Pelicans Jrue Holiday to Bucks - Three 1st Rounders + Hill + Bledsoe

lcbj68c

Probably deserves it's own thread.

Jrue Holiday to the Bucks per ESPN's Woj

Jrue Holiday for Bledsoe/Hill/3 1st Rounders

Initial thoughts are it probably is enough to convince Giannis that they are committed to getting the pieces around him.

Curious to hear which 1st rounders got traded away...

Lack of future trade assets & way to bring in young talent can be problematic. While it might attract Giannis today, what does it do to keep him happy 3 - 4 - 5 yrs from now..

Is Jrue better than Bledso straight up?

If Giannis doesn't sign after2021, are we lacking draft picks when we are really, really bad?

Jrue is 30 and on a one year deal, correct? Um, yeah. Why is this good? That Gary Payton trade is looking better.

Draft picks after the lottery are all pretty much the same and if Giannis stays all their 1st round picks will be in the 20s.

Yes, Jrue is better than Bledsoe straight up. Especially in the postseason, .545 TS% & 12.2 TO% for Holiday vs .494 TS% & 14.8 TO% for Eric with the Bucks.

This deal seems to indicate the front office is probably fairly confident Giannis will sign the supermax.

Now there's a tumor they are going after Bogdanovic

The ONLY way I do this deal is if I am 100% sure Gianni's signs here.

I just don't know how this makes the Bucks look better to Giannis..... maybe for 2020-2021.

Jrue is getting old too.... on a one year deal?

This better not be a last ditch desperate attempt to win a championship this year. The Bucks already cornered themselves by saying they are not trading their star. Is it possible that Giannis told them recently that he wants out after this year? I guess this would make sense only if the boatload of Picks weren't attached. With the picks, it would be beyond crazy.

Sure, it's possible.

It's also possible Giannis told the Bucks he'd be much more willing to sign an extension if Bledsoe was off the team, so Horst & company facilitated that request.

I like this trade, though the firsts might hurt.

Man...this has me a bit torn.

You've really handcuffed yourself from improving your team in the future...Holiday and Giannis are both FA's, you've given up most of your 1st round picks for the foreseeable future, DiVincenzo is a REALLY nice young glue player to me.

But you add another All-Star caliber player, one who can defend, get to the rim and shoot it, you add a SG who can get his own shot.

Screw it, this is just exciting. If we lose Giannis, this team was going to likely be miserable anyway. So you add two guys who are clear upgrades and you STILL have the MLE to go out and maybe get a Jordan Clarkson type player?

And I'd assume the Bucks will be looking to buy a couple of 2nd round picks. This might be the best year to do that with some guys who might end up going later than expected due to the cancelation of the College season?

So the Bogdanovic deal is officially Bogdan and Justin James for divincenzo, ilyasova, and Wilson. I'm fine with the last 2 going, but I really liked divincenzo and was hoping we could find a way to keep him.

The only part of it I'm meh on is giving up DDV but let's be honest, nothing else they gave up was anything, other than the draft picks, which I really don't care much about in the NBA and they weren't going to be high picks anyway. Giannis is going to sign.

The key thing to me is they got a better offensive player without sacrificing Bledsoe's defense. This is exactly what we've been clamoring for so I don't how anybody isn't excited about it.

"If Giannis doesn't sign..."

If Giannis doesn't sign nothing will matter because the Bucks will be complete garbage regardless of these trades. If he doesn't sign one should still be thrilled regardless because they get one more year of being the championship favorite before years and years of terrible teams. Sure, it would hurt their rebuilding effort, but you might as well sacrifice a few extra years of rebuilding for a chance at the 'ship.

This is all true...the only thing I don't love is we're DEFINITELY backed into a corner now. Even if you get Giannis and Holliday to re-sign, it would appear you've given up pretty much any chance to develop your own talent in the near future.

So that and losing DD kinda sucks...but to be able to put a PG on the court that's not a liability in the playoffs is worth it. If Giannis was already signed, not sure you'd have given up quite so much for Jrue, but...Griffin knew he had some leverage.

It's a lot to give up to get basically an older version of Bledsoe who doesn't suck in the playoffs...but I'm pretty excited. I'm also pretty confident we can use the MLE to get another nice piece.

Also, Cam Renyolds was a guy I thought had a chance to contribute last year. Now with the depth severely diminished with us being a far more top-heavy team, I'd think he'd get a shot.

Probably not looking at the same type of regular season out of this team, but the post-season should be a lot less frustrating. Hopefully Bled figures it out for the Pelicans.

Jrue Holiday is 7 months younger than Bledsoe.

Looked up Bogdan, surprised he's only 37% 3FG%. I realize that's very good, but not elite like I thought.

1st round picks don't matter much. Giannis is going to sign no matter what. The only question was/is whether he demands a trade after another year or two. Then you get that boatload of 1st round picks back again.

Biggest need at this point is a tough, athletic big man.

None of this changes two main reasons they wee bounced from playoffs the past two years. Giannis and Bud need to be better in the playoffs, or it doesn't matter how they shuffle the rest of the chairs.

Don't be concerned Jrue only has one year left, that's a good thing. That opens up $27MM in cap space after this season.
