Wisconsin Basketball Thread 2020 - 21

Man this has been tough the last few weeks. I don't know what's going on. I keep hoping they will get it together for the tournament but they are running out of time. I do think the tournament will be different for them, getting out of the Big Ten, but man, this stretch is not good. Has anyone had the thought that Reuvers has been checked out this year? I loved him the last couple years, but he just doesn't seem like himself. I know the last year has been crazy and some are thriving and some are struggling with the dynamics. I'm not blaming him, just curious if others feel like he's off, too.

3rd team all Big10 last year. He was pre-season All Big10 this year.

He just can't make shots anywhere.

Big 10 season:

13% from 3. 1.7 FTA per game.

Last year: 36.5% from 3. 3.1 FTA per game.

I don't know if an ex badger is sleeping with bo borowski's wife but he had absolutely screwed over the badgers at every chance this year.

Probably Tanner Bronson

Worst officiated game of the year i have watched..... Brutal.

I don't get how they can review the foul on the 3, stay with it, go back to the foul on Davidson, and rule that was a flagrant.

Davidson hooked...so fine, correct that. Then correct the non-call that you JUST reviewed.

The review on the hooking play is so dumb.

I've become less of a CBB fan. Is that a flagrant like an incidental shot to the face is a flagrant in the NBA?

If so, I can at least understand why they called that. I can't understand the foul on the 3 or not giving UW the ball after reviewing the out-of-bounds play...but without being a big fan, I'm having trouble understanding why that is 2 shots and the ball.

If a guy hooks then call it on the floor, it's dumb to go to a review.

Badgers are 14-2 when Bo Borowski doesn't officiate their games. They are 2-9 when he does.

Something doesn't add up there.

I was just going to post this after seeing it on Twitter. Is it possible the Badgers are actually a top 5 team and [sarcasm]win their 2nd straight NCAA Tourney this year?[/sarcasm]

Half sarcasm because I don't know how good they actually are.

I've watched less CBB this year than any other year...but those were the worst calls I've seen at the end of a game in a long time. And they all went in ONE direction.

I guess there was the play where they called a tie ball and the Badgers had the arrow, but even in that play, a Badger got caught with an elbow to the face...much closer to a flagrant than the one they called.

Right, but what I'm saying is in the NBA, they review even benign shots to the head or neck area, even if there is no intent, and call it a flagrant 1. I'm asking if that's the rule in CBB with regard to hooking. If they see it, they have to call it on review.

It seems ridiculous either way, but if the rules say any hook and pull is a 1, I can at least understand that stupidity. If that's a judgement call by the refs, it's that much worse.

Also saw something like...the 11 games hes reffed they have 47 more fouls called than their opponent. Now, that could be because they are down, etc, etc. In the other 16 other games they have 43 less fouls than their opponents.

I would be interested in a breakdown of which games he did. The opponent they played obviously matters with that scenario.

Yeah I think I'd need some more data. Particularly, I'd like to see # fouls called in non-Badger games.

I do think part of it is that he has refed a lot of the Badgers games when they are playing the other top teams in the conference, so I am sure that is part of it. The eye test with those numbers is what gets my head turning. With that being said, I do not really know a lot about what is a 'foul' considering I really only watch the local teams and I am a hockey guy.

It was a good example of how excessive CBB games can get at the end with the constant need to be 'perfect' officiating. A dozen reviews later no one wants to watch it no matter what team they cheer for. Unfortunately in way too many CBB games it always feel like one teams has to overcome the refs to win. Some days you have the advantage and some days you feel like they are getting paid.

Unfortunately when the calls weren't falling their way they Badgers just decided to shoot themselves in the foot. Ford has to get a freakin' rebound, that really put them in a bad place. Ford taking that game-tying three chance also seemed a bit strange. Just seems someone else should be taking a three opportunity over him in that situation. They also had plenty of time to go for a two point basket over that. Refs sucked at the end, but so did the Badgers in all honesty.

I thought the Badgers were going to be a really solid team and live off the experience on the roster. Unfortunately they have been a massive disappointment. Ford, Reuvers, and Davison...jeez. Davison looks like he is set average less points per game every single season of his career. Not blaming coaching, but it is kind of amazing how many of the players never really took big steps forward throughout their careers.

I've said it before. A college basketball game ain't over till you get multiple camera shots of referee asses as they huddle over a monitor. It's awful. I saw posted somewhere, and didn't verify, that the last 45 seconds of the game took 18 minutes. Add in that there are too many timeouts available. Regulation basketball games should not take 2:20 to play.

I think it just shows how 'average' a lot of those guys are. I've piled on the guy, but Reuvers looks lost this year.

Agree with this. I think just put a time limit on it. If you can't tell after 1 minute, call on floor. And hook and hold reviews are always atrocious.

Yah, its definitely a group of very average players, but usually you'd expect a few to overachieve their skillset because of the experience advantage they have. This group is pretty much a bunch of average guys that seemingly learned the college game fast, but just never built upon that.

My wife was talking about all the players that will/could leave after the year and I was like yah...but it isn't like they are really doing anything meaningful anyway. Maybe next years team is worse, but it seems like they players with higher ceilings are young on this team. I wouldn't be surprised if next years team is better if those guys take steps forward. Not that the current team is terrible, but it feels like it could use a big refresh on the court.

Maybe the tune would be different if they pulled off a couple of these big wins they were close too, but that's basketball. In today's CBB where the competition is much more even good teams find a way to win and find a way to win games they didn't really play well in. That is usually what sets teams apart.
