Guessing it is being changed because the best team in the Big Ten is ineligible to play and that makes zero sense. It was a unanimous decision. If Wisconsin was undefeated in conference play and primed to be in the playoff they would have made this change for them too. Unfortunately Wisconsin was nowhere near a good enough team to make that an option for them.

Right...you'd have a hard time finding someone who genuinely disagreed with this I think.

It's not like they broke a 100-year-old rule in order to get OSU in the title game. They're making this up as they go and Ohio State playing in the playoffs is good for the B10.

Yeah, while I dislike Ohio st and like to see them suffer, I'm certain if any other team was primed to make the playoffs the bug ten would have bent over backwards for them as well.

The reason the Big Ten is in this situation is because of Ohio State and a few other schools crying about the Big Ten not starting the season in the fall. The optics of this is just that Ohio State is basically the screaming toddler and the Big Ten giving in to the screaming toddler and giving them anything and everything they want. If Ohio State wouldn't have made a big stink of starting the season in the spring the Big Ten wouldn't have started the season in the fall.

Does 1 member out of 14 have that kind of influence on a league?

C’mom, they wanted the money. They pretended that they were above such influences only to realize they simply couldn’t forgo that type of revenue. It’s a bad look. At least the other leagues (aside from the Pac-12) were like Yeah, we’re just going to take the money.

Nebraska, Ohio State and one or two more were pushing for this and yes Ohio State does have that much influence in the Big Ten. If Ohio State leaves that is the biggest program in the Big Ten along with the highest revenue making team in the conference if Ohio State decided to leave the Big Ten every conference would be begging them to join and probably throwing gobs of money at them to join.

Ohio State basically owns the Big Ten because there isn't another perennial top 5 football team in the conference and they are the biggest revenue makers for the Big Ten. Ohio State is basically the Yankees and everyone else are either the Mets, Rays, some AAA team or a AA team.

Looks like I will be movie watching the night of the Big 10 Championship Game. I was looking forward to an Indiana/Northwestern Championship Game with just as much anticipation as a Badger game, but have zero interest in watching a Northwestern/Ohio State game.

Would probably be over in the first quarter anyway. Probably close to the 55-0 drubbing we got that one year.

Lovie Smith out at Illinois. Zero development with that program in his five seasons, so completely unsurprising.

Does he want to be the Packers’ defensive coordinator? ;)

I don't want anyone whose main goal is to beat the Packers. We've already had enough of that from Pettine and Capers.

Some goober national college football guy suggested Jim Leonard. Yeah, sure...he's gonna leave his alma mater for another team in the B1G.

Yeah, regardless of how you feel about the merits of what the BigTen did yesterday, I think it’s apparent that they swapped a potentially interesting game that may have been close for one that a lot will turn off quickly.

I'm sure everyone is saying "Mission Accomplished" behind the scenes.

Lots of speculation with Leonard when he had interviewed for the Florida State defensive coordinator job. Word around Madison is that Leonard would be unlikely to leave Madison for any other defensive coordinator job unless crazy money became involved (like LSU), but on the flip side Leonard wants to be a head coach and would be likely to leave Wisconsin for almost any Division 1 head coaching job. If that Illinois job came calling and no better head coaching jobs were offered, I think there is a really strong possibility he would take that job.

Arkansas is a tough place to win, but old big mouth showed that he didn't have what it takes when The Emperor was out of the picture. I'd love to see him go to Illinois and watch him get trucked by Bucky every year.

The one guy that I don't want to see go to Illinois is Lance Leipold.

This would be a good year to let an undefeated Group of 5 team like Cincinnati into the CFP. 9-0 is more impressive than 5-0 or 6-0 teams from major conferences.

Better yet, this would have been a good year to increase the amount of teams.

Let Cincinnati play Alabama and see if it's a blowout. If so, no big deal. If not, they could possible use that as a reason to expand the playoffs. The big knock against expanding it is that teams 5-8 are usually not nearly as good as 1-4 and would be blowouts anyway. Well, lets see. In a weird year with everything I think this would have been a great year to do that.

I think the obvious hire for Illinois would be Bret Bielema. At least it would give this crappy season a real silver lining.

Good call.

My understanding is that Illinois is the only other school in the Big Ten besides Wisconsin that doesn't make exceptions for NCAA minimum qualifiers, so he should be used to the recruiting requirements to get kids admitted.
