks - Three 1st Rounders + Hill + Bledsoe

lcbj68c

Re: Holiday

He hit 36% of his catch and shoot threes. Compare that to Bledsoe who hit 26.4%

plus he is one of the better defenders as a point guard.

I was kinda resigned to the fact that we'd lose that elite defensive PG when we traded Bled...but to get back a defender on the same level as him...that's huge.

Bled didn't play well in the post-season, but it was never a lack of effort. Not in Milwaukee in the regular season or the post-season. In fact, I think he probably tried too hard and put too much pressure on himself.

But I loved the intensity he played with and how he fought through screens and was just relentless as an on-ball defender.

Too bad it didn't work out...I thought back when he was backing up Chris Paul that he was going to end up being a superstar. It just hasn't materialized. Maybe down in Nola, he'll be able to take his game up a notch.

Do the Bucks have a first round pick tomorrow, or was that one of the picks that was traded?

It was traded...at least I'm nearly positive it was. I don't know that they could trade 3 picks without one of them being the 24th this year.

Apparently, the Celtics offered Gordon Hayward and three firsts for Holiday.

If this was 3-years ago that is an overpay but with Hayward's recent injuries he is not worth all that much. Depending on the three first round picks from the Celtics the Pelicans accepted the superior offer though Hayward has a higher ceiling than Bledsoe I just don't believe he can stay healthy to provide any value to the Pelicans.

Here are the picks the pelicans get.

2020 first-rounder (No. 24)

2024 first-round swap rights

2025 first-rounder (unprotected)

2026 first-round swap rights

2027 first-rounder (unprotected)

IF Giannis does sign his 4 year extension I wouldn't be too worried about 24&25; 26-27 could be rough....

What 1st round picks do the Bucks still own from now until '27?

I thought they'd traded their 1st next year, but another poster said they hadn't(I thought it was part of the George Hill trade).

Then they should retain their '22 first and '23 first....as of now, right?

Believe 2022 is going to Cleveland which leaves us with our 2021 & 2023 first rounders (no swap), plus the 2024 & 2026 firsts (with swap potential).

2022 pick goes to Cleveland. It was originally Top 10 protected, but Cleveland removed the protections (in exchange for a future 2nd round pick), ensuring it will be transferred in 2022.

So it looks like we have 2021 1st rounder, and 2023 1st rounder. You can't trade 1st rounders in back-to-back years (unless you have acquired a second one).

I think I am correct on all of this.

Bring back Connaughton and Korver, draft Cassius Winston at 42, and a big at 60, and let’s go!! I also expect a couple veterans to sign for the minimum to fill out the rest of the roster with quality options.

I still think people are sleeping on Cam Reynolds, the 6'8 2 Guard who had a very impressive rookie season(though a short one) with Minnesota as a rookie in 2018-19.

I remember Minnesota fans being very upset when they let him walk. Now with the Bucks diminished depth, he could be a guy who sees a much bigger role.

Could really flourish in a 3 and D role. Shot 42 pct from 3 in a small sample size for the T-Wolves.

I knew you couldn't trade picks in back to back drafts because of the idiot who owned the Cavs back in the 80's, but with the draft swaps and being under the impression our '21 first went to Cleveland, I was assuming the picks we'd parted were all picks in the immediate future or had swapped them. And if we did in fact have the '21 pick, I know you can trade that after the previous years draft, so perhaps they were waiting to make the trade official until after the draft so they could include next years first.

So the end of the day, we made two MASSIVE upgrades to our roster, we add two second-round picks this year, next year we've got our own 1st and we'll be able to take advantage of the MLE and the Bi-annual.

I'll be very surprised if Giannis doesn't sign a 5-year extension...which would take us through 2027 and that unprotected pick.

So we're not exactly flush with assets, but we do still have ways to improve the team in the near future.

A VERY exciting day to be a Bucks fan!

GREAT job by Horst. Recognized we needed to really change direction and managed to get TWO of the players that were on many fans "wish list," while leaving us some opportunity to add young talent the next couple of years.

We really only need 8 good players for the playoffs. So between the draft, free agency, and buyouts, we need to find 3 players.

This is correct. The benches get shorter in the playoffs. And as people have noted, you don't have to fill all 15 of your roster slots.

Has anyone let Bud know this?

When he looks down his bench and only sees 3 guys sitting there, he'll get a clue. ;)

Ideas for our bench.... we should be able to get most of these guys cheap. Most are old Milwaukee retreads...

PG

Matthew Dellavadova

Frank Mason

SG

Wes Matthews

Pat Connaughton

SF

Demarre Carroll

PF

Christian Wood....why did we ever let him go

John Hanson

Jared Dudley

C

Aron Baynes

Robin Lopez

Thon Maker

Mason seems to be a real good bet. I think bringing in another good guard is important. Preferably a PG or a combo guard who can play the point, but I don't want Mason to be our 2nd option.

Connaughton-Really thinks he comes back as well. Just doubt there'll be a big market for him. He's not a great shooter or scorer, but a really nice defender and glue guy.

The only guy I'm reasonably sure we won't be able to sign is Wood. I think he'll get 10 million or so. IF we were able to spend our full MLE this year, he'd be a candidate, but I guess we can't.

The Bucks now have a Championship contender(a stronger one than the past two years)...but they've also got a short enough bench that guys can come here and really contribute to winning a chip. Dwight Howard signed a Vet Minimum last year and he was a really nice addition to the Lakers. I just hope after being locked in the Bubble last year Giannis maybe softened his stance a bit on fraternizing with "the enemy" and maybe he'll be able to sell some guys on coming to Milwaukee.

Absolutely love this deal if Giannis and Holiday both sign extensions. I imagine that the Bucks are confident in not only Giannis signing a new deal, but Holiday willing to stick around beyond 2021.

The odds of one of them both staying past next year? Less than 10 percent in my mind.

Even if Giannis stays, we are giving an ok 31 year old point big money?

Of course we are. Do you really think we gave up Bled, Hill 3 future 1sts, AND two swaps for one of the best PG's in the NBA just so we could let him walk after this year?

I'd put the chances we offer both of them max or near max contracts at about 99 pct.

What would the other option be? Let him leave after you spend a quarter of a billion dollars on Giannis and then try to replace one of the best two-way guards for a couple of million next off-season?
